One of the scene I liked the most: (spoiler) actually, this sequence is seen through Arthur's eyes : as he watch the new Brian Slade on stage, he sees the 70's Maxwell Demon. We can assume that it wasn't the actual show at all and that this scene is a pure illusion in Arthur's mind: only him recognizes Slade and the public just clap hands in total ignorance !
@rocksinoo OR... it's just another fantasy part of the film or a musicvideo that Slade did back then (like the part where they play The Ballad of Maxwell Demon in the dollhouse). And then it appropriately cuts to Arthur to continue the story.
@TheFubbick What I think is that most of the movie could even be Arthur's fantasy as the other characters tell him the story of Brian Slade. This scene is completely disconnected to the story in any cases, so to me it seems logical that it is actually Arthur's perception of the new Brian Slade on stage, and thus it is linked to the story telling again. The whole point of the movie is the perception of the artist,if it was just some rando musicvideo put here for no reason, it would disappoint me.
I had never seen such a united beauty: Jonathan that way made up, moving as if he was the music ... exciting... the scene evades me totally of the reality.
YOU SEE THAT GLITTER ON HIS FACE? That's natural, he doesn't need Halloween crap, only what his mama gave him! ;D
This is so beatiful and happiness-radiating everytime I see it. :) The theater thing he is in is just MAGNIFICANT! I hope to dance in the glitter that the sky poors on me in the future... ♥
@geligniteandlilies- I totally agree- blessing in disguise. Same with Hedwig and the Angry Inch- they originally wanted to sing "You Light Up My Life" in German for the last song, but couldn't get the rights. So glad they didn't- otherwise we wouldn't have Midnight Radio, one of the greatst songs ever
Geligniteandlilies what did bowie say no too, this has always seemed like a bowie story to me i bout this movie like 3 yrs ago and have watched a it a million times, but it was suppose to actually be bowies music or something? im just wondering. I love that placebo played that t-rex song in this movie but the movie was filled with great music i even got the soundtrack to it as well
@itsBrandonful Bowie wouldn't let them use his music. Which ended up being fine with Todd, it helped the story/mood. On a personal note, him saying no all those years ago changed my life for the better in introducing me to Steve Harley and Marc Bolan. :)
Just in case my first post was unclear (I was running out of characters and had to condense) -- Original version... title = TUMBLING DOWN group/artist = COCKNEY REBEL singer/songwriter = STEVE HARLEY album = PSYCHOMODO release date = 1974 duration = 6:00 minutes rating = AWESOME :) Again, the cover for the movie was pretty good, but I was so happy to discover the original. Check it out!
@Soundi5 I bought the VHS many years ago. Then i got the DVD. Got the soundtrack CD, too. In fact, thinking back, i got the CD first (never having seen the film), then i just had to see it. Superb! I grew up in the 70's with the original glam rock movement, so i couldn't fail to like it. A true classic, that should've been much bigger than it was! I love it... \m/ (:o)
watched this movie 3 weeks ago, still suffering ´cause of my ex girlie....had some beers in my head, and it was on tv. next day, ordered it from amazon^^ this is so pure, can´t describe it. also watch donnie darko directors cut, folks. death is just 1 bullet away. keep on dreamin
haha ya im confused too on some parts ... i wish someone would explain it to me lol ... like the spaceship, and the green emerald, and the wish, and what is "max rockwell"? is that like his nickname or something i have no idea lol haha - someone explain! but other than that love this movayy! :) hehe
As Barnox said, I think the space ship dropped off baby Oscar Wilde with the green emerald, which he then wore as a child. Then, 100 years later when Jack Fairy was being beaten up, he found the emerald, which he then gave to the reporter guy (who met him when reporter guy was a teenager), which he gave to the deranged rock star, who then tried to give it to reporter guy as an adult who declined it.
I think. I'm gonna have to watch it carefully now to make sure :P
i guess you didn't saw the film... it's just the character he plays who has a very glitter- and glamourous taste concerning clothes and outfits...so, no it's not a joke.
i think when you watch the movie, you'd better understand it^^
Does anyone know where I can find the Velvet Goldmine version of 2HB sung by Thom Yorke? Cant find it anywhere on here :( Its a stunning rendition. Tried to make my own video of it using pictures from the film but it wouldnt work :(
Jonathan, the guy who plays Brian of course, well I just watched him on August Rush but I love him more in this movie. I mean, whats not to love about him on that movie? The hair, the make up, the glitter, the glam outfits, the male on male action (this one mostly. ;)? Really, that's why I loved it so much. Great, great movie.
@muzza798 RE "ive listened to this song about 1000 times in 1 day. why cant it go on longer"
The original version DOES go on longer -- six full minutes. This is not a bad cover, but it only contains two of the three verses, and it completely skips the song's phenomenal ending. Max Rockwell is Brian Slade, after he faked his own death and and came back, under a different name.
And the green emerald (is there any other kind?) is the Glam Rock, which was brought by the spaceship, and is the embodiment of Glam Rock.
Methinks. If I remember correctly.
