  • The medals lose their charm (and dignity) being stored in a storeroom basement with gray file cabinets and treated like store storage room items. fail

  • MBE, OBE, CBE KBE are all laughable simply because they have the words "British Empire" in them.

    British Empire?? What British Empire!!!!!!

If it's an achievement award, then call it that and grade the damn achievments!!

  • @ALEKHINE1927 that is just the name of the order of merit. The order was founded in 1917 when the british empire still excisted

  • Very Interesting

  • wow, those shelves are older than i am

  • ...no ...England has no honor... hmmm... Braveheart took their honor... HA?! ...stupid limis... with their spies... and Russian prostitutes... aka spies... or vise versa... hmmm... something is going on between those two nations... or maybe... England and Russia is one and the same... and the Royal family are just Putins people... HA?!

  • what was that guys name at :26? "Jeremy Baggledpurrifolly?"

  • @DukeChild002

    Jeremy Bagwell-Purefoy

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh shiny lol

  • @leesetters Odd, considering the current monarchy is descended from James 6th of Scotland. It was theirs first!

  • What are the benefits of having a republic in the UK now? The Monarchy is merely a figurehead (a very important role though) and has little to no political influence. They do not cost the public much. Why bother fixing what ain't broke?

  • Does anyone think The clerk secretly when no one is around goes down there and pretends he is being given an honor and wears them for a minutes and parades around i would not be suprised if a few people do that or have done that

  • Insignia clerk looks so nervous!!!

  • I'm not socialist! I'm just against deferential creeps!

  • well they are hardly a threat and they are a testament to the fact that monarchy does not in anyway inpinge our right to freedom and politics

  • what was that in reply too?

  • Funny, I thought that voting was democratic.

Boccherini64 - I and many others are laughing at you and your comments it seems. If you have come in here to change our views then take it from me that it is not working.

Why not grab a soapbox and have an afternoon in Hyde Park and you can spout off all day and be ridiculed "live".

    Have a right Royal day,

    Graeme.

  • What an honor. I'd truly be shitting myself to be in her presence.

  • Boccherini64 - "Why it is that Monarchist are so uncomfortable with free speech and open debate when it comes to the royals" - I suspect people are just bored and "uncomfortable" with your endless, repetitive ramblings. You've made you're point - now piss off.

  • anyone know why the queen always pushes the receiver away at the end of her handshake?

  • @Ganbareg Yes it is to indicate to the reciever the coversation is finished and they need to move off !!

  • Well I enjoyed watching it, nice to see my monarchy up close!

  • What a bitter person you are. Celebrate an individuals accomplishments. You have no understanding of history.

  • ahhaha look whos talking oik, is ok

  • As a Senior Moderator in a UK forum I can now declare that these comments are now so off track that if I had the ability to lock the posts they would have been locked off 4 weeks ago.

These comments are supposed to be pertinent to the video clip on show not a debate on the British Monarchy.

Take your unwelcome comments and negativity elsewhere please.

    Graeme.

  • Great Video God Save The Queen!

  • What an ignorant, bitter and abusive comment. The Queen has given her life to the role she fulfills. It is a job to which she has brought great integrity and dignity. At over 80 years old she continues to represent our country with the utmmost dedication and devotion. She works hard, fulfilling hundreds of engagements at home and abroad each year. And on the issue of money, every country in the world pays for its head of state, be it a monarch or president, so why would we be any different?

  • you realy do show your ignorance, at her age she has to talk and debate national policy and other matters of state, the amount of work she does cannot be put in a comment box of 500 characters and she is not a parasite if you knew anything you would know that she actualy cost this nation nothing

  • most of the papers are run by the murdoch bunch and he is not pro monarchy,

  • i read the murdoch press i read the sun and the times and both are very criticle at times

  • the media report the popular view of the people republicans are a minority and so dont get as much coverage as a majority, it was reported in the telegraph that at the jubliy celebrations the rpublicans staged a demonstration outside buk palace all 13 of them

  • in the news world of papers the majority view is expresed, they pander to their readers views, the press has never been about free speech just selling more copies.

  • You're quite entitled to your point of view but why you have to express it in such an offensive way is a puzzle. Your comments reveal far more of the kind of person you are than ever they say about the Queen.

  • That's not at all true, the Crown Estate subsidises the work of the Royal Family and actually returns a profit for the Treasury!!

Her Majesty' Government in turn provides 9.8 million pounds per year to pay the wages of all the staff, estate costs etc. So in fact after the Queen has paid her taxes HM treasury makes a prfit from the Royal family!

  • if the queen did not exist there would still be people starving in afric the monarchy does a lot of chrity work and the queen pays her way and costs the nation nothing

  • well seeing as they pay for they can do what they want they give lots to charities and support to the devolping nations its not the rich of the west that are to blame it is the leaders of the poor that are one of the worst bunch of people, their are pleanty of rich people with planes private islands the fact that ours serve a real purpose shows they are very different

  • please point out the rubbish

  • what you wrote means nothing it does not point out what is so rubbish about the truth i speak

  • You're such an arrogant idiot, you have absolutely no appreciatio for the work done by the Sovereign. HM guides our democratically elected Governments through the most testing times.

Remember this: "The Power of Monarchy lies not in the power it gives the Queen, but in the power it prevents others having" (i.e. it prevents people like Hitler, Mugabe etc coming into power and forcing dictatorships on the people). The Queen is the supreme 'regulator' if you like. And she does a mighty fine job.

  • I firmly believe you have the right to your opinions, I'm simply saying I think you're wrong and backing that up with evidence. I never suggested that all presidents are dictators int he making (by the way, France has a slightly different system with a PM and President - though as in Russia the balance of power is shifting...)

The Royal Preorgative affords the Soverign a vast raft of 'reserve' powers - in fact it's only by convention that the Queen's powers are limited. Think Australia 1975..

  • the house of lords was fine the way it was, now it has become a real mess, it should be part appointed part elected and mainly herreditory.

  • the way it used to be was that people though in there because of their birth actuly had a brain in their head and were masters in certain feilds of knoledge and had no political bias, now we have a house of lords filled with people who are just the cronies of either the labour party or the conservatives, you have people in there now because of how much they give to the labour party or because they big companies, that is the biggest crime, you dont have to elect eveyone for it to be a good system

  • I think a herediatary head of state is more cost efficient and effective than an elected one. It provides untiy and continuity which a president cannot give. Would people flock to Buckingham Palace in times of crises if it were a presidential house? I think not.

regarding the Upper House: in my opinion an entirely appointed house , with appointments for life made by the Monarch and an independent Royal Commission and I'd remove all political parties to make all Lords entirely independent.

  • Well you have your opinion on the matter, I have mine. I really see no problem in having people born into power and yes I believe in deference to the Crown. I think we should probably leave it at that.

I'm sure you're a reasonable sort of chap - so I hope that we can agree to disagree.

  • i completely agree with you, monarchy is the definitive symbol of unity and continuity

  • the us is not more democratic then us, their system is not at all good, they have less representation than we do.

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!

  • thx a lot:)

  • Thanks Rupert for posting this on the very day that my wife received her MBE from Her Majesty, The Queen.

Thanks go to all the staff at Buckingham Palace who are the most helpful and professional people I have ever met in any "walk of life".

The funniest moment of the day, for me, was when I was asked to take a family photograph of the Beckwith family by Tamara herself!

I did not have a clue who she was!!!

    Graeme.

  • Hi Graeme - Your welcome. You could tell by the emotion in the gentleman's voice at the end, that it meant a very lot to him to get his MBE, as I'm sure it did to your wife.
