Maha, modern, standard hebrew has lost certain sounds it once had. Can you give a demonstration of what hebrew would probably sound like with those sounds back? (For example, the aleph and ayin are no longer pronounced, although they once were and probably sounded like their arabic equivalents.) Also, as someone who speaks both hebrew and arabic, do you think that the absence of these sounds has a deleterious effect on hebrew? Gracias.

I reckon Maha pronounced ע like Arabic ع in at least one of her videos. Notice that ע in Hebrew corresponds to not only ع, but also غ in Arabic.

א in Hebrew is supposedly to be pronounced more like Arabic hamzah, though in many cases pronouncing א like hamzah would make it sound unnatural. E.g. הוא & היא would sound like huʔ & hiʔ. I don't think even Yemenites do this.

@missbutter81 I didn't they Arab Jews have to conform to the "standard", "modern" Hebrew. If anything, since the language has been resurrected, I think an attempt should be made to resurrect as close to a full pronunciation as possible.

Does contextual confusion occur more frequently in Hebrew than in Arabic? In Spanish, Tengo trienta años (pron. ahnyos), means: "I am 30 years old." If Spanish lost the "y" sound, then años would be pronounced like anos. And tengo trienta anos means, "I have 30 anuses." Loss of one sound would thus affect meaning.
