Great parody! I especially like Andy Dick's Adam Clayton impersonation. What's odd is that U2 self-consciously created a parody of themselves starting from the ZOO TV tour, and were constantly spoofing their own fame and personalities. Then Ben Stiller does the same thing, and Bono actually gets mad about it! Very silly...you should never play into a satirist's hands like that. Just grin and bear it!
These Ben Stiller show U2 parodies were SO great, I love U2, but I have a buddy who is absolutely RABID about anything U2. I showed him these skits and he actually got pissed. LOL!
The Ben Stiller show was one of the best sitcoms shows ever. Just great, brilliantly done parodies of the early '90s pop culture. I used to love watching this show & was sad when it got cancelled after such a short run.I bought the entire series on DVD.
You kids watching this don't have a clue about the real genius or joke behind this entire sketch. The old dude being interviewed about Bono is "Mr. Kinkaid" from the Partridge Family! Ring a bell anyone? Probably not 'cause no one's old enough to remember that far back. Good job Stiller, subtle but nice touch on the faux albeit somewhat realistic documentary/interview!
Ben Stiller, Andy Dick they both got famous off this show.. how do you think we know their names today.. but yea i just found out myself a year ago.. lol
Oh, yeah, The Ben Stiller Show was awesome. Watching it back when it was still on network was like being in on a little secret. Janine Garafalo (sp?) got her start on TBSS as well. Check out the "Cops in Ancient Egypt" sketch over in the Rel. Vids section.

My brother Matt says that groups like u2 who sell out to evil, fat cat corporations like Blackberry, for tour sponsorhsip, ought to shampoo his crotch...

Your brother Matt bark up the wrong tree apparently if he's on the hunt for serial sponsorship abusers. U need to help him wash his crotch since u listen to his rubbish so often...
They were mocking the breakfast cereal Lucky Charms, so I think it was more important to use a C to start the second word, so the box looks more similar to the actual cereal. They weren't just saying "These things are clovers," they were just calling it Lucky Clovers, though it was the same contents as Lucky Charms.
OMG Ben Stiller is hilarious!! these skits had me on the floor, I was literally crying at his skits, truly one of the funniest comedians to date. blue steel baby!!!

Your post is 3 weeks old, but just in case you never found out, this episode ran in 1992.
The series itself ran from September of '92 to January of '93. There were 12 episodes shown (the 13th is on the DVDs), it had terrible ratings not helped by awful time slots, but did win an Emmy for writing.
"...he's very materialistically oriented you know, and thats not U2's all about,
you know, were not about the glitz and the glamour, the money and the fame and the power and the touring and the money.... well maybe we are about that a little bit but...
well worth it and seriously discounted. You can see the influence of this show even today. Even though Janeane credits Mad TV as being great which it is overall, when you only have 13 episodes, the pacing and the urgency seems to be bigger and brighter than when you have 13 seasons.
one of the funniest sketches ever made in my opinion. I actually watched the Ben Stiller Show when it was first aired on Fox and it was very underated. I was pissed when they cancelled it after only twelve episodes. You can actually find used copies of the Ben Stiller Show Box set on Ebay for less than ten bucks plus a few bucks shipping and it is well worth it.
This was hysterical! I can't believe I didn't know this existed until now. Wow, they really went all out with the details--the scar on Bono's chin, the bison! Too funny. The leprechan had me rolling.
Lol, amazing how much details that was put into this, I'm impressed :D I don't find U2 parodies so often eventhough it's a excellent band to do parodies of.
I'm an old (28) fan of U2 and I always believed Bono to be sincere but I could/can still see he had/has Helluva ego.
Remember he said in an interview that he used to envy people with lot of money, so now he's happy XD
i just think it's interesting that they didn't realize that U2 were all about irony and mocking during the 90's. that was the point of flashing subliminal messages on the screen...it was social criticism intermixed with real truths. It wasn't just about making money. but whatever. haha it was funny none the less.
Heh, I forgot that Danny Bonaduce and Dave Madden were in this. Who would have guessed that Mr. Kinkaid managed both the Partridge Family *AND* U2!
Another nice detail: Remember how so many music videos of the early '90s would flash the lyrics (and other seemingly random words) on the screen? That got old real fast.
Bono doesnt even have an accent any more, hes spent so much time in any other country other than ireland its just disappeared. that was pretty funny. Bonos the man!
Omfg, this is great.. The way he just sits there, with a massive ego next to that tiny lightbulb...

Well, this impersonation is kind of talentless.
The problem of Stiller is that he believes that he's versetile and capable of imitating of anyone he wants. But he's not, sadly.
And, BTW, those days U2 were much less commercially oriented than in 2000's.

As far as an Irish accent, Bono barely has one. Having relatives in Dublin I know that if the majority of the words spoken are understandable for an American then it's not a true Irish brogue.
