@tech4156 Washing your head doesn't have to do anything with a botfly. I don't study this, but I have enough common sense to know that this was an insect bite.
belize seems to be famous for its infamous parasitic bot flies!! well. the flys leave their eggs on mosquitos and when the mosquitos begin sucking blood, eggs will fall off and i think from the heat the eggs will hatch and then make an incision in the skin and then live off its host till whenever.
@MissQuietGirl They had made breathing holes on the outside of his head. We were worried there were more too! However, it's been 2 years now and no more botflies!
Ppl need to stop going to Belize!! Because it seems lyke everytime someone goes to belize they get botfly larvae in them!! My bro went to belize and when he came home he had a lump thing on the side of his head with a hole in it. And he went to the doctor and they took out three botfly larvae!! He said it hurt. I bet it did.
It's really unfortunate that the doctor didn't recognize what it was. Human beings are traveling more than ever before, and I think doctors need to be more educated about the diseases you can pick up from abroad.
@SpiritTwilight - LOL, I was making a bad joke. You said learn about diseases from abroad, and the horrible joke was why don't you have to learn about diseases from adude? (get it?) Bad, I know. I don't usually make dumb jokes like that, lol. :)
In Africa, you will notice the wealthy people have all their clothes ironed, especially in cities. That's to kill the eggs/larvae. I don't think bug spray works. I think the flies lay eggs in the clothing fibers & when a person dresses then sweats, the larvae burro into the skin & grow.
I saw one on a friend's foot, likely from his un-ironed socks.
When I was in Africa I wore sandals ALL the time & paid a bit extra for the ironing.. it's worth it & to westerners it's still incredibly cheap.
Yes, we tried many things. My husband got tired of waiting. He wanted them OUT!!! Even though it hurt REALLY bad when they came out, he said it was worth it just to have them out!
They are spines all around their body. It was VERY painful!
We just wanted a better look at it. This was done in a living room with lights on. It just looks like it was done at night because the lights in the living room were not bright enough.
We had a very sick kitten and we noticed a hole in his neck and it was one of these. We had an old syringe (like for baby medicine and such) and when the botfly came up for air we sucked it out and then dropped some betadine into the little hole. The kitten lived to be a very old cat.....
your meant to starve them of oxygen. They have spike like rim's around their body, which when pulling on the botfly, stab into the surrounding tissue. This further lodges the botfly and causes more pain.
Same here , and so paranoia sinks in, luckly though, its more common in central america.. im in eng, and know im relitivly safe, but it scared me like hell 1
OK i am NEVER going to belize EVER!!! every video i watch of these things are from there! and that looked painful yet awsome and im glad he was able to get it out! =D
No Dr. in the states knows how to deal with these, they're not native to the country. Only in Central America where the climate gets more tropical. Most Dr.s here would have never had need to see a botfly larva.
N.America has certain botflies-you're right though; vets deal with them. N..American botflies seem to exclusively use animals as hosts. Watching them writhing and undulating out of a dead animal...UGH. They're big, like the size of a quarter, and there'll be 5 of 'em in a baby squirell. I HATE parasites!
1 out of 3 u.s. Americans have some type of parasite (im American). They say that all other countrys see more cases.Which means where you live is probably 2 out of 3 people. The thing is,these type of parasites are so insignificant that they go unnoticed, and you wouldn't know you have them.
no no,there is actually a parasite that everybody has that we need to live, they live in and on our skin and eat our dead skin cells etc. If you had a harmful parasite, you would probably know. It's the fact that most parasites are virtually harmless is the reason why most people don't know they have them. Don't worry about it.
no only if u cant get it out but if you use vasaline and cover it the next day you could just sqeeze them out because they have not had and oxygen so they are weak
the fly captures a mosquito, then the lays its eggs on the mosquito... when the mosquito bites you the eggs drop off and burrow into the hole made by the mosquito. they then grow, feasting on your flesh until they mature and eat their way out of your skin. they then drop into the dirt where they build a cachoon and fully mature into a fly............................ when i was 15 years old i had two of them in my scalp... they were so deep i had to have them surgically removed
they dont burrow into the holes left by mosquito. they fall on you becasue of your body heat and burrow into your skin themselves. they can come from house flys as well.
Even God created the botfly! We were just happy that we figured out what was in my husband's head, as I am sure you would be very grateful if it were you. We thank God because we acknowledge His existence and feel he lead us to the right people at the right time.
You athiest make me laugh, Ive been through hell in back, drug addiction, heartbreak, loss of everything and if it werent for God I would have killed myself long ago. But youll all see soon enough what God can do, either when you have no where else to turn or another way, but he'll always be there waiting for you and he will forgive you.
BTW Rmaj this video is awesome and I loved the background story, and im very happy God lead you to the right person :D
