  • What is the advantage of stretching the PVC?

  • @mstk421 You want the float line to stretch to help reduce the ability of the fish to jerk the spear out. The Dyneema does not stretch. Thats why I put 125 feet of dyneema in 100 foot of PVC.

  • great instructional video.

and extra points for providing the sources for the materials

  • Hey great video I really think I am going to follow your steps and make my own and save some money! Speaking of which what was the total cost for all the parts required to make this float line? Did you save money or break even?

  • @Okinawapajero You should be able to make two for the price of buying one. So it is worth doing.

  • you sure this tube is made of pvc? it looks really flexible, just like it was a silicone one...

  • What are the plugs on each end called? I cant seem to find them on berkeleypoint.

  • @Breathlesssight The plugs are from neptonic systems. They are just called float line plugs and can be found in the float-line supplies area.

  • could a regular rope attatched to the gun work?

  • @BigRoblilG as long as the rope floats.

  • thanx mate big help, and well explained and a very simple way to splice the spectra.

  • Great video! One question does your float line floats?

I'm from Portugal and i both one from Picasso but it doesn't float and i want to know to see if i have a problem with my float line.

    Thanks.

  • @crazyyy24 Yes it floats

  • OK that means that my float line have a problem :( !

    Thanks.

  • yep ... it is not dyneema ... and it is much better if u can finish it with constrictor knot.

    But, good video.

  • Clever videom mate well done!

  • thats not dyneema

  • wait i'm a little confused.. i understand that the pvc tubing can stretch but once you put the line inside, wouldn't that make it so it couldn't stretch?

  • @bandanagang The PVC is 100 feet long the dyneema is 125 feet long It collapses in the pvc when you stretch the pvc over the dyneema thus allowing 25 feet of stretch.I hope this helps.

  • thanks alot for the video, great idea saved alot of money floating line is just becoming to expensive.

  • @jalex1995 You can save even more money if you use a different line other than the spectra, the spectra was the most expensive part. And is way over kill for most spearfishing needs.

  • Hey man great video...you kind of lost me on the splicing part..i dont know howyou got to bunch up the rope...could you explain a bit more? who tying a regular fishing knot be strong enough??

  • Very nice

  • Thank you. You are right a constrictor knot would be a good knot to use for securing the ends. I guess I took the easy way out, I had the cable ties and it was fast. I am not worried about the PVC coming off it was hard getting the tubing on the plugs and the cable tie fits perfectly in the groove on the plug.

  • Very nice job! Love the splices. I would have thought you would use a constrictor knot instead if the cable ties.
