Porn was illegal many years ago. But the pornography laws were challenged in courts and it became legal. But no one will speak out for prostitution except may be pimps and prostitutes. Actually, prostitution in and of itself isn't illegal. The trouble prostitutes get in is because they are creating a public disturbance. This is why 'escort services' (newspaper ad prostitutes) are not illegal... it's private, and doesn't really affect the public. Actually, prostitution in and of itself isn't illegal. The trouble prostitutes get in is because they are creating a public disturbance. This is why 'escort services' (newspaper ad prostitutes) are not illegal... it's private, and doesn't really affect the public. A hooker on the street does affect the public... for example "Mommy, why is that lady dressed funny?" is a question that parent's shouldn't have to explain to an 8 year old.
But selling sex is legal, not to say it's ethical.

See in Porn it's public (mostly) it can be sanctioned by government. Safer sex practiced, in private immoral practices like rape might happen, government can make money from porn through taxes etc. Better to know the devil.
Ooh and porn is people fucking watched by hundreds of thousands, and prostitution is actually going out and doing fucking by oneself. Porn is as such the lesser of two evils.

Your point is maybe too simplified. Yes, both involve sex and money, but their aim is different. Prostitution is strictly for the client's physical sexual gratification. The prostitute is sleeping with him (usually him) so he can get his rocks off. Pornstars sleep with each other for the sexual gratification of people watching: not the actors they're having sex with. A lot of male pornstars have a very unemotional approach to their jobs.

I think there are some core fundamental similarities, yet there are more complications when one is charging to use someone's body in such a forceful and selfish way.
Pornography is a staged and pre-set fantasy, while paying a prostitute for sex is real, very real, and as such there are many risks. You can't get an STD (nor can someone accidentally become pregnant) from watching an erotic movie clip by themselves.

Porn is a form of art, and as such it's protected as a form of expression. Prostitution while probably shouldn't be a crime in a free society, society has deemed it to be an illegal act because it may damage and degrade a section of the population, and foster other crimes. While this may be also true of porn, it really simply comes down to one is art, and a form of expression, and the other isn't, and so one is protected and one isn't.

Well, from what I know, being a sort of young teenager, that I am sure that the reason Prostitution is illegal is because well... You spread annoying infectuous STDs. Most porn stars will get smart and check their actors for STDs and allow ones that aren't STD infected and sometimes there are just sites where it's just a girl getting naked, so there's no problem with that.

There was a case where they tried to prosecute porn as prostitution, the legal difference is the person paying the actors cannot participate in the act (I know this thanks to comments from Edward Tabash on the "Truth Driven Thinking" podcast Tuesday, first uploaded on October 10, 2006). I guess it's all shielded through corporate entities w.r.t. payments.

the diffence between porn and prostitution are the regulations involved. Most porn workers are STD tested and cleared of major infections before they ever have sex. sometimes it does infact get over looked and viruses are spread but on a much lesser then having sex with a prostitute -
