European Cup 1970 - Leeds 0 Celtic 1. Celtic 2 Leeds 1. Sorry guys but fine team that you were you still couldn't match the Bhoys. Celtic 66-74 were Britain's finest.
@joemcm1976 I disagree completely. I suggest you take a closer look at Leeds' end of season fixture list for 69-70. You scored within the first minute at Elland Road, and only won at Hampden because Gary Sprake was injured after a heavy challenge from one of your lot, prompting him to be carried off, and the very inexperienced David Harvey to come on in his place. Ask yourself why Leeds lost the title, FA Cup and European Cup, all within a month after checking the schedule we had to play...
@LUFC1965to1975 I suggest you look at Celtic's fixture list as we played 2 games a week from February until the last league game of the season so fixture congestion is not an excuse. I suggest that you had another 89mins to score at Elland Rd and failed to do so. I suggest that Harvey was not at fault for any goals at Hampden and despite your lot trying to boot Jimmy Johnstone off the park you again failed and failed to win again. I suggest that you are talking mince and your team bottled it...
@joemcm1976 Two games per week... Once more, I suggest you check Leeds' fixture list towards the end of that season. It's common knowledge in those days that the best two teams in Europe were Leeds and Ajax. It's a great shame both sides never met in their heyday. Tried to boot him off the park? For his tricky footwork, he was a small lad, and could have easily been booted off the park. Madeley was not that type of player, so once more, you're talking a load of hash.
@LUFC1965to1975. Excuses seem to be the name of the game here. Celtic Euro Cup record- 67 winners,70 r/up,72&74 semis,69&71 quarters. What was Leeds record in the Euro Cup? Is that talking hash? I said 'tried' to kick Jinky but you couldnt get near him. Where do I mention Madeley? Was he the only player trying to tackle Jinky? I appreciate that you had a tough schedule but we had a tough campaign as well and when it came to the crunch we beat you twice! The Lisbon Lions would have destroyed you.
@joemcm1976 - Leeds were only in the European Cup twice in this era - 70 - semi final, and 75 - final, but robbed. Had it not have been for horrific refereeing decisions and blatent anti-Leeds bias from the FA we'd have been in it in 71 and 72. Scotland have always played second fiddle to the English top flight.
@joemcm1976 Celtic would have only had an average Rangers side to compete with whereas Leeds had Man United, Liverpool, Derby, Man City and Everton - all six sides within a shout of winning the title. Had you boys been in the English leagues you wouldn't have even qualified for the European cup.
@joemcm1976 - Leeds played 8 important fucking games in 15 days as the FA hated Leeds & offered no compromise! Celtic? LMAO! Good team yes, but Leeds competed in an era where Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man. Utd, Chelsea, Derby, Man. City, Everton all had their best or second best teams of all time. Individual results do not make a great team...stuff the 67 Euro cup that was Celtics finest hour...3rd division Colchester beat this Leeds 3-2 in FA cup...thus they were better than Celtic, eh?
In the Football of the 1970's first broadcast in August 1995, Emlyn Hughes said that he thought Revie was "Virtually money ruled", yet according to Tommy Smith's autobiography in 2008, that Hughes told him that a number Arsenal players were willing to throw a match for £50 a man, and Hughes was going to do so. If that is the case, pots and kettles come to mind.
Hughes knew nothing about Revie. If he really loved money so much, Don would have left Leeds when offered with big money moves to Sunderland and Everton.
20 years ago today Don Revie lost his battle with motor neurone disease and is still missed to this day, not only by Leeds fans but by football in general.
I have taken a bet at the beginning of the season (with my mad chelsea supporting mate)that Leeds will win League 1 by 10 clear points this season. I was drunk at the time !
Clarke: Modelled himself on Clough too much, and failed drastically, lost the confidence of players.
Eddie Gray: Not given enough time in the 1980's, we had the likes of Irwin, Seaman etc coming through the ranks, Bremner shipped them away. Shouldn't have.
Bremner: Did well, got us to the Play Off final, FA Cup semi final, time just ran out for him.
Also, did Norman Hunter ever go into management, or was that just assistant? Also, did Bobby Collins ever take over a club as manager?
Don't know about Collins or Hunter. You mention Bremner getting Leeds to Play Off final. When was this and against who ? I fear my memory is letting me down.
Brilliant video & brought back lots of memories. Gsry Sprake is a bit harshly treated. He did lose us the cup final and a few other games besides but I can remember some miracle saves too. There was one he did at the Baseball Ground against Derby and it was out of this world.
Great to see a time when players were allowed to tackle and when players didn't just fall over.
A brilliant brilliant team and manager. God bless all those who are gone and may those days come back again soon.
Was at every one of those games except man utd in 65 in the cup semi at Nottingham. Uncle would n't take me and I bawled for a week. 9yrs old. That team was and has been the great joy of my life outside of family and friends. There likes will never be seen again.
What a brilliant video, thanks for putting it up. Brilliant looking at the legends Revie helped create. There'll always be plenty of heart at Leeds United!
Revie's Leeds was the first of the modern day Super Teams
There record would have seen them propeled to the level of elite side if played in todays game
-Mud bath/frozen pitches,42 league games a season,1 sub a match and cup games that went from replay to replay, and we we're always still in there at the death
-I'd love to see how Scum/Chels/Arse would cope if the game was still like that
-No Chapions league in them days for "Non Champions" as second best was just that
I request the uploader to not allowed idiots and scummers to post on this video . Maybe you could constantly keep an eye on it and delete their inevitable stupid comments or you could just disable the COMMENTS section and give Sir Don Revie a peaceful memory in youtube :)
Wow! Amazing video, easily the best Leeds related one on youtube, superb!
And yes, that was against Chelscum in 1970 at Wembley, Jones made it 2-1 in the 83rd minute, Chelsea equalise in the last minute or so, then it goes to the infamous replay at scum trafford.
Revies Leeds were 2nd to none. They played the best football ever seen by any team. Only the ignorant will deny this.

Cornerforward 3 years ago
Other to Jack Charlton and perhaps John Giles (to an extent), none of these players ever really made in management. I wonder why ?

1987, vs Charlton. We lost 2-1 at St Andrews, Birmingham. John Sheridan scored for Leeds from a free kick to put Leeds ahead.
