Re: Obama/NASA: Read a little history. Ever hear of the Cold War? That's a large part of what THE RIGHT STUFF is about. 1961: The U.S. was the world's economic and military superpower, with the soaring economy to pursue space exploration and the national security incentive to keep ahead of the Soviet Union. Fifty years later, Obama knows that priorities are different. First things first -- jobs, infrastructure, tax reform. He's not giving up on NASA, but there are more pressing concerns now.
Many thanks for locking and loading this recording of Conti's excellent score. One of these days when I win Powerball I'll be able to afford to buy the CD! Seriously, thanks for sharing.
@huntingtonfats No Obama bashing intended here, but good old fashion complaining about the current man in chief. "No bucks, no Buck Rogers" is the saying. And Obama is the man who CURRENTLY is in charge and spending a whole lot of those bucks on who knows what.
After seeing this movie, i really wanted to grow up during this time. Us Americans really built these incredible machines to leave Earth for the first time and it was something new. There isn't any type of thrill like that these days. Especially when we don't even have a space program... (come on Obama, really. We're falling back on technology)
@leylandcarsloverslea NASA annual budget; $17.5B Afganistan war budget $122B. The US simply cannot afford to fight a stupid war and fly in space at the same time. That's why Project Constellation was canceled. It's a damn shame but not Obama's fault.
@huntingtonfats you are making a good point, though also, the Obama Administration started out with a $787 Billion failed "stimulus," and to add a looming Trillion plus increases in spending for a centralized healthcare system....Government waste is sickening across the board with defense and domestic spending from each political party. And I am sad to make this discernment that the American people haven't been willing to strongly go into space ever since the end of the Apollo program.
@leylandcarsloverslea great movie... Us Americans got beat into space as we were too cautious in 1957. The Russians wanted to make this a race and we rubbed their face in it later
@irish89055 Well actually the Russians have the last laugh - because they are the ones left with a viable space programme! But onto other things...did you see the programme over on the NASATelevision site "50 years of American manned spaceflight in Orbit" - it was an awesome documentary? Although I had loads of trouble trying to work out the time difference and whether it was local time to the States etc but NASA were terrific in helping me out so I could see it!!

One of the last great American pictures. Sadly John Barry never got to finish his score for this film.

Don't turn this into a political debate page just because I mentioned Obama.

why turn this into Obama-bashing? Sounds like Fox News talking to me.
