From the opening shot till the closing shot, one of the greatest movies ever made. Robert Aldrich really made one for the ages with this movie. It transcends the film noir genre and becomes something more universal. With almost no sympathetic characters in the whole movie, everyone out for himself, its a reflection of what this world is coming to--now even more so than in 1955 when this movie was released. What could be the result of a world devoid of compassion and how could this world end??
I remember Spillane being paid $7 million for a novel he'd write in a few days. That's good pay.
The credits in this are unique. And I thought that was Cloris Leachman. For many decades, you couldn't swing a dead cat without encountering Cloris Leachman. Fine actress.
@tamika893 Yes, I incorrectly typed the word you're while I was judging someones intelligence for expressing there negative opinion on a film. Congratulations, I can see you have had some college.
No Corvettes were harmed during the making of this movie..... Movie kicks ass. Hadn't seen it in years and years. Thanks MrElephantMemory for putting it up.
Well done, thrille-- on par with Hitchcock's best. The denouement was so scary it left me shaking! However, I am still not quite sure who exactly it was that killed Christina or whyt hey killed her, or who that Lily Carver impersonator was. And I suspect ol' MIke and Velma would have died of radiation poisoning from that explosion,
@huskyjerk I absolutely believe Joseph Stefano's "It Crawled Out of the Woodwork" entity was inspired by "Kiss Me Deadly's" whatsit. They both represent the same thing, too.
Just got past the start of the movie. Looks great so far. Cloris playing Christina is awesome so far!
How times have changed. A really FULL SERVICE station! Guy jacks up the car and take out a tumbleweed for just a TIP!!! Nowadays, they'd have you "drop off your car" and they'd get back to you "in a couple days" and rip you off for the "fast service" at $75.
simillar story to pulp fiction and raiders of the lost ark.
i didn't like it, it spent too much time on random stuff that had little relevence to the overall plot only to rush the ending. the box only appears 15 mins from the end.
@TheFrauline01 Yes, it's a bit difficult to picture young Cloris Leachman as Nurse Diesel in "High Anxiety" or Frau Bluecher in "Young Frankenstein" 30 years later...
Ralph Meeker was so good in this film. Brutal, for its time, Kiss Me Deadly is the perfect film in the grubby end of 'Film Noir', where everyone has the morals of alley cats and you root for the least bad.
when the credits were rolling and she was sobbing, had someone come into my room without they would've probably mistakenly thought i was watching something naughty.
Marian Carr, the flirtatious blonde who first appears at 0:49:20, seems to be a sort of poor man's Lizabeth Scott. I must say she has a great way of greeting strangers!
This movie was a major influence on the french new wave----and it's a lot more fun to watch than Godard's BREATHLESS....
It also, thanks to location photography, looks more real than Hawk's THE BIG SLEEP, a movie that looks like it takes place in nyc, though set in l.a....
The detective as stupid scumbag----25 years later after Ralph Meeker, Jack Nicholson doing the same, in CHINATOWN.
@monk22yrs Actually, Nicholson's character is CHINATOWN, though a bit foul-mouthed and cynical, is actually meant to be a fairly decent fellow and reasonably smart. The end of the film, which allowed the villain to get away with everything scot-free, was re-written at the insistence of the director, Roman Polanski. The film's original ending allowed for some measure of justice and hope, if unofficial. As for this film, it was meant as a slap at Mickey Spillane's original books.
@The1962driftingaway but, nicholson still managed to slap faye dunaway around, in that famous slapping scene....after having sex with her, a couple days after her husband was found dead.
@The1962driftingaway "The end of the film, which allowed the villain to get away with everything scot-free, was re-written at the insistence of the director, Roman Polanski."
