Bit of a science fail here. The dummy isn't medically accurate in so far as there is no muscle or body tissue protecting the vital organs. I think a pro athlete would probably fare a little better than the dummy did.

BUT.....that doesn't mean that getting a punch like that from Bas Rutten wouldn't be devastating. I still think that any 'average joe' taking a hit like that would be incapable of doing anything for the foreseeable future.

Also its not as devestating as it looks, he is punching directly to a skeleton ribcage which then turns inwards and puncture the spleen with the end of the bone. In addition to all that, getting hit by a linebacker's upper body and Bas' punch are not the same regardless if the force is. Bullets actually contain very little force, but rip through tissue way easier than a large object would with the same force. Surface area of the colliding objects as well as the time or "speed" of the collision make a huge difference on the effect it will have. It's really simple physics.

Yeah it's 1300 pounds of force... hitting a dummy anchored by iron into the ground, doesn't dodge, and has no muscle tissue. Try punching a wall of tight rubber bands or something elastic and tell me that it doesn't reflect any force. Also, a normal person's whole body would move backwards and significantly reduce what's absorbed by the spleen.

The only part I don't like about this test, is that the dummy can't give way because it's tied up to the pole. So it's more like punching someone with their back against the wall, and they have to absorb all the force of the stabbing punch in one place.

I think the Deadliest Warrior show tests are better just because their mannequins have more leeway, thus measuring force more objectively.
