Firstly its "JAK" as "JAKOVLEV" we also dont call hurricane "harykain" so learn names you monkey a,sses, and secondly.. can anyone tell me what sort of fake "back stab" meant? how fake? what fake? fake is back stab someone.. hahaha
k it may have been further away from the ground than we can tell but even the announcer stopped talking. shouldnt that tell you something? or maybe im just dim...
It's real. This was at Andrews AFB at the Open House back in 2004. I was sitting right in front of the Snowbirds when it happened. Nobody seemed to notice but the announcer and a lady sitting next to us who screamed. Think there was a dip in the runway there. Lucky dude. He didn't get his pull in until VERY late. There was actually vapor coming of the wing tips.
I don't think that's real guys. Looking at the trajectory of the aircraft that pull out was impossible. He'd have a big sink rate trying to go from straight down like that to a pull out. And if you watch it frame by frame it seems unrealistic there. And it kinda looks like he hits the ground but i think it wopuld have done more damage if he did.
@yaayahr He didn't stall, just made a balls of the barrel roll (tried to knock it off half way through 'cos he knew he didn't have the height) and power in the stall wouldn't have helped in any sort of 'nose-down' attitude, it would only increase his height loss. Not to mention any adverse effects of a power-on stall, I'd say he was pure lucky and hit ground effect before climbing away. (That said, it looks like he may have even touched the ground during the recovery)
There's been more than one pilot that mis-judged that manuever. You can stall at any speed/angle of attack...too low and too much pull-back on the stick and you get a stall and a pancake with the ground. That's also why you have to get an FAA waiver to do aerobatics below 1500 AGL.
How he didn't bend his prop to hell and gone I can't figure out. Unbelivable!! He must he had to change his shorts after. watch "The Great Waldo Pepper" for a good flying movie.
The dude commenting at the show pauses when he realises this might get ugly, more luck than talent got him out of this one. "Smoking or non-smoking Sir?"....."SMOKING!!"
lmao that was good one. Now i must admit that "close call" vids are a great thing to watch and it's good fun to read replies to those "miracluos escapes". If you got a little bit high it turns a to be a REAL fun.

Hate to say it but even Thunderbird pilots can make an altitude correction error and turn their sleek 29 million $ F-16 into a John deer plow disk very quickly. The Yak-3/9 Fighter was highly underated and could out-turn a FW-190 or P-51D below 10K.
RobertGary1, don't ever take up acrobatics! This no math error but pilot error. He floated the G over the top and failed to correct on the backside. Plus his wings weren't level coming entering the backside.
Credit is due for the tuckunder after nearly morting himself. But. thankfully the FAA saw to it that this dope is no longer qualifed to fly airshows
This often ends up being a math error. You have to add the field elevation to your loop top altitude. If you are off 100 feet, opps. I hope he didn't get a prop strike, tearing down those radials is expensive.
why do pilot do that manouvre? so many warbirds have crashed doing it, (just look at the spitfirecrash vid if you want proof) don't loop or immelham so close to the ground you daft buggers!
Given how tank like Yakovlev aircraft are built, I wouldn't be surprised if he was scraping!
