  • I'm pretty sure Pearson broke his leg in this wreck. I think that's all that happened besides him being knock out from the impact. I know it's hard to stop a racecar with only 6 seconds notice, but the reaction time doesn't get much better when the drivers are like 70.....

  • Dang, hard hit, that has to hurt

  • ooohhffff!!!!! that's going to leave a mark, and i dont think a couple of asprin is going to help that much......

  • 3400lb sledge hammer in 3...2...1

  • At 0:05 It Gets HORRIFYING!

  • Did He Die?

  • That's weird. It looks like the Wood Brothers 21 car, but it's a Chevy. They're big Ford people.

  • @SkynyrdnNASCAR You got the wrong """series"""... That's a charity legends race, it's not a sprint car race or a nationwide race... The 21 car is Charlie Glotzbach aka "Chargin' Charlie" and "the chargin' comet", which was a crysler driver in the time of the aero warrior... I guess the 99 was taken, so he jump with one old number other than the 0.

  • @therrydicule Larry pearson was in the 21

  • anybody have the finish to this race?

  • Stop at 0.05

  • I was there all u heard were gasphs than silence

  • kinda looks like Buren Skeen's fatal crash in 1965 at darlington

  • Me: well that wasnt so bad... BOOM

  • This was the legends race

  • @009brock not nationwide??? its the K&N pro series

  • @daveyAWS you both are stupid its a late model

  • @dager8810 why the hell would they be showing late models on tv dumb ass??? and larry pearson use to race K&N pro series go look it up bud

  • @daveyAWS the cars on the youtube video are late models

    your the dumb ass

  • @dager8810 and tell me how you know this

  • @daveyAWS because I watch short track racing every Saturday night

  • @dager8810 o so since you watch it every saturday night means you know everything about the differences between K&N and Late Models

  • @daveyAWS i know that looks nothing like a k&n car they k&n look more like old nation wide

  • @dager8810 Davey is right the K&N pro series car looks like the nationwide car and these are late models look them dumbass.

  • @KodiakRacer25 that is what i'm trying to tell him its a late model you fucking idiot

  • @dager8810 no it's a usar pro cup car they got bigger motors than latemodels

  • @daveyAWS go here -/watch?v=86ONWZLprcQ&feature=related

  • thats my brithday race

  • Driver's side alway's a problem, At Least they got more room in the Car.If it where say Early 90's He would have been pretty fucked up!

  • @MrHideyoursheep He was seriously injured and I don't know if you knew this or not these were not the COT...These were the old cars and these were the old timers racing....

  • @UserExperienceWorks Yes, I did know that because I watched the last year's race on TV. The cars built in today's world have more room. And alot more saftey.

  • @UserExperienceWorks I'll give a great example of a (NEAR) fatal driver's side Impact. Bobby Allison's Horrid wreck at Pocono. Met his son Davey in Feb of 1992 a real class act.

  • Glad to see he was able to survive that.

  • @editking2 he had to go to the hospital it lasted about 20 to 30 mins for him to get out of the car. but yes he was fine

  • I looked away

  • I have to ask, why does your description say Mr. T? Lol

  • now that was a hardhit

  • charlie bit my finger, car edition

  • Me at 0:04 - "What's so horrifying about that?" At 0:05 - HOLY SHIT!

  • what series is this

  • I don't know why they had to cancel this event. the cars didn't look safe to start with. if it was a safer car, none of this would have happened.

  • @paulsack21 these are pretty safe cars actually its like a typical car you see at tracks every fri and sat night old guys dont yeild to there spotter or somthing stupid like that thats when it gets dangerous there not cup cars OMG there not safe shutup and learn somthing

  • i think we have proof that bristol is one of the fastest tracks

  • I think Larry SHIT HIS PANTS here. Not exactly life threatening. :-D

  • according to officials he was knocked unconcious (sorry if its spelled wrong)

  • 5 years ago he wulda died

  • He was in ICU, I'm pretty sure. That in itself says it was life threatening injuries, this making it near fatal. Anyway, luckily he did survive and pull through, so I guess that's all that matters.....

  • i remember this

  • Why senior citizens shouldn't be allowed n Nascar!

  • John Nemechek fatal crash wasent that bad i think so i guess larry pearson is a very lucky man

  • @ViiT4LG4MiiNG John Nemechek's crash was in 1997,Before they had the HANS device & Other stuff,I Think NASCAR made the cars more safer for this race, because their all seniors

  • I was there in turns 1&2 and can tell you that EVERYONE thought he had died in the stands. The sound of that wreck was INSANELY loud. (You can tell how serious I am by how I capitalize the serious parts.) We never saw him get out, saw workers waving frantically for help, David Pearson retires from the race, it looked VERY bad from the stands perspective.

  • What series is this?

  • @MrTadpole77 its not a series, once a year at bristol some former drivers race there after the nationwide race, i guess for charity...

  • @tsharpmac420 and also got beat up by childress to

  • Wow I was about to vote down because at first you think its a guy spinning and hitting the wall! I didn't see that race! Was he okay?

  • @kylerowdybusch yea, he had multiple surgerys he was on nascar now last year hes still pretty fucked up......ps kyle busch is gay for setting a great example for younger kids on the approriate speeds to drive on the open road and bc he sucks dick

  • @tsharpmac420 Yea, WELL LOOK WHO WON LAST NIGHT! SUCK IT SUCK IT SUCK IT!!!!!!

  • @kylerowdybusch I didnt say anything about his driving skill, he races in cup with the best of the best. Only a moron would take a statment about kyle buschs love for sucking fat nig dick as an assualt on his driving skill

  • @kylerowdybusch typical kyle busch fans to busy blowing nigs to actual understand why people dont like him, its not because they think he sucks at racing its bc he sucks dick

  • @kylerowdybusch Wheres that Championship for the Sprint cup........................Nationwide is not Sprint cup sorry Kyle Busch hasn't either ever in his career finished in the top 5 of points..PATHETIC

  • jesus christ, its like two icecreams smahing each other! all smushey...

  • OF COURSE ITS NEAR FATAL! i dont care if he just had a bruise, do you know how many racers have lived through hard driver side door impacts? not many! thats near fatal in my book. it had the potential to be much more than a injured ankle

  • The crash looked like I could have been fatal. I'm glad he got away without too much injury. BTW, the title says "horrifying," not "near fatal."

  • Could have been so much worse. If that car had hit about a foot farther back on the car, the injuries would have been much more serious.

  • @CheesyGreenBison @ROBLOXdude95 Yes this was the "Nascar Legends" race at bristol not nationwides.

  • How is Larry doing right now? This was over a year ago. Is he doing ok?

  • Proud to say he was my drivers ed teacher. And yes, his injuries were life threatening all of you douche fucks. He almost died...

  • 21!!

  • if that was me i would die from excess load of shit

  • Wow, I didn't know Larry Pearson was still racing in 2010. I haven't heard his name in years. He must be getting pretty old by now.

  • Comment removed

  • @drpearson92 Wow I'm really sorry about your dad. I sincerely hope he fully recovers very soon

  • He had a lot more than an ankle injury. Still a horrible crash...

  • ARCA BRAKESSSSSSSS

  • this crash really was NEAR FATAL, if it was any harder of an impact one or both drivers would be dead right now. Larry Pearson was in the hospital for months after this... and the roll cage was literally wrapped around his body. It was pure LUCK that no part of the roll cage hit him or punctured him in a fatal way. Anyway, I can't wait until this event next year except I think it should be at Darlington. I love seeing these guys race.

  • @erasetoimprove I grew up watching Chargin Charlie Glotzbach race around the Louisville area. Frank Kimmel's dad, Bill Sr., used to have epic battles with Charlie. I can remember Charlie running a Hemi late model on the area quarter miles and Salem. Charlie was probably the most gifted driver we had from the area, and we had a bunch of good ones in the day. Harry Hyde was running cars back then, Jessie Baird drove for him seems like. I like to have shit when they wrecked, it looked bad.

  • Really though you have to think of his age and such. It was near fatal for him and bad crash.

  • I saw the Nationwide trucks there!

  • I believe the idea of near fatal comes from the high speed impact in the driver door

  • i think hes implying that it was near fatal because it was only inches from killing him.

  • i dont know you boys and your yank tanks lmao ive seen better in the car park lmao

  • I thought he was gonna be good but i saw that car come on the tv i saw fuck no. And then he got T-Boned. T-bones like that have injured so many drivers maybe even gotten killed from crap like that.

  • I think people are idiots. personally when I watched this and the commentators sounded so solemn and they kept going to commercial I believed he had died. I believed that when I saw the side collapse in on him.

In other words I had no problem with "near fatal" in the title. But it is over now. This race was awesome since Harry Gant, Cale Yarborough, David Pearson, and everyone was racing again. Very cool to watch them.

  • Excellent quality of the video!! 5/5!

  • @miles24fig seriously? I'am not fighting over this.

  • @miles24fig it can be, if it falls off

  • @miles24fig why are you calling dumbass to ampernergy327, you are a cock and small

  • @miles24fig ok well just to say u r a dumb ass he was out for along time nobody new if he was dead or alive so shut the fuck up

  • @cameron23231 ok bro that was a year ago im more mature now you dont need to tell me to shut the fuck up

  • I guess "near fatal" makes the crash sound cooler! Factualy, Pearson suffered zero life threatening injuries...

  • @waltsa200 So you call a part of his bone sticking out of his body zero life threating?

  • @waltsa200 When it happened it looked bad. i changed the title ok? lol I know a broken leg and ankle is no where near fatal. alright cya

  • @waltsa200 it could be if we talk about a femural bone fracture, which can cause femural artery rupture. this could be life threatening

  • @waltsa200 well on a driver side remember they used the cars back in the 90s a crash like that could had easily killed him from the driver side door

  • @waltsa200 you miss the point. This could have been fatal. He is lucky he didn't suffer any head or neck injuries common in hard accidents like this, Near fatal is another way of saying "lucky it wasn't worse" cause it could have been fatal easily if it went one way or another.

  • @ampenergy327 I heard of someone like TEN that had that from a go-kart flip

  • @ampenergy327 Of course! He could have just walked away... jeeeez (sarcasm)

  • @ampenergy327 actually yes. Depending on the bone. If My finger is broke, and sticking out of my finger. That is not something that would threaten the ABC's and my life. (

    airway, Breathing, Circulation)

  • @ampenergy327 no, thats just a broken bone

  • @ampenergy327 yeah... you dont typically die from broken bones...

  • @DavidOrtiz36 I don't really give a damn.

  • @ampenergy327 sucks for you... next time you break a bone your be the only fucking idiot to think your dying...

  • @ampenergy327 Well then you're just a hypocrite.

  • @DavidOrtiz36 it could've been life threatening because of his age. he is like 67 and any type of broken bone can have fatal consequences.

  • @malcolmyoungi i guess thats a reasonable statement, i retract my sarcasm

  • @DavidOrtiz36 if you dont set a broken bone correctly, the marrow can get infected. especially when its sticking out.

    definitely a life threatening injury

  • @fatriani these guys get paid a LOT of money for doctors and medical specialists... i dont think we can consider this possibility

  • @DavidOrtiz36

just saying that its possibly fatal. with all the fluids and oil and smoke in a wreck, you have to be very careful if you have a broken bone splintering out through your skin

  • @fatriani this is true, and i will concede to this argument that infection is a much bigger possibility with these surroundings, but even so... i still consider a broken bone, even a compound fracture, as non-life threatening if you consider the aid he is able to receive almost instantly. Even in the worst of situations i dont believe a broken bone can be fatal a majority of the time. Even a compound break.

  • @waltsa200 he is still racovering to this day

  • @waltsa200 you guys are idiots this crash nearly killed larry pearson

  • @waltsa200 Larry lost about 80% of his long term memory. Doesn't remember his early racing career.

  • he didnt die, did he?

  • I was in between turns one and two, saw this as well as on tv. Scared the heck out of me.

  • the car larry drove was not an old cup car it is a asphalt late model like those in ASA

  • i was at this race in the entrance of turn three i could see this crash very well everyone was so scared

  • i heard on NASCAR radio that Charlie said he never saw Larry until it was too late. He admitted that he had his foot to the floor and was full throttle when he hit him.

  • I was there on the front stretch. It was crazy. You could tell he was going to get hit from a big distance, Glotzbach didn't slow down or move at all.

  • @LinkMan20 At least they were both okay.

  • Was charlie not paying attention?

  • those fat fucks just walked i woulda ran as fast as i could to check if he is still alive

  • these cars look very unsafe

  • there normal latemodels, not built for these high of speeds

  • @EaAddict360

    their Hooters pro cup cars

  • @r32adt3db Near Fatal means close to dieing....

  • @ampenergy327 i forgot which one it is but trhat 21 car looks like a car in nascar but its late model =^D

  • @ampenergy327 but he wasn't close to dying, when i dislocated my finger the bone popped through the skin, but i wasn't NEAR DEAD. It even said that he was just knocked out.

  • i know. thats y old guys like this shouldnt race at all

  • im sure they had spotters but i dought it. if they had spotters then y didnt he go down instead of slaming right into the driver side. im just saying

  • @Keselowski12fan One - They had spotters

Two - Charlie Glotzbachs 70 years old and its been YEARS since hes raced and the reaction times aren't as good as they were back when he raced.

  • I'd be willing to bet that if it were a cup driver in a cup car he probably would have walked away from it relatively unharmed. I'm sure Larry Pearson's age had a lot to do with the extent of his injuries. Don't get me wrong, it was a nasty, nasty crash but let's be honest, old people break easier. Get well, Mr. Pearson.

  • I was there for this...the it was dead silent after the wreck.

  • i was at that race when charlie hit every 1 went like oh god

  • i was sitting in turn 1 and watched this happen live, very, very scary wreck.

David did pull off of the track under the red flag to go to the hospital.

us in the stands had very limited knowledge of what was going on/how he was. glad to see he is ok.

  • thats what you get bitch, be a better driver you fucking prick.

  • @kdog4791 If you're talking about Pearson, he had a left rear tire go down, nothing to do with driving.

  • @kdog4791 If you're talkin' about Pearson, he had a flat left rear, nothin' to do with driving.

  • @kdog4791 If you are talking about Pearson, he had a flat left rear, nothing to do with driving.

  • get well soon

  • Holy shit pause at the 6 second mark O_O

  • rick wilsons was running 120 mph i could only imagine how fast chargin charlie was going when he hit that driver door, one thing they didn't show you was charlie's car was on fire and they couldn't get the flames out...

  • the driver that crashed into him is so dumb

  • i had tears coming out of my eyes just waiting to see if he was ok

  • Time to call it guys!

  • i was really scared after he took that hit.

  • @75jimmie75 The thing that really scared me was the way the front of Glotzbach's car dug into the driver side of Pearson's car.

  • I thought he was dead when I 1st saw him take that hard hit.Glad to see he is doing ok.Scared me for a second.

  • Comment removed

  • Glad Larry is ok. It was a great race but they should take the 100 horsepower they added this year and put the engines back to last years config. Also these USAR cars should beef up the roll bars.

    Get Well Soon Larry!

  • @hioctanefuel48 I agree all the way with you

  • who won the race? my dvr missed the final 5 laps

  • @vsa2o Rick Wilson won over Phil Parsons.

  • Why don't they use composites and special foams in the doors like V8 Supercars/ rallycars and such ?!

  • @darkoneforce2 I'am sure they will. They won't let this go.

  • NASCAR COT have it also

  • @darkoneforce2 These are USAR Pro Cup cars. Most are used Nationwide series cars. Also I'm sure the owners of these cars did not bring out their best cars, the drivers were not fitted with the best seats, and the belts were installed half assed as is the case with most exhibition races like this. As hard as this hit was I don;t think foam would have been much help. I've been around alot of years and that's not bad in comparison to some T-bone crashes I've seen.

  • Im gonna be racing these cars now im scared to. lol lol

  • I thought it was all over for him. Glad to see he is doing ok.

  • @maybrook1 I thought so too.

  • i saw it in person, it was a heart stopper

  • my God... i hope Larrys ok.

  • @random9vids do u know that for sure?

  • He suffering a broken lower left ankle, right hand and pelvis

  • @Random9Vids Better then being dead.

  • This is why they're not going to have this race again next year, these men are 60-70 yrs. old and going 120 miles an hour. + When you get older your reaction time is slower! + why weren't there ANY spotters! How couldn't nascar have seen this coming!! Glad both men are.. a-ok

  • @pugpug12 There were spotters

  • @ampenergy327 oh there were. Well, they should have done a better job of telling people there was a caution! Whatever it doesn't matter. Larry is in bad shape. And we all (hopefully) hope that he makes a full recovery!

  • Comment removed

  • is larry okay or in criticle condition?

  • @sportsdud22 no life threatening injuries

  • UPDATE - Charlie Glotzbach listed in good condition. Larry Pearson undergoing evaluation. #BMS #NASCAR

Larry Pearson evaluation complete: Compound fracture of lower left ankle (requires surgery). Fractured pelvis, fractured right hand. #BMS

Surgery on Larry Pearson's fractured left ankle will take place tonight. No injuries were life-threatening. #BMS

these are tweets made by bristol just minutes ago

  • @HendrickFan2488548 thanks for the updates

  • Bristol Motor Speedway Twitter: Larry Pearson evaluation complete: Compound fracture of lower left ankle (requires surgery). Fractured pelvis, fractured right hand.

  • @nascar481000 Better then being dead.

  • holy s***

  • i also hope both are ok. the fact they were driving faster didnt bother me as much as the lack of safety. the open face helmets, no gloves for guys like harry gant, and who knows what other rules were laxed so to give the guys there old feel. i really hope they still have this race next year as it is a ton of fun. just prayin for pearson and charlie.
