Just becasue you're driving on a a soft sandy road doesn't mean it was once "under the ocean." The sand is just the weathered product of the (probably) granitic rocks comprising the surrounding uplands, which was transported by streams at some point in the past. Sandy surfaces are common where granitic rocks are present; particularly in arid or semi-arid areas. The individual sand grains are probably quartz particles, one of the components of granite, and a very durable mineral.
Love the roar of those chevy 350's...and I miss that country...Been to that airea..Don't know about coyote flats...Coyote springs maybe..And Bishop yea...Hiked over Bishop pass and down into Kings conyon...Many years ago...LOL
But.... you're on the WRONG side of the Sierra Nevada! :-) As for the sand, certainly the area was under the ocean but much of that sand came from erosion of the Sierras. I suppose I'll never be in that area again--- thank you for the view.
My greatest regret is that I have never been everywhere and seen everything: there are so many places in the USA I would like to visit but can never do so.
Oh thanks. Sometimes driving vids can get a little old. I try to narrate the best I can but I'm not much of a speaker. Oughta try a Huell Howser approach LOL... Thanks again.
I punctured a side wall going around the fools who didn't want any help but 4 plugs took care of that. I have every tool known to man with me and a lot of spare parts. I can fix just about anything that might go wrong on the spot. I could have helped the guys who broke down but they are way too smart to need my help. ;)

Looks like a fun climb, with just a few challenges here and there. Probably NOT a good place to have a rock snag your oil pan...

You are right Moosie. Not too rough at all. But it's an old chevy. Tough oil pan... I should put a skid on it probably but I know how to drive it.

Yes... Not too big of one though. Maybe 8 to 10 feet max because of the switch backs on the way up.

That looks so desolate. I would take about five minutes of that and run for Kentucky as fast as my little legs could waddle.

"That looks so desolate."
There were times that it was so quiet that I could hear the blood pulsing through my arteries.
