  • Skyy was an ok group. I remember Call Me & Here's To You from my jr. high days but totally forgot about Start Of A Romance and late 80's songs.

  • this song bring back so many childhood memories. i was so young like 11 or 12.

  • where did all our good r&b bands go? And no BET 106&Park is not r&b nusic!

  • Hot Hot Hot...even today...too funky!

  • ZRight now i;m getting chills just hearing this song,so fly, dope.Just a little slang from back in the day

  • Triangle earrings, early Whitney Houston hairdos, a healthy mix of flat tops and Jeri curls, and sick synth-jams.

    Ahhh, the early 80's

  • yo this the joint

  • happy 22nd anniversary to Start of a Romance. I was in 10th grade and so in love with this song.

  • This will rock any party! anytime! anywhere!

  • Back around '79/80 my cousin & I snuck out to the "Enterprise" in NYC/42 Street. We were about 16/17. They were performing live. It was the best night of my life. They gave a great show!

  • This beat is still bananas...

  • @bishstick1 oh fuckin kay! i put on mp3 player and pretend im the lead singer tearing this song up!!!

  • Hey ladies. You don't know me but we were separated by a few degrees. My name is Kassim. I was managed by your road managers brother D. Saunderson. I mixed my tracks with Tommy in his studio in Brooklyn and Sol did my photo shoot. I never got the chance to meet you all but it would have been kool. I just passed by to feel this vibe. Stay lovely and keep up the funk.

  • hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i never thought id say it, but im turning into my father.music choice of this generation has no substance."start of romance" is so much better than singing about shooting from moving cars.lol

  • Man, the Stunning Dunning sisters. Skyy was my favorite group all through high school. I used to have Skyyport on wax, until my daughter took a pencil to it. I would play that record over and over. Thanks for thel memories ladies. I wish they had more videos of the group.

  • I think this was the best coming up in my time

  • This was my jam in the spring of 8th grade!!! And I resurrected it in 2009 cuz I was missing it! LOVE IT!

  • Denise has such an awesome aggressive vocal style, she just grabs you and makes you listen to hear great voice without even trying. Plus Big Ups to the members of SKYY from another Brooklynite. East New York, Bushwick Ave.

  • DAMMMMM , IMISS THE 80'S....WOULD GIVE MY LEFT NUT TO LIVE THEM AGAIN!!!!!

  • Wow, it takes me back to those late 80's!! I was fresh outta high school!!

  • Damn this jam hit HARD when it came out. My cassette single got warm every time I played it. Thanks for posting! :)

  • 1989, baby!!!!!

  • man i had such a crush on her and really pictured her singing "real love" to me. man i wanted her autograph if you know what i mean.

  • sounds funky!!

  • love them last night.. voices are out of this world

  • I am 30yrs old and remember Skyy & this song as a mainstay at my family's cookouts! I love this song and this band! Had the biggest crush on those ladies & I'm still looking for them, lol. Please make another album!

  • this is REAL music. today's R & B groups can't hold a candle to skyy. this song sounds just as good as it did when i first heard it. thanks for posting this!

  • memories man it brings back so many

  • these artists from the 80's was the truth now we got these fake industry singers...

  • theyre still bad!

  • HIt #1 soul in Billboard. Didn't make the Hot 100. God bless!

  • woooooooo brings back memories, middle school!! lol

  • Love this song and video... NO MORE AUTOTUNES!

  • @tsion69 (I agree about the autotune stuff. Mary J used it, Angie Stone used it and I bought Karen Clark Sheards new cd. There is a great duet with she and her sister Dorinda, and they are both using autotunes. The song would have been so much heartfelt with those two using their aswesome gift (voice) that God gave them.

  • Aaahhhhh shit! This was the jaaam too! Skyy was the BOMB! KISS FM, Bronx, NY, stand up!

  • WOW this is still the baddest beat and dance groove ever. I fell in love with her voice. I have all of their music going back. This track was so hot. This was the song during the club days that I asked a girl to be my girl friend. Thanks for the songs. Just wanted to say the lead singer was very beautiful and had all her photos on my wall back in the day' Thanks Skyy once again for the great songs.

  • Thx 4 postin this! LoveSkyy! Their funk is still jammin'! Tried to find some ringtones for them! Voices and sound don't get down like that anymore!

  • i like a lot of skyy 's jams i wish that they would come out with more music. their jam real love is mine and my wife's song, from high school. memories thanks SKYY!!

  • Nice! This track was baaad!!! Love it. :)

  • I love that song!

  • I remember them doing this on Soul Train when I was a kid. I even dubbed this off of the radio. Y'all remember doing that shit? Ahh the memories.

  • hell yea, I got tapes and tapes with half songs half commercial, stepped out tha room and the damn thing recorded the song and commercials haha

  • @ForceFagerstorm Hell yea I used to record all kinds of stuff from the radio and even the commercials...it's odd how ancient cassette tapes seem to be these days

  • This was, basically, the last hit for Skyy--and one of, if not, their baddest jams!

Oh, how I miss the days when music was so good, you could tap your foot and sing a jam all day--and couldn't wait to hear it again, the next day!

  • Hey.. whatta ya me "couldn't wait to hear it again the next day". LOL (I played it over and over the same day). I dont know how old you are, but we would be a 45rpm record and let the arm repeat over and over. That's when you know a song was jammin. LOL (thanks for watching and commenting.. Have a blessed day)

  • LOL! Thanks for uploading this, juke! I recently turned 41. When I was a kid, the turn table and radio was always hummin' in my house, so I can relate with you on that, too.

When this jam came out, I was stationed in South Korea. It was one of the favorite jams of the DJ's in all the NCO Clubs. I had the cassette single of this and wore the hell out of it on continuous play, snapping my fingers, many a day, lol!

Keep schooling these young folks with real music and take care!

  • @Dynamo001 Feel ya on that. I was about to enlist in the Air Force. Song was also jammin to the MEPS.

  • One of the songs that got me through college. Thanks Ladies !

  • Brings back good memories...I believe I was in middle school as well....Classic!

  • Thank you jukejoint! So glad that ol' school is appreciated! Keep'em coming!

  • I loved and still love this song! Classic!!!

  • i thought skyy was a new group back in the 80's and 90's when i was a kid. i had no idea they were around since the early 70's.

  • lol wow u know whats weird my robot teacher is from that band lol

  • this is like the black version of the metro by berlin lmao

  • this is sooo what's up!!! reminds me of middle school.

  • the dunning sisters are in a class by themselves had all of skyys albums much love

  • Awesome 80's jam!!

  • LOVE IT!!

  • I remember back in the 80's when Skyy came to Memphis They were a great band

  • Love SKYY, they will always have a beat in my heart. This is music that will always sound good no matter when you play it, or where you are. It will always be the greatest. Love all of you members of SKYY. Thanks for all the great tunes.

  • She sung so sexy on this song. The way she sung her notes made me aroused.

  • No doubt...she could bring it.

  • love this song thanks foe posting it

  • To the ladies of Skyy-when will you be coming through the Carolinas? Real Love brought me my first wife!! Much thanks to you, and RIP to her!!!

  • I seen Skyy years ago when I was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. So many great memories!

  • My brother, sister, and I recorded this from Video Soul and played it over and over. Love this song!

  • Much Love to ALL of ya'll who are giving us props! It is so nice to hear such wonderful comments after all these years. The three female vocalists are still singing (and yes, we are sisters)! Hit us up with an email comment as we are trying to explore the possibility of coming to a town near you! Love to all of you!!! Denise - Ladies of SKYY

  • i love u ladies and have done so for years!!still got a cassette(yes cassette)tape that i recorded "real love" over and over on so i could go to sleep to it!!!thats whats up!!dayton ohio reprsentin for skyy!please believe it

  • A cassette tape??? I LOVE it! Thanks so much for keeping our music alive. Let me know if there are any clubs in dayton that bring in old school acts for performances. We would love to visit and meet you. Thanks! Ladies of SKYY

  • Hi Denise!!! You voice is one of a kind!!!! I rocked your songs constantly! Keep doing what you do!!!! You Ladies are a Work of Art!!! Much Love from a "SouldieRR" deployed in Iraq!!!!

  • Come on now! You can't tell me that the "So fine" break-down chant wasn't hot! This was a damn good song in the late 80s and can still bump this very day if we could get today's generation to know what and appreciate real music! The 80s and 90s had some R&B for your ass! Everyone had their own sound and the singers could stop the band and drop it acapella! Please let me know if you folks out there feel the same way. Quality music must come back! Until then its 80s and 90s in the truck all day!

  • mhoussel im with u

  • I heard this Song back in the Day, but never seen th Video until now..Thanks I was looking for this I liked this Track!!

  • Oh, wow. That's cool. Thanks Jukejoint. I didn't even notice;-)

  • I wonder what happen to the lead singer? Her voice was very unique. Sorta reminds me of Phyliss Hyman.

  • She's still around. Look below at some of the comments from Ladyskyy2. She visits the boards. She's really, really nice. She answers questions to all her fans. We didn't know the correct lyrics to Start of Romance, and she told us. LOL. They really appricate their fans. I hope they tour one day out here in L.A. (or record again)

  • this was the jam!!

  • this beat is mad ill

  • Today is my first time seeing the vid but I loved this song from the very first time I heard it. I ran right out and bought the single ... on vinyl! The funny part is, it's been 20 years and I STILL play this song every time I meet a new girl! Hahahaha!

Thank you Skyy, for being part of a magic time in music.

"...Right out of GQ magazine..." Oh HELL yes!

  • To all of the fans who have written in, thanks you so much...Mr. Juke Joint is right..we DO keep up with the comments our fans make. I am so thankful for the young fans especially..when you say you were in the 7th grade..I am just amazed that you are still listening and loving our music. The Ladies of SKYY are continuing to keep the funk going, and we hope to come to a town near you...LOVE TO ALL OF YA'LL - The Legendary Ladies of SKYY

  • Thank you for all the wonderful memories! I came up on your music from my grammer school days in East NY Brooklyn all the way through my high school sweetheart years!! HERE'S TO YOU!!

  • Ms. Ladyskyy2, I have loved you guys for over 20 years. I'm now 37 and loving you still. Come to NC for a show, we need some good music here.

  • You shouldn't be surprised. All of the 80's artists had their own distinctive styles. We who were teens and grew up with that sound see how todays generation... specifically in Hip Hop music have basically sneaked the 80's swagger and planted it in their music so they pay you guys compliments and they don't realize it. Our generation knows how great you were and are. 70s/80s R&B funk and slow jams are the standard. That autotune ella... eh..eh..eh is just tired now.

  • Please come to San Diego and do a concert for the troops through the USO. I would give you guys a tour of the ships.

  • Nice jam. It was a club banger in 1989.

  • Whew! You ain't lying about that!

  • Every time I hear this song, it takes me back to an episode of Soul Train where they kept showing this beautiful, curvaceous Laotian woman. The way she was dancing and teasing the camera was hot. I was a preteen at the time, but that scene has stayed with me.

  • this was actually a great come back jam for them that unfortunitly was severely overlooked, skky is one of the best funk groups, with probably the flyest sounding chick to ever sing on a record in denise

  • Love it one of my favorite songs when I was little. Thanks for posting.

  • True Dat!

This is one of my long list favorite New Jack Swing jams. Skyy really did it big on this one! Much props to the 70s/80s bands who made REAL music!

    Peace :-)

    Peace

  • One of the best songs from one of the most underrated groups of the 80s. More underrated than Klymaxx, Loose Ends, and Club Neuvou but this song rocks. Haven't seen this video since the 7th grade. The ladies kept it classy by keeping their clothes on and people still paid attention to them. This is definately going into my Favorites.

  • I so agree wtih you. Go back and look at how sexy all three of the sisters look with their clothes on. I don't understand why Janet, Mariah, Toni Braxton and few others feel the need to be naked all the time. The Ladies of Skyy (Denise and her sisters are sexy in this video). I would go up to them in a club any day and ask them to dance (or Call Me, if they need someone to talk to).

  • What a flashback moment. I was young, sexy, skinny and ready for the world ! YEAHHH!

  • go 'head skyy! ..this was the jam..concert please? when u touch me was one of my favs, along with here's to you...thanks tjj for posting...skyy we miss u!

  • I am a gut bucket funksta! I am glad to see brothas and sistas in their early thirties understand the funk! Yes!

  • Man..this brings back so many memories! This is when most music was original. I miss the eighties!

  • I remember this group from the 80s and they deserved much more airplay than what they received. Everyone loved this song. It definately deserves a spot in my favorites and hopefully youtubers that have never heard this song before will get a chance to hear this excellent group and song.

  • I liked this song from the moment I heard it. Unfortunately, I was a kid and the onliest place I could hear this song was on Soul Train because they never played this song on the radio where I am. I guess that this was a regional hit. Even though I only heard this song a few times, I still liked it.

  • Where do you live? It was actually a #1 R&B here in the United States along with their other song Real Love (which I have posted as well)

  • I live in Nashville, Tn. #1 on the R&B chart Wow! Like I said, they never played this song on the radio stations here. Like I said, I would only hear this song on Soul Train. Come to think of it, I heard this song on other dance shows at the time as well. But, the only place I could hear this song was on TV. But, oh well, it's good to know that this song did as well as it did.

  • Thanks so much watching. I know that the "Ladies of Skyy" who are still together reads the messages here. I'm sure they appreciate your comments as well. I think most music fans were surprised that this went to #1. Most of the big groups from the 80's had fallen off the charts. Even though they had great music, the industry had changed and the sound was different. I think Skyy was the last big R&B group from the 80's to have a #1 hit. Thanks again! Have a happy New year.

  • I just moved to ATL from NYC in 89 and was working at a Macy's in the men's dept and we had videos playing on the monitors...ANYTIME this video came on I would stop and start dancing...I know my customers used to be like WTF...Good times....You can't beat the vocals and the funk..So Sweet..So phiiiine..lol

  • Hey landobnice ... I always sang it as "So sweet ... so foyne ..." lol

    LOVE IT!!!

  • Shoooot I think we all sang it like that..lol

great great song...You HAD to get up and move..

  • i loved this song when i was a kid thanks

  • Dear: TheJukeJoint... your video selections are on the money!!!. Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to bring back memories that most of us will cherish forever. I am sure that you have heard of Fungi Mama by Tom Browne and Walking in the Sunshine by Central? Thanks again for the musical memories and I will continue to check out your postings as often as possible. God bless!

  • When music was music! Love the song. Thanks for posting it!

  • Why oh WHY can't I find the mp3 of this???

  • Man!! I get chills everytime I see something this good...I remember watching Donnie Simpson on BET/Video Soul, then later in the night...Midnight Love, all my favorites came on...Freddie Jackson, Klymaxx, Micheal Cooper (Over and Over)...the images! The sounds! You could feel the songs...the happiness in the music!! Yes, Thank you for posting this...This video used to remind me a little of "Full Force" also! Feels good!!

  • DAMN!!! I didn't know there was a video for this song. I'm so glad you posted it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • This was the Sh**! I was in the 4th grade when this song was out, going to a private school singing this song in the hallway, shame on me! lol

  • This was the Sh**! I was in the 4th grade whwn this song was out, going to a pivate school signing this song in the hallway, shame on me! lol

  • MOST UNDRRATED GROUP OF ALL TIME...

  • At 00:49 what is she saying after, "You were blue your eyes were brown..."

  • I have no idea. Hell, for the longest I thought Denise was saying "Skyy to Romance" (say it along with her and you will see why I thought so).

  • she is saying "You were blue your eyes were brown..."

  • I say - "You wore blue, your eyes were brown, more than brown was in your eyes." meaning..I saw that he was checking me out! thanks for listening so closely...luv ya - The Legendary Ladies of SKYY

  • still looking for "LOVE IS BLIND " by skyy, please anyone post and get at me when you do this is one amazing group in an era when music had much substance

  • You can find that on The Anthology by Skyy. It the 15th track on the second CD. It's not cheap but worth every cent, for that song alone to me.

  • This takes me back to High School....

  • song is slammin.

  • damn, I forgot about this amazing song and video!! Thanks for the post!

  • I love her voice. Nobody else sings like that.

  • skky is the best, they jam nonstop, this song was a great comeback for them even if it wasnt that popular, thier music is allways jammin

  • Go to Knyte77's page and check out an interview I did with Denise Wilkinson from Skyy.

  • this is music ,instead of that bu&&sh%t on

    the radio

  • Wow..it is good to see this video.. thanks for postin.. like to see what my family(aunts)looked like back in the day!!!!

  • 1988-89 had really good music around that time. I loved this song

  • To be honest. though most people my age are with music today (and most of it is crap)

Music around that time was real good. I have a collection of music like this And Skyy is one of my favorite groups & this is my SONG!!

  • I love Denise's voice!!!!!!!

  • I had this on cassette single.

  • Coming soon on you tube will be an interview with Denise Wilkinson from Skyy. Stay tuned for details!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks j85. I'm sure we will all be looking forward to that. I'm sure can tell by the comments that we all love them. Randy Muller who produced this song just sent a comment as well.

  • Hey Guys: Glad to see your positive comments about this jam. As producer along with partner Solomon Roberts, I must say this is one of my favorite tracks I've had the pleasure of cutting with the group. It was the perfect comeback record: It is a distinction this group should be proud of: #1 records in two decades; both the 80s ( Call Me") and 90s.

Honored to be part of the Skyy story.

    Randy Muller

  • Wow! Thank you Randy for stopping by and commenting. "We love Skyy". I thought the CD after this was just as good. "Nearer To You" was jammin just as much. "Up and Over - Stronger and Better" should have been #1 as well. Take care. God Bless. (Keep us posted on anything new you're working on. We will spread the word.)

  • I'm glad you have good comments about this song cause this is one of my favorites from Skyy. Though I'm now 21. And by the way whatever happened to Solomon Roberts or Anibal Sierra?

  • this is one of my fav groups.this brings back so many memories.thank you for posting.this is real old skool at its best.

  • wow i haven't heard this song since it came out. I totally forgot it was by Skyy. Thanks for posting.

  • You're welcome. This was 89 or 90 and Skyy and had two #1 hits from this CD. It is such a great song. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • you right!!!

  • I got this song (extended version) on my ipod.

  • Excellent point. Today's singers don't smile. Too busy looking 'gansta'. Pity the kids today who never experienced music that was about having fun, not gaining street cred.

  • I've had a hard time finding this song on CD. Thank goodness for Youtube, I can enjoy it here. Also, I'm only in my 30's but can't help thinking "They don't make em like they used to"!

  • If y'all could only see the smile that this song has put on my face...... Maaaan I love me some Skyy!!!

  • by far one of my all time favorites. I can't help but second (or third) all the previous comments regarding today's "music" and its "musicians" Good thing we've got YouTube!

  • "want find that it todays garbage" LOL. I agree. I hadnt' really looked at their faces. Denise was feeling this song "so strange when you feel something good, something real"

  • you know that all she did was tear your love apart i was there to help you put back all the broken parts thought my hopes and dreams were finally coming true at last it was gonna be me and you at last hear i am alone again i wont listen to my friends "LOVE IS BLIND' and so am i ooo baby why do you think i got these tears in my eyes LOVE IS BLIND by SKYY please post if you or anyone has it

  • Finally the good stuff!!! I NEED to find this CD!! Music today is very, very lacking. My 16 year old agrees this is AWESOME!!

  • Thanks so much for your comment. I agree with you all the way. Writers used to tell a story when they wrote songs.

  • I used to blast this one when it came on Kiss-FM or BLS. Great bass. 80's music was real, original, funky. No one wants to sound like an old fart, but today's music is all sampled, nothing is original.

  • I remember hearing this joint when it came out and I was only 4 or 5. BLS, Kiss, you name it.

  • It was 1989 When this JAM Dropped...THIS WAS THE JAM...From 40 feet away i heard your lips to say just another case of boy meets girl..OLD SCHOOL JAMS had lyrics and meaning.TODAY'S MUSIC IS GARGAGE... THE RECORD COMPANIES CRY SALES ARE DOWN. Thats because they put out garbage...i bet if a record company put out some good R&B they would sell like crazy..OLD SCHOOL FOREVER ..IM OUT

  • now this s music!! i love oldskool1!!!!!:-D

  • Oh GOT-DAYUM...!!! I was what...? 9 or 10 when this hit, but it feels so good to hear it on youtube. Fortunately I do have it on CD, even though I have never seen the video before this....

  • that song was my ish back in the day! :)

    damn i can't believe i'm calling the

80s "back in the day" and i'm only 31!

but the best music for our generation came from the 70's to mid 90's

  • Wasn't it so cool how songs actually told a story? It was like art. It really moved you. "So strange when you feel..., something good or something real. You wonder if it's meant to be... Start of Romance. Could this be?". Thanks for posting. This was the jam!

  • that was the shit ...

  • I wish we could go back to these good ole days. Dam, I wanna cry! lol!

  • omg i remember hearing this song on the radio i was only 9 years old

  • this is my song!!!

  • Great post......

  • This brings back good memories. Thank you.

  • i love this song, just never knew who sung it. thanks for posting.

  • THANKS AGAIN JUKE JOINT!!!!!

  • I still love "Skyy"....

  • I love this group. This is when partying was cool, all group members could sing and play an instrument. Those days are long gone. Long live Skyy!!

  • was there a video for Real Love.. that song is a quiet storm BANGER

I think this hit #1 in either 89 or 90.. what has happened to music

  • No, there wasn't a video to "Real Love". It went #1 as well. It was rather suprising to me that it went #1 without a video. However, I was glad that it did. It shows that a good song can do well without a video. I love videos, but I wish the artsit would concentrate on the song and the let the video be an addition to the song.

  • 1989

  • A live version of Real Love has been posted. Denise can blow!!

  • Skyy still got it 8 years after "Call Me" thsi and "Real Love" went to #1 on the R&B charts!
