  • How many other songs can boast a line anything like "If you chew tobacco don't spit on the floor, expectorate in the cuspador"?

  • @Zipgunn1 Ha! You are absolutely right. I think the answer is 'none'. A cracking tune and a vocabulary lesson to boot! Thanks for commenting, Spratmac8

  • @Spratmac8 Yup! I think you could count them on the fingers of an armless man.

You're right about the vocabulary, it taught me what a cuspidor is, I've just learned how to spell it too.

This song has a very early ska feel to it.

  • HEY !....This reminds me of the ole LIME TREE days here in england...the finest rockin' club in peterborough in the late 70's to mid 80's....this track packed the floor with girls strollin'......great memories.

  • Glad it brings back such fine memories Buddy. Thanks for your comment.

  • Quite special !! Some great high-quality history / past-era stills you've selected to accompany this tune, too. Well done ! Just as an aside .. Do you happen by chance to know - what's the name of that old-time fiddler / banjo-player combo, who appear at 0.00 to 0.06 and again at 0.52 to 1.00 ? They seem like they'd be right up my alley, re my favourite style of old-time string-band mountain music. Congrats on this clip !!

  • Hi Colin, thanks for your kind words. The players in the picture you asked about are West Virginia fiddler Edden Hammons, accompanied by his son James on the banjo. They were members of the Hammons Family dynasty. An album of their material called Traditions of a West Virginia Family & Friends, is available at Amazon (where you can listen to samples) and elsewhere. Best wishes, Spratmackrel.

  • Not the most hygenic song ever written!

  • No! Doubt anyone would record something like this today ;-)
