So much respect for George Martin. It's incredible to see how razor sharp his memory of their studio recordings is in this video and also how he guided their sound without interfering with their creativity.
it's so funny ... george martin still seems like the teacher or the adult authority and the guys still seem like the boys. even after all these years.
My band Chandrama just posted a video on our channel, a cover of George's "It's All Too Much" with sitars and things on it, and sung in Nepali. The Beatle's organization was super easy to deal with on the licensing approval. We hope George would have approved. You can see it on our channel, and please do.
I like at 8:33 when George giggles as they pan faders in and out. Paul: "With a bit of drums." George: "And a bit of loops." Tell me we're not witnessing a Beatles session!

Seeing these three together is always touching and great, but at the same time it's like... REALLY obvious that John isn't there. I mean, of course he isn't, but it's like you look at the three others and almost wonder where John is and then go, "Oh. Right..."
The tension between Paul and George is very obvious. If George's Hand Made Films company hadn't gone under, this probably wouldn't have happened. George was very reluctant to do this because he still held contempt for Paul due to past business dealings. If you read the book "You Never Give Me Your Money" you would understand why. George's snippy remarks and facial expressions say it all.
@stigmajosh I totally agree with your assessment here. No amount of chanting Hari Krishna could wash away the seething contempt and outright hatred Harrison had for McCartney. I have an audio interview where Harrison very emotionally and filled with pent up anger spews out......"Paul McCartney ruined me as a guitarist". I have been a fan since 1964. I have seen alot of interviews and viewed alot of footage.....Harrison's later interviews were filled with controlled anger towards Paul
I could watch stuff like this for hours, wish there were more. Call me crazy but personally, I would rather have had 8 hours of them reminiscing like than 8 hours of the anthology. But that's just me!
@iwillstom It's not just you, friend. I've always been fascinated by the "behinds", the "makings" of their songs. And these special features are gems to me. And for once, George laughs ! RIP George !...
@unfortunatebeam I think more of what he means is nobody has been quite so innovative since, I can only name a hand full of bands beyond the Beatles who even really come close to matching their musical genius.
i dont even think george was that hip into doing the anthlogy thing in the first place. ya just listen and for the most part he is sarcastic and sometimes rolls his eyes and cuts his facial expressions when he and Paul get in a close situation.....
Many people don't agree, but I think Ringo was a great drummer. Of course, he didn't do any "super solo", but he had more rhythm+art than any other drummer.
@melapelasinparar - I assuming you mean where's John on the record. He was in hospital in Scotland when they recorded this (2nd July 1969) having been injured in a bike accident the day before. He was dead when they recorded the interview here in 1995.
It's interesting how they mellowed out when they got older and could get other some of bad things in their final days. It's also understandable how George forgot the album that song was on, the did so many takes on things he probably just couldn't remember which is which.
@UltimateDarknezz999 they did takes but the reason george forgot the album is because on abby road paul tried to control everything and everyone notice what george says to paul a @ 2:08. its funny
@chomsky88: Abbey Road was produced by George Martin in the manner of their previous albums and not like the experimental way that they recorded the troubled Get Back (Let It Be) project. They knew that quite possibly it would be their last effort together and were on best behavior to try to make it work one last time so that they go out with a polished work at the close.

Paul always was the handsome one... but George got hot as he grow older!!! He was kind of corky at the begining in 62, 63... 68 69 he looked quite handsome... but here he was a very hot fifty something guy!
You can tell Paul seemed somewhat hurt and uptight during the Golden Slumbers bit. I think he never meant any harm during those years...it was just the way he made music sometimes to get it the way he envisioned it. And of course the ironic thing is it was in fact George playing bass on GS. Either way despite their past they seemed to get on decent here. People think George looked super pissed but they dont realize that's how he always looks lol
Lol George couldn't help but say that comment about Paul playing all of the instruments and Ringo couldn't help but laugh...He's got a big head, but that's alright, he's just one of the guys...Mr. Macca
funny, since his father (was his?) played the trumpet... I would expect some musical training on his part... besides, some of his writing is very complex for someone who can't read music.... simply Amazing! Beatles FOREVER!!!!
@dnkan yes, in interviews Paul has said so dircetly his words in response "You got a problem with that?"--just see the film about Paul's Liverpool Oratorio- ahuge symphony of classical music where paul just imagined the whole thing and had another guy write it down for him in music notation
George's memory was so bad !. There are shots of him recording 'Abbey Road' with a six-string Fender bass in Beatles Monthly. He played bass on more than one track on 'Abbey Road', mainly Paul's 'piano' tracks.
@ipolson: How well can you remember what you did on a given day 25 years ago?I'd be hard pressed. And I doubt George spent a lot of time looking at old photos from back in the day. He wasn't terribly nostolgic about The Beatles.
@aarfeld: I wasn't criticizing him, I said it tongue in cheek ! I agree he wasnt all that nostalgic about the Beatles up to the Anthology, but he certainly seemed enthusiastic during that time, speaking fondly of the old days etc in interviews on the Special Features disc.etc.
@ipolson: Yes, I think that by this point the bitterness was largely forgotten and the fond memories came to the fore. They had also come to feel pride for their tremendous legacy and had come to a greater understanding of just how special their union was in ways that were difficult to appreciate back in the day. Still, there's a bit of an edge and a dig in George's humor.
@LonelyPepperz Don't worry, I wouldn't be shocked if the man lived until he was 100 and still rocking! He has a lot of energy and spirit. He'll be with us for a long time still. :D
Another point when looking at Paul. He was the only one that came from a happy middle class family, the rest did not. He tends to see the world through rose colored glasses, he's basically happy go lucky, doesn't sweat the small stuff. He also seems to have no temper, that can be an infuriating trait. Your there all ready for a fight, and you get nothing out of him.
Paul did come from a working-class family. They weren't as poor as Georges' parents but they weren't rich, or even as rich as Johns family (fact that often gets forgotten).
Johns aunt owned a house and they lived in a good neighborhood. I think Pauls Mum died when he was around 14 or something. So who knows nothing about whom?
And please don't be so superfcial when you say that Paul was "Happy go lucky" he is a complex fellow who many issues.
If you listen to the early episodes, Paul & George talk about the fact that as young boys Paul was the "older" one. They both admitted that defined their relationship, Paul always treating George as the "younger" one. I'm sure that George chafed under this treatment, especially as an adult
even funnier: george martin remarks that the bass is on every take of the multitrack and, as macca is on piano/vocal he couldn't have played bass too... (why would you overdub a bassline onto a take you weren't going to use?)
I would have KILLED to be the guys who are standing behind them while they are listening tomorrow never knows........i mean.......come on!!!!!!!...... Paul, George, Ringo and George Martin!!!!
George announced in early 2000 that Paul had agreed to work with him on some tracks for an album later that year ("I heard he's had some hits", George joked). But George later delayed that project in order to re-mix and re-release All Things Must Pass. By the time that was finished, George discovered his cancer had returned and never got the chance to finish the new album, which later was put together from George's demos by his son Dhani and Jeff Lynne. It was called Brainwashed.
on the songs dear prudence, back in the u.s.s.r .ballad of john and yoko this is just lennon and mccartney,on taxman paul does the solo he is a very good guitar player, lennon and harrison also both played 6 string baritone guitar ,they all had their little musical gifts that they gave to each other..i'll tell you folks it is really great being a musician PEACE AND LOVE!!
For me thats a freaky moment at 8:20 when they are playing Tomorrow Never Knows and the voice of John comes on singing lines out of the tibetan book of the dead. Scary!
I may have no life, but I think I could spend hours and hours watching and listening to the Beatles. Obsessed, yes? Embarrassed? Only for people who might think I'm crazy.

Paul always was the handsome one... but George got hot as he grow older!!! He was kind of corky at the begining in 62, 63... 68 69 he looked quite handsome... but here he was a very hot fifty something guy!

Paul got owned on the Golden Slumbers part LOL!
Yayo015 1 year ago
You can tell Paul seemed somewhat hurt and uptight during the Golden Slumbers bit. I think he never meant any harm during those years...it was just the way he made music sometimes to get it the way he envisioned it. And of course the ironic thing is it was in fact George playing bass on GS. Either way despite their past they seemed to get on decent here. People think George looked super pissed but they dont realize that's how he always looks lol
jwild611 1 year ago
Lol George couldn't help but say that comment about Paul playing all of the instruments and Ringo couldn't help but laugh...He's got a big head, but that's alright, he's just one of the guys...Mr. Macca

I bet John Lennon was peeking in on EVERY get together Paul, George, and Ringo had in the anthology bits. He was there :)

funny, since his father (was his?) played the trumpet... I would expect some musical training on his part... besides, some of his writing is very complex for someone who can't read music.... simply Amazing! Beatles FOREVER!!!!
dnkan 1 year ago
@dnkan yes, in interviews Paul has said so dircetly his words in response "You got a problem with that?"--just see the film about Paul's Liverpool Oratorio- ahuge symphony of classical music where paul just imagined the whole thing and had another guy write it down for him in music notation

George's memory was so bad !. There are shots of him recording 'Abbey Road' with a six-string Fender bass in Beatles Monthly. He played bass on more than one track on 'Abbey Road', mainly Paul's 'piano' tracks.
ipolson 2 years ago
@ipolson: How well can you remember what you did on a given day 25 years ago?I'd be hard pressed. And I doubt George spent a lot of time looking at old photos from back in the day. He wasn't terribly nostolgic about The Beatles.
aarfeld 1 year ago
@aarfeld: I wasn't criticizing him, I said it tongue in cheek ! I agree he wasnt all that nostalgic about the Beatles up to the Anthology, but he certainly seemed enthusiastic during that time, speaking fondly of the old days etc in interviews on the Special Features disc.etc.
ipolson 1 year ago
@ipolson: Yes, I think that by this point the bitterness was largely forgotten and the fond memories came to the fore. They had also come to feel pride for their tremendous legacy and had come to a greater understanding of just how special their union was in ways that were difficult to appreciate back in the day. Still, there's a bit of an edge and a dig in George's humor.

Another point when looking at Paul. He was the only one that came from a happy middle class family, the rest did not. He tends to see the world through rose colored glasses, he's basically happy go lucky, doesn't sweat the small stuff. He also seems to have no temper, that can be an infuriating trait. Your there all ready for a fight, and you get nothing out of him.
msgtchris 2 years ago
@msgtchris: Paul came from a working-class family & his mother died while he was young.
MarieNC2 2 years ago
MarieNC2 is right.
And please don't be so superfcial when you say that Paul was "Happy go lucky" he is a complex fellow who many issues.
cathimclen 2 years ago
Only Ringo was truly working class, have you seen Aunt Mimi's house?
jim25shwp 2 years ago
If you listen to the early episodes, Paul & George talk about the fact that as young boys Paul was the "older" one. They both admitted that defined their relationship, Paul always treating George as the "younger" one. I'm sure that George chafed under this treatment, especially as an adult

GrahamakaHajessod 2 years ago
even funnier: george martin remarks that the bass is on every take of the multitrack and, as macca is on piano/vocal he couldn't have played bass too... (why would you overdub a bassline onto a take you weren't going to use?)
mr h smiles and says: "he was keen!"
