I just downloaded Daz Studio 4.0 and am new to cg and am having a tough time getting the hang of it. Can anyone give me tips to animating, editing character shapes and skin, or point me to a site or video that gives a good run through
@DemonLord120 It can be kinda a lot to absorb at first but stick with it. Daz Studio is a lot of fun once you get some of the basic concepts.
Check out the Daz website. There are video some video tutorials on their youtube page too. You can always ask questions in the Daz Studio forums. The people in the forums are really nice and helpful.
@kb7rky Actually the DS version is done and up in the freebie section on my site. They changed a lot though as I ended up making a new base shader using Shader Mixer. It was a fun learning process but I still think the skin could be a lot better. I started working on the Carrara version and am getting closer but still not quite there hehe.
The skin at 0:23 looks pretty good. On such a close up it reveals that the outer rim of the iris needs some blurring :). It would be interesting to have graymaps (like displacement maps) that would control the size of the skin pores, the key advantage would be to very gradually shift from areas with large pores like, on the cheeks ( i suppose ), to the eyelids.
The textures and shaders changed quite a bit since the video was made and have now been released. I did add in graymap slots for some of the channels and procedural, scalable voronoi patterns in the bump and displacement but never thought to control the scale with a map. That is a great idea!
@womeniwanttofuck Sorry for taking so long to reply. Shader Mixer is only in DS advanced but is active in the free version for the first 30 days I think.
Ack! Your right. I honestly hadn't noticed how many views the video had gotten until you posted. I packaged up the textures and the DS3 shader and uploaded them to my site. There is a poser mat-pose for them too but it isn't as nice. None of mine are as good as the Elite shaders/textures but was a fun learning project. A Carrara version should be done in few weeks.
Version 3 of Daz Studio just came out and uses some advanced shader operations. This makes my skin presets not work properly so I am updating them. I should have them done soon.
