  • Very good.. Made me smile to see you all playing this song. I want to learn to play the bass line.. any tips?

  • the point of doing a cover is not necessarily to do it 'better' than the original

  • A Bag of Tools - R. Lee Sharpe

Isn't it strange how princes and kings,

and clowns that caper in sawdust rings,

and common people, like you and me,

    are builders for eternity?

    Each is given a list of rules;

a shapeless mass; a bag of tools.

And each must fashion, ere life is flown,

    A stumbling block, or a Stepping-Stone.

  • usually composition is credited to Johnson/Llewellyn/Sibbles

and who is crediting Sharpe's poem to the composers of the music? The only thing "original" about the lyrics is the Jamaican accent, and the third verse. The alterations they made to the words are trivial.

and BTW the older heptones version kicks butt over the version these guys cover.

  • try to attend a heptone show

  • Original recording by The Heptones BUT original lyrics based on the poem - A Bag of Tools by R. Lee Sharpe. Good job though. Massive

  • i agree with skapadon...

  • I dont doubt you guys are good musicians but this isnt a very good cover. the heptones do it best..

  • ok tribute but its the original by the heptones is the best the heptones sing it like nobody else can. Inner circle version was good too

  • this song was originally written and played by the heptones no doubt about it.

  • Book Of Rules

    Lyrics: H Johnson, B Llewellyn

    Music: H Johnson, B Llewellyn

Played by Bob Weir with Bobby & The Midnites and in a few later appearances with Kingfish.
