  • I love this version to pieces. The other guy singing with Jeff is a songwriter from New Zealand named Chris Knox, who has had material covered by Jeff Mangum.

  • who's the singer with the british accent?

  • The Beatles = Jeff Mangum

You disagree, you don't know SHIT about music.

  • this is better than the original

  • I dont like the beatles, but I do like this

ps dont hate on me for not liking the beatles (i do like revolution 9)

  • @GradeSchoolRecords not everyone can love the same band in the whole world lol

    it's okay, hehe

  • @GradeSchoolRecords you dont know shit about music then

  • This cover is interesting, and I certainly admire Jeff Mangum a great deal (as much as John Lennon in many ways), but I think what is so impressive about Lennon's version of this song is that it the emotional intensity--the screaming and such--was so precisely refined. In this version, they seem to sort of be just screaming to scream. Seeing as it was such a personal song to Lennon, I just don't buy the emotion in the same way. Certainly worth listening to, though.

  • i love it, very penid.

  • Oh, man.

    Even though it's so ear-wrenching.

    So insanity-inducing.

    So confusing.

    So vile and putrid.

I didn't want it to end.

  • motheeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrr aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh ahhh ahhhhh!!!(8)

  • i love NMH but i feel that they should respect the fact that this song was increadibly personal to john lennon. this song was talking about john lennon's experience loosing his mother and never knowing his father. i don't know, i just feel its a little shallow is all.

  • @Crouchosarus

Yeah, what a fag, getting shot. He totally just got murdered by a psychopath for attention.

  • @Crouchosarus dude, even if you didn't like John Lennon as an artist you could at least respect him as a human being.

  • @Crouchosarus fuck you john lennon is a legend

  • fuck!

  • S'ils avaient pris la chanson au sérieux, ca aurait été éblouissant.

  • um maybe you should credit Chris Knox here dude?

  • Is Chris Knox on this track? It sounds like him talking during the beginning.

  • yes

  • @andrewhein Yup, it was the NMH show in New Zealand, Knox was also there.

  • @andrewhein

    That would be righteous.

  • this is awesome! hhahaha.. lovely.

  • this is hilarious!

  • rofl jeff sounds ridiculous in the end...

  • anything they do is amazing ..

  • Ditto

  • Yeah... I mean it's funny anyway. It's great to hear them having fun, but it's pretty rubbish when you come down to it.

  • I'm quitte sure that's much of the idea behind being "lo-fi". You know what they say about "shitgaze": It's just like shoegaze, but sounds shitty.

    Thanks for the comments

  • Completely agree.

  • This is so great.

  • So true, it's a killer version.

  • Yup, and the very last song "they" (Jeff Magnum it is) ever played as NMH

  • It's such a shame.

  • Sure it is just Magnum and Knox, but despite not being billed as NMH, this track comes from the "When it all caved it" bootleg, which is regarded as the last Neutral Milk Hotel concert ever.

  • This is Jeff Mangum and Chris Knox
