The sound tells you how fast that gun fires. like 2 seconds you see the rounds hit the ground or see the smoke from the gun, you hear the noise. Man I love this plane. My favorite of all military aircraft. why would the air force want to retire this plane?!

My family moved to Barnegat back in the 80's and we'd hear the sound of the gun and wonder what the hell it was, found out about a year or 2 later. Also used to have the C-130's and 141's flying over the house on the way to do practice drops. Now if the F-16's would stop messing the place up by straifing schools and burning half the pines down, the range would rock.

@roguelead72 i remember seeing F16 parts raining down near the parkway when a pilot ejected once ! seen this happen twice ,once in korea too,that one was real close ,we found the canopy remains in the woods

@daewooparts They had an F/A 18 attempt to land at Cape May airport once, pilot ejected right before the plane went through the fence and exploded in the woods across the highway. Someone made off with the ejection seat.

@roguelead72 got the F16 K canopy , its used to start our tomatos in korea ,people get a good laugh at it ,they never bothered looking for it or collecting it ,the plane was complelely demolished as it went nose first into a field ,just missed a building and road ,the pilot did a great job as to guide it out from the main city though

i guess. in Iraq, even today, Iraqi kids playing in the wreckage of Iraqi T80's destroyed by DU rounds are exposed to Gamma radiation. Just because its depleted, doesn't mean its not radioactive.

Gotta love the A-10. It's not fast, elegant or high-tech - but it's all business and gets the job done with brutal efficiency. When you're a grunt under enemy fire, an A-10 swooping in to give air support has to be the most beautiful thing. And for those on the receiving end: tough luck sucker!

as far as I know it's a counter-measure against enemy ground-air defense. They attract enemy heat seeking missle's to the flares instead of the aircraft. though i could be mistaken

Yeh, it does sound a little funny but just imagine being on the wrong end of that dang gun! Still one of tt deadliest planes being used. Nothing fancy by any means, but this plane is absolutely terrifying, with good reason. Read some statisics on battlefield accuracy and reliability. It is simply devastating. Military wanted to scrap this plane till they were reminded of it's performance in the recent wars. Now it is gaurenteed to be flying till at least 2028. WARTHOGS rule!

Dude, Ive Seen them At Warren Grove. The Sound of that Gun is completely demoralizing to any one going against it. The 1st time your hear it in person you jump like 2 feet even though you are prepared for the sound. Wish they would reopen the range, It was closed due to a big forest fire last year. What an incredible Jet.

Supersonic bullets do give off a loud crack when they break the speed of sound, but the delay is simply caused by the distance between the viewer and the cannon.

That's freaking awesome. When I was in AFROTC at East Carolina University we used to go out to the Dare County Bomb range and watch them practicing strafing runs. Sometimes the Navy came by to practice SAM evasion with their F-14's. Good times.
