I think it's funny how everyone from different countries thinks we're all stupid. Yet, they try to tell me how bad I am at geography and know nothing about the world. If they are supposedly smarter and not racist (like they say Americans are), than they would be open-minded. How can you call yourself intelligent after stereotyping a group of people, calling them all dumb and fat, just because they're from America?
People around the world seem to focus on the American fringe, the ignorant and under educated. These people go on to think that most Americans are like this - somehow we are all grouped together as these xenophobic, war mongers. I could go on and list all the good things Americans have done over the past 235 years, but this would be stupid and would prove nothing. The fact that they generalize and group most of us shows their own ignorance and stupidity NOT ours.
Im anti-Americanism. Im also anti-Autralianism. No fucking country is worth the unadulterated near religious belly-aching the people from them spew out so constantly. Society themselves arent intelligent. American society however is by far the most obnoxious, so its not surprising or even unfounded that people will resent them. Judge people individually, but not all prejudices are unfounded. But you shouldnt be an arsehole, going by things you hear. Realize they exist, and move on.
sweeping generalizations and hatred, unfortunately, are a part of the human experience. i agree, let's tone down the arrogance and try to learn a little bit about our neighbors on planet earth. who knows, it just might help make the world a better place to live. judge me for what i do...not for where i'm from. anybody who hates you simply because of the country you're from probably is a bigot and shouldn't be taken to heart what they say or believe.
Americans and Australians share a very similar culture and historical experience. Australia exists because the Brits lost the American colonies. Australia had practically the same frontier culture that America had, for better or worse. Don't forget the British turned their back on the Aussies in WW2 just as they had done at Gallipoli, and Americans were quick to form an alliance.
I'm an American who has lived in other English-speaking countries, including Australia. While I would be the first to agree with the majority of issues and dislikes that people have of the US regarding our government and pop culture, I refuse to believe that the whole world hates America, why? Well, among other things, people keep immigrating here, even after 8 years of Bush. Indians, Italians, Koreans, Ukrainians, Ugandans, etc. The world RESENTS America, which is different.
yo one thing that is almost engrained in the american public is that the capital of australia is sydney.... let me just say that this american is twenty dollars richer for knowing that it is not
And I've got a lot of good to say about the aussies that came over here to help christchurch out. Jokes or rivalies aside we're there to back each other. Maybe I am wrong but I think the ANZAC spirit is still alive.

You go against what the Americans are writing here defending your country.
You are ignorant, don't know the difference between Eurasia (Europe/Asia) and Oceania (AustrALia, NZ and surrounding countries), and as you don't know the difference, there is a chance you actually went to Sussex in England and thus could not know Sydney sucks as 1, you don't know where it is and this is probably because you haven't actually been there.
Dear Skinboat, I believe you'll find that the people who live in Austria in Europe would be very offended by your seemingly irrelevant remark. I'm sure they would also inform you that Sydney is, in fact, in Australia on another continent. Please check your spelling before insulting my country again.
@Skinboat227 love, i'm sorry i have to pull you up there, but i think that if you ever look at an atlas you will find that sydney isnt in austria, it is a city in australia, which is on the otherside of the world.
Australians?Anti-Americanisms?They should be the last. They're only down there because we rejected British rule.Washington put them there not king George. We stopped the Japs in the Coral sea.We are the only thing preventing 100 million Muslims in Indonesia from storming their beaches tomorrow. They were ok with the British empire no matter what the poms did.Now they complain about us?We are just doing what WASP's have always done & they are with us shoulder to shoulder in Iraq etc. Shut up oz.
There was no chance they could've invaded, it was an afterthought and they were more keen on Burma. Even if they pushed a bit further the Japs were overstreched so that's a myth..
And when the poms were in power they weren't as depraved, such as posing with dead soldiers and such. Living so far away in isolated has made us appreciate peace more. Aus can point out fucked up things you do as much as we want.
you mean like, kicking aboriginal babies heads off was "(not) as depraved"?
Lets not get all high and mighty, thats just un-Australian... I'm Aussie, and I love this country, but I'm not going to ignore the past when we should instead learn from it.
America, like us, are a relatively new country and mistakes will be made.
@Grufftastic - I could not have said it better. I am an American living in Perth. Yes Australia and America have learned from past wrongs! You cannot ignore the past, but you have to learn from the past! My fathers mother was "Native American" (if you are unfamiliar with that term, "Native American" would be equal to "Aboriginal" in Australia).
We're not Ani-american. Don't buy into what these pot smoking losers say. In 2004 we held an election primarily based on our choice to support the US in the iraq war and our pro-US prime minister was elected by a landslide
Knee-jerk anti-Americanism never ceases to amaze me. It always comes in the form of first accusing Americans of how arrogant we are, followed by bragging and bloviating about how much their country is better, followed by a condescending dismissal of American culture and life. The definition of "irony" is forever lost on these people.
It's not the culture or anything like that. It's just that American's are so damn insular. And they NEVER shut up about what they've done. And they have this entire Paladin mentality that is grossly misplaced.
@cwood4ever While you surf the World Wide Web (British). BTW I rarely drink Coke, and the only clothes I'd wear by Nike are shoes (which I don't anyway). Wearing anything else with the tick is just paying to be a billboard.
@dalebsorry What's even more disturbing is the consistency in this Anti-American behavior. In New York when people from other countries try and tell us why they think they're better than us we shut them down immediately. We have zero patience for the insecurities they try to conceal with their verbal rage. The expressions on their faces are priceless when you put them in their place. Pure devastation.
@dalebsorry The 'they stole our women' reference is about WW2 and it stands today, there was a jovial complaint about American military personnel at the time being 'over paid, over sexed and over here'. Unfortunately its still true lol. What's wrong with us bragging? We actually have stuff to brag about.. If you knew and understood Australian humour you would know that we know perfectly well what irony is, as our humour stems from the best of british humour.
An article about David Hicks being mentioned in the New Yorker!!!! LMAO!
Anyway, as an american the anti-american sentiments really are offensive. If people dislike the foreign policy-great! THat's a valid point. But much of this sentiment is based on broad, sweeping generalizations and just pure hatred for all americans across the board. To my fellow americans- let's not be arrogant. Our country is not perfect, but there are a lot of good things. And let's reduce our ignorance.
Hmph I guess all Australians are perfect and have no stupid people in their country. They have evolved to the point that they don't see race, ethnicity, or religion. I guess all the aboriginals are happy and believe that they are first class citizens in their own land as well. For fuck's sake, the Australians are so fucking advanced they are probably just itching for PM Kevin Rudd's term to end so they can elect an Aboriginal into office. Damn it, you Australians are so fucking smart. TEACH US
