  • my trinitron sony tv has the same problem many years ago and solve changing one chip (actually it has 17 years, and works ok) thanks for post this video :)

  • ya it is losing vertical deflection . heres how you fix it. pick it up and take the back cover off and take the back cover out to the curb

  • did you ever find out what was the problem with the tv, and how to fix it?

  • I had the Same problem with my trinitron, I just bought me another smaller tv (Element brand).

  • try to fixit it's a good tv, I have one... sorry for my bad english....

  • I think it's the CRT being very weak or leaky capacitors

  • I say vertical IC too. If you change it I think NTE 1788 will match. (TDA 8172) Less than $10.

  • The vertical ic has bad solder joints ,I have over 20 years fixing these things .This is a great set its worth fixing ,and will onlt take 5 minutes.

  • Thank you very very much. Did what you mentioned and it worked, so far. Had to Googled what vertical ic looks like, but found it and touched up. Yes, this is a very good set and worth trying to figure out what is wrong.

  • Mine just started blinking. Is it fixable?

  • I have a Sony Trinitron TV from 1995 that has been faithful to me but all of a sudden it worked fine and then I shut it off and now it does not come on again. No power what so ever. No sound. Any ideas? The plug is good.

  • Most likely a problem with the picture tube being weak or a problem in the auto kine bias (AKB) circuit or the power supply.

What happens is that the AKB thinks the tube isn't warmed up, so it keeps the picture blacked out until it thinks it's ready. Or, the CRT stays blacked out because of a problem in the AKB or its power feed.

The set may require professional diagnosis to determine the exact cauase but it may not be worth it, especially if the problem is definitely with the picture tube.
