  • ROB NASTY!!!

  • I wish this is still the way people settle disputes instead of resulting to bullets, fist fights and jumping one another.

    Hip Hop for life!

  • Time - Edwin Star

  • whats the song?

  • When you do Uprock, you're supposed to get down at every fourth beat.

That's more like Toprock, than actual Uprock.

  • whatchin' this battle remind me at the game of ps2,called bboy

  • What is the track that is played at the start? I know it is a MF Doom track.

  • @boomtown85 Time-Edward Star

  • @BboyR3C0iL Damn dude what a beef u had hahah

  • West up!

  • wack

  • @BboyR3C0iL whatever asshole! how about you see me about something ? I thought so bitch! I'll beat yo ass back to you came from!

  • Definitely nothing I remember. Back to the drawing board fellas!

  • This shits gay, its like two drunk dads at a weddings, iv seen both of these two uprock much better then this

  • @Reeplay27 LMAO

  • dude im from down south, n all i have to say is jon, great one.... ya'll have damn near brought joyous tears to my eyes!! im going to be 30 this year my family are old school b.g.d.s n folk,...i'm a b boy regardless, n will b one till the day i die. ya'll made me so proud from what i just read. my uprock game is hype, each one, teach one...one!

  • круто парень бомбит тоже так хочу)))

  • i'm not an expert at uprocking but i dunno, watching this battle didn't seem like there were many burns going on... i mean i understand you use hand gestures to belittle your opponent or to defeat your opponent with a imaginary weapon which is counted on creativity as well as how you use your burns along with your musicality but it just seemed like they were throwing a lot of non-burn/offensive movements into this battle but of course there were a few burns going on still. either way nice battle

  • lmfao @ some of these replies.

(up)rock is a completely SEPARATE entity from b-boying.

    case closed.

  • im so confused :P how is this bboy

  • b-boying, like hip-hop itself is made up of sub-elements

    break dancing

    popping

    locking

    &

    uprock

are all b-boying although usually people mean break dancing when they say b-boying

  • WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT.

  • what's this song????

  • time - edwin starr

  • When Uprock started it was used by gangs as a way to lessen casualtys and settle disputes.

The way it was done was, the two gangs came brought there dancers and marked a line(or drew)

on the floor the dancers could not touch each other and could not pass the line.

Behind the line on each side were weapons(imaginary) that you had to use to kill your opponent

uprock was used as a way to kill your opponent without actually killing him.

Thats why theres a line on the floor, hoped it helped.

  • holy shit ima bboy and did not no tht..thanks!!!!

  • don't forget afrikaa baambata turning "the black spades" into hip-hop. ANY dance battle might start with "you wanna FIGHT, or you wanna ROCK?" REAL hip-hop was, just as BBoy said, a POSITIVE outlet for energy that sought to end violence. i get so annoyed with gangsta rappers saying they're hip-hop when they're hip-opposite!

besides weapons, there were also moves like "i ripped your ear off" & "i'm sniffing it" or "i'm ducking your shot" etc. too it's a shame that gangstas ruined it after 1990

  • @BBoyJonB13 thanks bro, i actually never knew that props

  • @bboysmyles No problem, bro. Just remember to be a good bboy you need both skills and knowledge. take care, peace from puerto rico.

  • @BBoyJonB13 YOu are wrong. uprock started the same time locking start. why back in the 70s soul train. than later on it merge into a break dance style. if you really wanna get deep into the root. a lot of break dance move came from capoaira. B-boy battle back in the day wasnt made to warm each other, but to prove a point and make a name out of yourself. DO YOUR RESEARCH. UPROCK WASNT MADE FOR KILLING ARE HARM!!!

  • @SuperPluto10 Well maybe I was wrong on how it actually started, But uprock was used by "gangs" (crews), and it was a war between them. It was also used to settle disputes. I dont know all the details but I I'm a humble student of Hip hop and its culture. So if you have anymore information on the subject please post it here, i'm very interested in the roots of my dance.

    peace!

  • @BBoyJonB13 No. your still wrong. they might had talked shit, but it wasnt nothing serious where you will label them as a gang. i know this for a fact. i use to break and my mom herself use to break when they first started b-boying. it was about fam and bragging rights. dance crews or group where notinh but a bunch of friend practicing to be the best dancers. thats all. i use in hella group since 7th grade all the way through high school. i know what im talking about.

  • @SuperPluto10 Actually no you don't. Crews were peaceful gangs. I forgot who but one of the hip-hop pioneers came up with the idea of not killing each other because everyone was losing members in gang wars so they came up with the fighting dance movement of up-rock. Theres alot more to the story but thats the outline. And if i'm not mistaken all gangs are family members/friends back then...

  • @BBoyJonB13 real gang at least in california was the blood and crips. not no dance group.lol. know what gangs are really about. it was just about colors.

  • @BBoyJonB13 thanks for the history much appreciated

  • @BBoyJonB13 bro what the fuck kinda weapons are they usin :O

  • @BBoyJonB13 i think it was kids who watched gangs form a line, and had potential recruits walk between the line and get punched and kicked in order to join, the kids later got older and from that influenced came the dance, i might be wrong tho,??? i wasnt ther. smurf. MZK

    \

  • @concreteallstars There are many views in how our dance started (in this case uprock), its all a matter of perspective. And you are not wrong I had heard that before also, about the "apache line". This is why I love hip hop history, I always learn something new. :)

BtW are you Zuluu smurf from boogie brats?? If so Im a big fan!

  • ummm....

is this wat people called uprock??

  • called? what are you talking about that is still uprocking today and that is what it was called bak in the day too what are you talking about?

  • wtf...? people are still talkin bout this...? funny...

  • rob was gettin some burns as always. fresh fresh. very unknown artform.

  • I don't dig the line...

  • no touching in rockin battles.

  • Didn't say that there'd be touching.

But I just think the line is very limiting.

It's more like a performance than a battle. (in my opinion)

  • yeah i know what you mean, but i mean thats just for rocking, things could get pretty out of control if there was no line, haha.

  • That's what I wanna see :)

An out of control battle, while maintaining control (paradox, I know).

  • youre absolutely right!

haha, the line is for competition use i guess.

  • this is not a very good example of uprock....

  • Uprock = Non contact, Kung-fu/Capoiera looking fighting-5 count dance done by 2 dancers against each other, or a group of many.

Toprock = Footwork done upright (it's a modified version of uprock for breaking)

Downrock = Footwork on the ground

  • dog, that need so mutch power in your legs, non-stop torockin' is a skill

  • just a lil info toprock is different from Uprock

  • yeah? so explain me the diffrent

  • you serious? or tryin to be serious? if you're serious bout it i'll tell ya a lil ..

  • yeah you read the right thing, just explain if you're sure that uprock and toprock a big diffrent is

  • Rocking came first in the late 60's, toprocks in bboying came around the mid 70's. In a sense, they're two different dances. Like really, just look at what they're doing compared to toprocking, I'm sure thats enough to show how different they are.

  • Toprock is an element of bboying. It is the part where you are still dancing on your feet, in standing position, before you get down on your hands.

Uprocking or Rocking or Brooklyn Rock started as a dance on its own separated from bboying. It started before bboying and has its own steps and style. It consists of movements called "jerks" and hand gestures called "burns."

  • Uprocking was later adopted by bboys because toprocking has a very open style, it borrows moves from many other dances. Uprock was mixed into toprock because they have the same rhythm, and the "burns" can be used against the opponents.

Both dances look very similar nowadays, but if you look at the older footage, you will see they are very much different.

  • Did the guy in the purple pantomime what I think he pantomimed at 0:46?

  • Uprock?

The style is nuttin' fo me

  • lol, you just made yourself looking a fool for saying that.

  • i lol'd

  • lol!

  • What's the song at 0:09-0:22?

  • Shit..... /:) Wtffff??

  • Exactly, this was sooo bad

  • lol this is pretty funny good battle to

  • sick!!!!

  • I don't wanna be disrespectful and I know a lot of bboys put in hard work, but this is a joke. I know times have changed but uprock's 1 of those classic old skool moves that even the new school bboys should be learning. It's almost like these guys are taking the piss. Respect to the Hodown event but the whole blue line and so called uprock is not impressive. IMO

  • ha i kinda know what you mean. rubberbandman and apache wouldnt approve of this battle

  • what is this? bboy arent allowed to cross the fkin blue line?! lol dang son, dope battle...

  • lmao my friend is down with zulu thats dope how they get big wierd chains and i meet bboy quick from zulu

  • I like their shoes :D

  • i want the song / .\

  • ITS really sad to see that even with the internet...people are not learning about style..the dancing reminded me of what people call northen soul dance style of uk back in the days of 1979...THIS IS SHIT..i hope to battle javier of house of ninja...i will watch the most videos before i come out to battle.

    KONW THE STYLE.

  • man cats dont even know about rocking nowadays

    bboys gotta bring it back

and BBOYS need to take out the BREAKERS

  • I could have not agree with you more my man, I am from the old school and I tell you the difference today is that there are a lot of breakers but not enough b-boys and these cats cant up-rock to save they life and I am 42 and I can still go hard. Peace ZULU NATION

  • damn hella reppin

    that was inspirational son aha

  • ANY 1 kno da name of this beat??

  • edwin starr - time

  • hahahahah sheet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • why ppl hate on toprocking and uprocking wen their not even a bboy..u only understand bboy wen u r one...boying is sumthing tht is sick and ill to us Bboy4Life

  • it's because everyone has been brainwashed by the gangsta crappers the industry is brainwashing them with. REAL hip-hoppers from the day (don't forget graffiti artists & DJs either... they're the other 2 elements) respect ALL of the b-boy elements: breaking, popping, locking & uprocking because of what they represent.

i like pissing gangsta crappers off saying "if you ain't b-boy, you ain't hip hop" because they're clueless to what it was really all about until rap & $ ruined everything by 1990

  • it call ROCKING bitch, and that wat all bboy do to express their feeling aight?

  • that jizzle hand sign was hilariosu lmao

  • something your rihanna mainstream dumbed down brain doesn't know. stick to your garbage and dont hate

  • Rocking an artform of dance that came on the scene in the early 60's in the streets of

Brooklyn and the boogie down Bronx. such Dances such as Bboying almong others came from this. And later was the start of hip hop culture. Now you can say "oh thats wack" by this is what true dance is if you can't understand this then you don't now anything about what real dancing is.

P.s remember that MTV is not the height of one's career.

  • hi 5

  • thanx bro

  • yea the beat has to stay old school .........cuz the beat is sick!!!!!!!

  • yo message me bak yo ........WATS THE NAME OF THIS SONG

  • name of the song is time by edwin starr

  • no the beats dont HAVE to be oldschool but if they are sick like time by edwin starr then thay should stay that way. anyway most new shit sucks. but there are exceptions.

  • and then laugh when they both smoke the shit out of you

  • Nah i rekon i could take em, on style prob not floor work

  • breakdancing is not all about 6-steps and flares dude....

  • sick

  • i dont get uprock battles

    they look pretty wack/boring

could someone point something out to me or elaboarate so i could appreciate it more?

  • uh how about the break "dance". uprock is put the "dance" in break dance. it's made up of burns or jerks. you see em all the time in battles but probably don't notice it's all uprocking. before breaking, there was uprocking. there's a rock steady crew inspired song called "uprock". apache created it in the 70's and now it's a part of breaking. it's all about history and respect. i guess that's the symbolism of uprock.

  • buzz... wrong...!! what u see bboys do in battles is not uprockin... rockin or whatever u want to call it... cuz remember this, bboying and rocking are 2 separate things... 2 separate dances...!! ure right on the rock dance comin before breakin did... becuz its what helped start bboying... and dont forget bout rubberband man (RIP) who... along with apache created this dance... here to correct and inform... peace...!!

  • right on beaniekapp. i just gave a skimmed version. rock and uprock are different. and chronologically, it was rock then uprock then bboying. and rubberband man was shot after he won an opponent's girlfriend right? RIP. so you know it was all a gang/street warfare thing ya'll. that's why attitude is a big thing with some bboys.

  • well actually rock and uprock are practically the same thing... its just different terms... like bboying.. breaking... etc. etc. just so u dont get confused... i was separating the lines between bboying and rocking... u got the chrono order right... as for rubberband man... i believed he got stabbed according to founder 1 of lil dave rockers... go to Tiny1Love youtube account... he has various interviews on how it really was... best to learn from actual rockers... not bboys...

  • uprocking can be included in a set or routine a bboy does. uprock purists r fked up.

  • yea they can and we dont mind it... its just that it wont be considered rockin... well more like i dont mind it... cuz i dont kno how the others would say bout it... otherwise talk to pjay71 on that debate... cuz i dont want to argue on the case of using rock in bboy sets... cuz people take shit the wrong way and get lost in mass confusion when it comes to terms... peace...

  • oh and by the way... im deephugz of Forever We Rock... along with rob nasty... rock bandit... wacko... raff... smokestaxx... and christina... so if anyone disagrees with us... we can direct you to the OG's and theyll say the same thing... im just gettin tired of reading posts of stuff that people dont kno what theyre talking bout... so hopefully me sayin this will be a direct method... oh and we kno hella hung... hahahaha...!!

  • I hate this footage cuz it was before I went to Brooklyn to get my foundation and format down. Most people love jerks n burns...Bboys like doin jerks n burns...But most bboys cant dance...when it comes to freestyle thats your own style dance...When you talk about burns n counters thats another level of the game. Thats when it becomes like chess...burns aint nuthin unless you got your style first! CHECK OUT MY CLIP ROB NASTY AT CASTLES... I think thats what ur lookin for!

  • hahaha...!! u tell em rob...!!

  • its fun learn how to do it and just bust it out on someone who knows how to uprock

  • not dat gd

  • yo! What is this song? cool~

  • Nice... looks like they were having fun :D

  • xkrazyaznkidd, koolaid1989, queenzfinezt89, STFU! Do you guys think you can rock better than what was on the clip if it was a whack battle? Judging by looking at your pages, y'all get a boner on by power moves only less than dancing.

xkrazyaznkidd, this ain't no 'Rock Steady' bboy uprock battle you douche bag.. This is the REAL SHIT of ROCKING you little aZn kid, REAL SHIT SON!

Like deecent1 said & I quote again, "STUDY YOUR HISTORY PEOPLE!" Ya dig?!

  • heyo mark the funny thing bout this battle is that rob didnt like his performance here... i think he hated the song too... hahaha...!!

  • loooks amazing;) can anybody tell me that song name:)

  • time by edwinn starr

  • It's funny because a majority of the people here don't even know what Uprock really is. Like Deecent said, STUDY YOUR HISTORY!

  • ...that was pretty sweet.

  • yall ppl gotta under stand that these ppl have been breakin 4 a long time rob nasty's in forever we rock and foots iz in dynasty rockers. those ppl will school all of you in wut rawkin really iz.. so b4 yall start talkin sayin that battle wuz wak, studie ur history..

    no disrespect

    Deecent Rawk

    Funk Addictz Crew

  • wack battle.

  • that line is gay. they needa take that shit out and let them get all up in their faces. REAL SHIT.

  • sorry but that was weak...i think hella hung could do better! type in hella hung you'll see what I mean

  • looks like u dont kno what ure watching... its coo... and just to let u kno... we kno hella hung... me and rob nasty are also part of his crew... HUNG DYNASTY...!! hahaha...!!

  • Next time whoever is video taping this you HAVE TO HAVE THE 2 DANCERS IN ONE SHOT at the same time. The LINE IS CALLED APACHIE LINE ghet to know Rocking this is not TopRock(or topstyle).Good batlle .............

  • does any one know the named of the track

  • Time by edwin starr

  • and yea... rob and foots tore this song up... hahaha... much respect to foots... your freestyles are crazy man... cant wait to see footage of the rock bandit... yall should anticipate for that... hahaha...!! peace...!!

  • its called an apache line. i seen dude crossed it more than once, that should mean instant disqualification.

  • imo you always have to change the rules a bit to make it competition friendly. I mean I'm sure both competitors would have loved to just take that "taped line" off and just do it raw on the street. But hey its a comp with rules so you have to compromise. Props to both...keep this dance alive yall.

  • Man this would be one hell of a battle if it wasn't for the line. New school rules are taking the realness and rawness of bboying out. Stuff like the line just takese away from the dance n culture and excitement

  • wrong this is not bboyin... this is the rock dance, uprock, rockin... or whatever who likes to call it... and just to let u kno... the line IS part of the dance for rockin... just here to correct... peace...!!

  • Nice!!

  • wut the fuck is up wid that line.. the fuck... how do u fuckin battle like that hahaha.. these new rules n shit r gettin outa hand

  • new rules? bro the line has been apart the rockdance since jump.

  • rob nasty killed it...his burns were on point especially that clock shit hahaha

  • hells yea!

  • but im pretty sure rob nasty is

  • should have used original sound track, so we can tell if they rocking it to the beat!

  • this is the live track from the event... and i do think rob rocks it

  • my pc aint streaming fast enough

  • how can you not tell that they rocked that?!!?!?!?!?????
