@MisterDocterAndrew hey actually he wont because i found out that once the air is out there is no need to turn on the air pump unless for water changes( kinda like having to suck the tube for a gravel cleaner it doesnt stop) though it will stink if the power went off for a long time ( sorry if i sound like a smart alec)
@MisterDocterAndrew -,- i bet, no even hope, that more people said this, your a moron, when you make something like that you keep that in mind and make it so that that WONT happen with an power outage

show us how to make a 25 gallon for the non EXTREME RICH PEOPLE and just for the every day kind of guy or girl dude i like THATS A COOL BADASS FISH TANK is there a AQUA CLEAR to keep the water 100% PERFECTION
I understand the concept, but it seems like it would suck to maintain. Green and brown algae could be managed with an algae pad on a stick or a magnet. Coralline algae, however, takes a lot more scrubbing strength to remove. A magnet couldn't do it, and it would be tough to get that kind of pressure with a stick algae pad from that angle. Also, seems like it would be difficult not to have "dead spots" or low flow areas where cyanobacteria would likely become present.
It would be nice if you could show a drawing on paper of how it is made? How big is the gap needed at the bottom for water to flow? Does it matter if it is small or big?
how does this work ? like is the upper tank a tank in a nother tank i dont know how if the top one has an open bottom the water would not over flow out of the lower tank
@unlockwall its all about gravity. get a cup fill it up with water, then keep it filled under water and slowly lift it up.the water gets stuck. this is how these work
@octopustime342 thanks a month ago this drove me so nutts i spent the whole day watching how this types works really quite neet that the water pressure is less on the top must feel weird for the fish
@octopustime342 Actually, it's all about pressure, atmospheric pressure. This concept wouldn't work outside on the Moon, nor would it work if the tank was more than 34 feet tall. The pressure of the atmosphere on Earth at sea level is enough to hold up to 34 feet of water in a column.
You have the right idea, though; atmospheric pressure wouldn't exist without gravity . . .
@tvproducing No, all the pump does is suck the air that hes sending with his air pump so if there's a power outage both pumps stop and it has the same effect of when you suck on a straw and plug the top
i don't get it, it says dead fish are easy to remove, well what if one of your fish started to float in the tank on the top? That seems like it would be WAY hard
@1Serval the water pump is at the top of the upper aquarium. creating a vaccuum that sucks the water and keeps it up.
You can see how it works very easily by filling up your sink with water and taking a translucid glass, put it in the sink and allow it to become filled with water, then turn it upside down inside the water, and lift it up higher than the water level, but not all the way out, so that the open bottom stays in the water, and the vacuum keeps the water from falling back in the sink
Question: if you had a power failure, wouldn't it just flood? I can't quite figure out the physics behind it. I'd love to have one, unless losing power would cause it to overflow and leak everywhere.
@TheFishboywill because they are obscenely difficult to maintain, all the notes about how easy and innovative this aquarium is are lies. This is an old concept that had it's niche in restaurants and night clubs, nothing more. The potential for there to be a catastrophic failure is high as well, I don't know if you've set up a marine tank, but bulkheads can leak - a bulkhead leaking air over a night with that tank means all the water is on your floor.
@sharpiesreef Ok I understand. Anyway I do have a saltwater tank, I'll post a vid but they don't get much attention. Well I think your doing a great job on the tank and congrats on the views. Don't tell youtube but im 12 years old too.
@TheFishboywill I'm 19 now and the tank you may have viewed as mine (a 29 mixed reef - bowfront tank) is by no means my main tank. I have a 120g in wall mixed reef with several compliment tanks in my fish room.
@overstockable Actually if the power went out everything would remain in place unless there was a leak at the top. The only reason water would come out is if air goes to the top to displace the water.
Fill your sink with water and submerse a cup in the water making sure all air is out, then turn cup upside down in the water and raise it above the water line, making sure to keep the rim under water. The water will remain in the cup forever, or until your hand becomes fatigued . . .
WOW!!! Absolutely beautiful. I have never seen a bottomless tank but I love the concept and the effect it offers. Great job on creating such a nice setup and thanks for sharing.
I have a question.since the pump is sucking in water as fast as it's pushing out from the top too and what if the electricity dies.won't the water come back down and cause a bigass mess.curious.cause this seems too kool.

It's a CF 65W True Actinic. Sorry, I don't know that much about changing these kinds of bulbs that are connected by wires instead. Please Help ASAP! Thank You.
ok so for the people who dont understand this... the air is pushed up and the water is replaced so that the water level dont drop. if the power goes off then no more air would get pushed into the tank and no more water would be poured either so the level of water and air stays the same it wont cause a flood because the top tank is under the level of bottom tank water level and gravity will keep it that way.hope this helps fishfreedom x
@McRogers80 if you still dont understand how this works then take a jug into your bathtub and fill it halfway then turn it upside down and push it underwater and youll notice that the water level and the air level stays the same but if you blow air into it the water escapes therefore the top tank has to have a water pump to sustain the water levels hope ive helped every1 xxxxx
I just built a mini version of this tank. if I send air bubbles up the tall section of the tank won't the water level in the tall section drop because the bubbles are sending air up?
if you made a hole on top all of the water would rush out because then the water in the top part would have full atmospheric pressure coming from the top, which along with the force of its weight, would overpower the pressure coming from the bottom
I have a 75 gallon salt water tank. How would I convert it into one of these? It currently has no fish in it. It is totally ready for use, I just have not had the space in my house to put it and now I am moving and I will def. be setting it back up again. I am very interested in this "open bottom" tank and it's appearance. I would love to find out how to do this, or who to bring it to or call to come to my home and set it up? Thank you in advance for your advice. Your tank is fabulous.
the water can stay up as long as no air gets in get a mixing bowl and fill with water and a clear cup and put cup in bowl and inside water turn the cup upside down and pull it out and keep the tip of the cup below the water and the water will stay up
the roof the roof the roof is on fire we dont need no water let that motherfucker burn go go go go....awesome build buuuddy i wish i knew how to bond glass that way
Plug your sink and fill it with water... take a pop bottle, remove the cap and fill it up with water. Now quickly flip the bottle over and submerse the lid area (with the cap off) into the water.
how is that actually working??? is there just a whole load of water circulating around with small restrictor holes on the outlet of the open bottom tank??
Spot on great tank :)

Plug your sink and fill it with water... take a pop bottle, remove the cap and fill it up with water. Now quickly flip the bottle over and submerse the lid area (with the cap off) into the water.
