  • Like if you're watching this in 2011 :)

  • @codencis19 no.

  • Your so young back then

  • dame you sucked back then

  • I saw your 200kSub video and just had to watch your very first video :D

  • @OverHashishin SAME lol.

  • i wanna win i-touch 4g

  • What is your opinion on this Intel transition? I feel it was one of the worst moves Apple has ever made as a company. The Power PC architecture was so much better and had more potential than the x86 architecture ever has. Also, why did Apple have to go with Intel? AMD would have been a much better deal for them and for Apple's customers. As far as I am concerned, I will continue to run my Power Mac G5 until they come out with something different.

  • Woaaaaaaah, how different are you here?!

  • lol wow big difference

  • cool a mbp

  • You look like my cousin Lorenzo..cute =)

  • lol 40?

  • is he actually a soldier? or does he just dress up like that?

  • he is

  • he's actually a solder

  • @sayyes1000 he is a soldier. respect the man!

  • 0:58 arrrr

  • Actually 200GBhd

  • 2gb memory

  • mark27 to SoldierKnowsBest, why does the title bar in video say soldierknowsbest, but you say mark27

also you sounded like you were about to die or something

  • you have improved A LOT in making videos since this one, sounds like your about to fall asleep lol...

    good job

  • they obviously think you stole it!

  • LOL imac27

  • YOUR FIRST VIDEO!!!

  • how do u make thins upsiide down

  • I am thinking of buying my Macbookpro with an SSD drive.. does it really worth its money?

SSD is supposed to be very fast.. but also very expensive.. and.. small.. (only 120Giga)

    what do you thing ?

  • I'm pretty sure solid state means that the drive doesn't spin at all. So it would be motionless. There are many reasons that that would be a huge advantage.

  • you're correct, it does have enormous advantages as well.

  • should i get this?

  • any other penryn uses ever had any graphics glitches? mine have pretty much gone but occasionally the old white flashes on youtube vids and jerky animations (spaces etc) will return.....

  • This is interesting becuase althought i do not have a macbook, my new penryn based dell laptop ocasionly has white flashes on youtube videos.

  • what graphics card do you have? i am rocking the nvidia 8600m GT. just thinking whether it is the CPU or GPU that causes the problem.......

re OS updates: i am now on OS X 10.5.6 and the problems have pretty much gone . you runnung XP or Vista service packs? this has piqued my curiosity!! i want a solution!!!

  • i dont like your "macbook for old people" i am 26 and i love my white 2ghz macbook. it does everyting i need and i even run my old rpgs roms for the kids. not a bad machine, just not good for all those fancy 3d games.(nothing but gun junk anyways) i find this a good family machine. i have a 2 and 4 yr old and they love it. no need for ps3 or wii. just 1000$ macbook and a few roms and they are set for the day. and i am set for myself. think about your mindset please.

  • shut up

  • How do i know i have the Peryn macbook pro or not (September 2006 is when i bought it)

  • you may even have a PowerBook G4. What is the hard drive?Go to the  menu>about this mac. if it says Intel Core Duo, it is not Penryn. It may be santa rosa. just tell me what the processor speed is. if it has no iSight on the top of the display, it is a PowerBook G4. the iSight is a built-in webcam

  • i 100% agree wit you========IF U HAVE ANY APPLE PRODUCT SURELY THEY TAKE SECOND LOOK....

  • Yo the bottom of the laptop gets hot on my macbook pro 17"... I use it in bed... and it warms me up when its cold so I like it lol warms my hands lol good purchase man

  • lolololol. when i'm cold i use it haha. ur funny

  • so would it play rTs games really well? or how about MMo's?

  • lolz! UMMM G-D-D-D-D-D-R!

  • My sony vaio fw 139E/H boots up around 40 seconds.. I guess vista is catching up?

  • Actually, 35-40 secs is a pretty bad boot time for a macbook pro... Mine boots up in around 25 secs, and with the added delay of bootcamp, which takes an extra 4 seconds... If I remove bootcamp, it's a flat 20secs. And all that with a simple 250gb sata hdd @5400rpm...

  • he probably has an older computer then you

  • u rock dude!

  • I want a MacBook Pro. :(

  • Great review. I just won a macbook pro with 4 gig of ram and a iPod touch! How happy do you think I am!

  • you bastard. haha

  • Awesome, with all that power you have to be cranking the most awesome games, oh wait nevermind, ROFL.

  • He can afford to buy a 360 and ps3 for games.

  • I have both and neither can even scratch what a powerful PC can.

  • great review. thanks for this.

  • im saving up for a macbook pro now!:)

  • :D if you save enough you better wait til 2009 for new updates :D or september i dunno but wait :D

  • what updates are there gonna be

  • it hasn't been stated but they always have upgrades that are worth it. it pays for itself i think then if you get it for like $200. people are saying they might put blu ray on it but i dunno.

  • Hi tryed using the multi-touch on macbook pro and isnt working?

  • Go into the System Preferences and in the Keyboard and mouse settings make sure the trackpad has the multi-touch features enabled.

  • thanks alot..

  • OMG!!!

    u sounded so down

  • SKB,

Came across one of your vids a few weeks ago -- was considering buying a MBP before heading off to Spain for a year -- and I've watched about a dozen of them since. Lot of great info, man. I especially liked the PicLens one (great find), the MBP Penryn Review and the MBP Design.

Anyway, you'll be happy to know there's a MBP 2.4Ghz currently in transit to my doorstep. Since I'm a photographer, I've also ordered a 2x2GB Crucial upgrade to feed photoshop.

    Keep up the good work.

  • sorry that was a stupid question

  • are you in the army

  • really nice review!

  • great review, i bought my macbook pro a month ago on this!

  • the one thing i think about is the back lit key. cool yea a lil bit but why would u need it. If i am using my macbook in the dark the screen is bright enough so that i can see all of them perfectly fine. just my take on them. The only thing i would need a macbook pro for is to run autocad but untill i get a job where i need a laptop for my architectural work i guess ill just keep upgrading my macbook.

  • Do you know how much video this MBP can hold. I take a lot of video that I would like to make into a DVD, and I just want to know how it handles large video files.

  • What's the best way to clean the aluminum casing of the Macbook Pro?

  • you dont show your mac...

    that sucks

  • How durable is the MacBook Pro? My iPhone back scratches so eaisly. Also i need advice, I'm going to High School and getting into video and photo editing and game designing. I'm either getting the Dell XPS M1730 or the Macbook Pro. My price limit is $2500.

    Thanks. :)

  • My MBP has no scratches yet and its pretty durable. If your price limit is $2500, get the MacBook Pro hands-down! You can get the 2.g Core 2 Duo and 512 NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. You're gonna have plenty of power plus the best OS on your computer, Mac OS X Leopard. Plus there are great Video and photo editing software for the Mac like Shake, Final Cut Studio, as well as Photoshop.

  • well, the software like 3d Studio Max, which is used alot in game design, doesnt run on OS X. I think the macbook pro would be better, as you can bootcamp into windows, and it will be pretty close performing to the m1730, however is soo much lighter and easier to carry around. which is a huge plus for highschool and i assume you are going to university, so the weight is definatly a plus.

  • great vid...but...i think apple made the alu case because alu atracts heat so is like a radiator....so is very logical....if** something heats up is transimted to the case and the air does the rest....physics :D:D transfer of heat...everything has a purpose :D this is my logic about why is getting so hot

  • great vid...but...i think apple made the alu case because alu atracts heat so is like a radiator....so is very logical....you something heats up is transimted to the case and the air does the rest....physics :D:D transfer of heat...everything has a purpose :D this is my logic about why is getting so hot

  • Did you order it online? If so, how long did it take to be delivered from the time you ordered it? Thanks.

  • I got mine from the Apple Store in Memphis.

  • My bad... you upgraded already. I hould have listened to the entire video first.

  • Hey... nice review! You can upgrade to 4gigs for $90 at macsales-dot-com. I have a macbook but I want the macbook pro next!

  • Well, orderd it anyway!

Will be coming in around the 23rd :) sweet.

  • hey man i love the videos i just found you today and i just subscribed today as well haha.

im getting the macbook pro in june for a graduation present but ive been hearing about a new macbook pro coming out soon....should i wait till the new one comes or just get this one now?

thanks, and good job on the vids!

  • Yea I say wait....Apple holds a conference starting on June 9th and there they will announce all their new products and it has been rumored that there will be a new version of the MBP that will update the insides and the design so your best bet will be to wait. Thanks for the comment.

  • ty for the reply, dang i should probably wait but im so excited that i'll probably not be able to! I find the current mbp's amazing as they are right now!

  • "Thats what she said...before the current macbooks existed" ;)

  • im the same way, i know i should wait but i want a mbp so bad i dont want to wait

  • Oh by the way, got a question regarding the 4GB RAM.

On my Desktop i once put in 4GB of RAM (running Windows XP Pro) and the system basically froze every few minutes after being booted. Since WinXP doesnt support 4GB RAM, i had to take out 2GB again.

You say you're running WinXP SP2 using boot camp AND have 4GB RAM. Does the system recognize it at all? No problems whatsoever? Does it help gaming performance or is it basically just meant for the Mac OS?

    Thanks!

  • Well, XP will run with 4GB...However it will use 1GB for system services so really it will only be taking advantage of 3GB. It might be something else making it freeze. Game performance does improve. Not a huge bump but a bump nonetheless.

  • Hey, thanks allot for this vid!

Im currently running a old windows laptop.

Going to step over to Mac as well, the exact same model you got. With these specs:

    - 2.4ghz proc.

    - 4gb ram

    - 200gb hdd 7200rpm

    - geforce 8600gt 256ram

Im a webdeveloper and same as you, i like to play a game now and then. Mainly i play Company of Heroes. Quite sure the setup that im getting will support most of the games out there at the moment? cant wait!

Was thinking of getting an Alienware Laptop but changed my mind!

  • Thanks for the great review.

  • how much hard drive space did you partition for boot camp.

  • 40 GB partition...

  • thanks.

  • I am thinging of getting a macbook pro and i was doing some research and some people said that you get black strips on the screen and there is a problem with the screen do you think that there is a problem or not since you have a macbook pro

  • Naw..I haven't noticed any of that...Trust me that problem is not widespread.

  • Ok Thank you Very much you helped me alot and your videos help me alot great job. Thanks for Serving

  • Man this was amazingly helpful. Im into computers and I own a macbook pro and this was so helpful, makes me wonder if i needed the max configuration. I actually just ordered the brand new imac today at max settings. Honestly very helpful video for people who don't understand computers that well and i loved the video. Im a subscriber now .

  • i love your videos dude :) I have subscribed to you. I think i will get a macbook pro

  • i have a question soldierknowsbest, i mean, do they really check your id if u order it online? cause im a college student but i dont live in the usa, that rule only applies to usa students, i was wondering if i could save those extra bucks by doing this, applying as an american student.. other thing is.. if i prefer to buy it on an apple store, would they now check my student id?

  • oh nice idea btw man, about removing batt, i hadnt thought about that

  • I'm still a "n00b" as far as OSX goes, but I'm getting the hang of it rather quickly and it's a great OS So far, my only gripe with the MBP is the lack of any additional USB ports (2 is just not enough) and the fact that they included not one, BUT TWO FREAKING FIREWIRE PORTS, what the hell? I know macs used a lot of firewire devices in the past but they have to face the facts, USB is a more versatile choice, I could understand it if they left ONE fwire port, but 2? Ok,/endrant

    Nice review ;)

  • The MacBook Pro has a firewire 400 and a firewire 800 port, and they're different, so you can't really say there are two of them, since some devices support 400 and 800 is the newer and faster version. Theyre not compatible with each other though.

  • I know they're different, but I still think it's a waste of space (a precious comodity on the MBP), the only device I own that uses firewire is my old 4th gen ipod, heck, not even the new ipods use firewire. They should just leave the 800 which is the fastest one for the people who actually need it to transfer large files and axe the 400 to put a usb port instead.

  • well its kind of hard to satisy everyone. And I think its easier to use USB hub then some sort of FireWire hub. But its also true that a lot of FireWire devices are external hard drives and stuff like that, which you usually don't carry around. I guess its really apple's decision about the USB ports... Nothing we can do about it.

  • Yeah, like I said, it's a minor gripe, but it annoys me because even my old 12" del xps m1210 had 4 usb ports, as well as firewire one (don't remember which type). I use an usb wireless mouse so that only leaves me with one usb port available, so it's a little annoying. I still like my MBP though :)

  • Same here, I had a Dell XPS Laptop before. MBP is definitely better; my old Dell had tight ports. I think the heat is more of an issue than the ports; if I didn't have smcFanControl, I'd probably be fried already. Lucky I can set my fans to 4000 rpm when I need to.

  • I got my MBP last week and so far, I really like it. I've been a PC user my entire life, however, I'm not a complete switcher because I still like Windows, my desktop runs on Windows and I wouldn't have bought a mac if they didn't have the ability to run Windows, I will probably just use it to play games, but still, it would have been a deal breaker for me if it couldn't run it (like it was before the intel switch)...continued

  • do you believe that it would be good for me to upgrade from my normal macbook to a macbook pro penryn with 512 mb VIDEO ram. Cause I gotta play some serious games that my macbook gets burned out on playing 2 of my games, and my other 2 it can't even play, and I need some serious editing. would it really be worth the cost?

  • Definitely!...It will without a doubt be able to handle everything you want to do with it.

  • thanks, I will make a vid showing how bad my games are , then when i get my MBP, it will look like a whole new game is being played. thanks for the reccomendation.

  • Definitely!...It will without a doubt be able to handle everything you want to do with it.

  • Definitely!...It will without a doubt be able to handle everything you want to do with it.

  • I know how great the MacBook Pro can be. I have second on (not the base). I first had the base edition but it couldn't play certain games and I couldn't edit video as well as i could on my PC. So I got the one with 512mb of video ram, and now everything runs great.

Great review by the way. you should do a external review of it.

  • and yes my man i got the student discount thanks for the heads up. and i havent even enrolled yet...YES holla

  • Fantastic review,

    thankyou

  • great review... thanx

  • great review man. I was thinking of a macbook but now i am thinking of a macbook pro.

It just a huge price difference so i need more funds.

    cheers

  • Remember to use the student discount...

  • Hey thanks on telling your opinions, As I was Um and ahing about getting one, I am still stuck with a G4 (Yes it's old) and thanks to your honest review I am planning on getting one, but I won't get that lucky discount as I'm only 13 -.-

  • Great Review!

  • first class review. thanks.

  • That chair is fit for a KING!

  • im have recently started saving for my MBP but im new to macs..i am a gamer and i was sceptical about macs and gaming but thanks to you im ready to move on because i deserve the best for my money...i subscribed and added you so i can get some info from a real mac user.

  • awesome review, im subscribing now.

    peace

    Brian

  • Thanks so much for such a great review! Watched all your other Mac videos and they are all great. Another thanks for answering my question :) Subscribed permanently.

  • It's matte as in mat, not matty. Great vid though. Thanks.

  • Yea I corrected myself lol...Thanks for the comment...

  • I was thinking of getting a higher end macbook but now I am thinking of waiting alittle longer to get the macbook pro. Itried my brother's mac pro and it is awesomely fast and it looks PIMP!

  • Hey brotha, this will be my first time buying a apple computer!. I was wondering does ilife comes with the macbook pro? and can I really play any pc video games on a 256 mb G force?

  • Yes and Yes! iLife comes standard on all new Macs and you can go to my channel to see me running different games on my MacBook Pro...Congrats on your new purchase...You won't be disappointed in what you can do with it...

  • Good Video I'm Subcribed

I just got the same spec macbook pro

I got it for cheaper then the education discount, I got it for 1500.

I still havent got it yet

I just want to know what you think of the Keyboard.

  • I enjoy the keyboard...it's very responsive..I ESPECIALLY like the fact that it's backlit...

  • have you gotten a chance to use the macbook air keyboard?

  • Just in the store for a brief second...its pretty cool...but haven't spent extensive time with it..

  • Finally somebody black with one lol. My brother lmao.

  • LOL....

  • really like your videos

  • good review man

  • Made a small error, you said 2GB Hard Drive but I think you meant 200 and lol at 3:11 , was that a gang sign?, lol just playin.. great review!

I'm going to be a college student next year but Do you think I should wait until 2009 to get the MacBook Pro or so do you think i should get it now. The Student discount isn't a problem though 200 dollars would be good to have!

  • Lol...yea its a 200GB HD and the gang sign was arthritis..j/k...I say why wait. Get it now. However there is a rumor that Apple might be releasing a refresh of the MacBook Pro in June. They are more than likely going to change the design and upgrade the video card and processor again. So that is something to think about. My honest opinion is to go ahead and get and enjoy.

  • Thanks man, I haven't heard any rumors about any Apple hardware beside the iPhone, maybe if I research a little more because the MBP would be my first switch to Mac, and I don't want to be left behind in the dust when I'm just starting out with them...

I use the Older 20inch 2.16GHz iMacs at my school( we got them when they were the current version), with Tiger, They're great, that's why I want to switch. I tried out Leopard in the apple store recently and I love it.

    Thanks again!

  • Great review man!

I currently have an 17" HP laptop running XP so I know how heavy it can be. I'll hopefully be getting the Mac soon, just need to figure out which one. Did you consider getting the 17" Pro?

  • I did consider the 17"...but the 15" fit my needs perfectly. I'll do a video to compare the 15" and 17" models.

  • great review, im getting one soon most likely

    are you in the military?

  • Congrats on your future purchase...yeah I'm in the Army.

  • unlike most other reviews you actually know what your talking about so great review

  • my thoughts exactly.

I've been on the fence between the blackbook and the macbook pro, although this may have sealed the deal. can't wait for your other reviews, SKB!

  • Fantastic review!

  • Thanks!
