@greatvideosABC Mark Whitfield. I don't know anything about the guitar itself, but he can make it sing. Really nice guy... he took Chris' picture with me once in an airport in SLC. :)
@greatvideosABC It looks like a Zimnicki guitar--bad ass custom made. That is if I'm correct--not sure. Pause it at 2:55 and try to read the brand on top.
@TheRc0211 It's a Harmon Mute. Jazz standard, it gives the trumpet a 'wah wah' sound when used. Chris' own music compositions like 'Venice' are copyrighted 'Muted Music'. :) It's a standard with him, and creates a wonderful sound on Hallelujah.
@crowderfan10 ...Singer Rufus Wainwright had briefly met Jeff Buckley and was struck by the singer, recording a tribute to him after his 1997 death. That song, "Memphis Skyline", referenced Buckley's version of "Hallelujah", which Wainwright would later record, though using piano and a similar arrangement to Cale's. Wainwright's version was featured on the album Shrek: Music from the Original Motion Picture, although it was Cale's version that was used in the film itself.[9]
@crowderfan10 From Wikipedia: "Hallelujah" is a song written by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, originally released on his studio album Various Positions (1984). Achieving little initial success, the song found greater popular acclaim through a cover by John Cale, which later formed the basis for a cover by Jeff Buckley. In recent years several cover versions have been performed by a large number and broad range of artists, both in recordings and in concert.
I agree, it does have a different style of jazz. I think it's the style of Chris botti(: because he didn't play but 2 or 3 of his own songs in this concert. The best example is "Flaminco Sketches" by: miles Davis. Though it still has the same notes Chris botti makes it sound different. I don't know how he does it, but he has some serious talent.
I love the way the guitar echos throughout the concert hall. Just beautiful, I get chills. My friend dosen't like jazz music and I just don't see her side of it.....I think that there is nothing better. This song is a great example. Originally it isn't a jazz song. But put into this format it is better than the original. I love my friend for who she is but I just cant let go of my love for jazz, or chris botti. (:
@ecsisof3 I don't like alot of Jazz either, but I like this album/concert Chris Botti did as its a different style of jazz. It depends how good the players/singers are and how they play. This is peaceful, simple, yet has a unique style to it making it less like hard fast more modern jazz more like orchestral music or a ballad
when i listen to this.........all my troubles and fears go away. for those few minutes I'm lost in a sea of serenading notes. its just me and the music surrounding me.
Its true, the simple things are the best things in life.
this clearly demonstrates the inherent beauty in simplicty. beautiful, beautiful playing by both chris and mark. my only gripe is, i wish they played another 5 minutes!!
On the one hand, I want to hear Botti solo - the film noir smoke in his horn is the stuff of dreams; on the other hand, he is the master at melding his sound with others.
great performance of the song, brilliant concert, i have seen Chris Botti last year in Newport jazz fest, and the heart is still vibrating ;) by the way, HELLO FROM SLOVAKIA :)
That's what everyone should aim to sound like. Playing high is cool, but not if you can't do it in tune and with a good, clean, full pitch. This is how a trumpet should sound.
Great Song, classic feel

@greatvideosABC The guitarist is Mark Whitfield, and he plays a Marcchione jazz guitar. Chris Botti has a harmon mute in his trumpet.
