Hi Zyhano, excellent video. Because of your review, I'm going to order a sheath from Martin. By the way, I notice in the video, you were carry a black pouch Could you provide me the name of the brand and it is any good? I'm planning to get a pouch to carry and protect my Suunto Global M3 compass 125mm x 65mm x 15mm. Any recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks. P.S. not easy to find a decent one online. I'm based in the UK
I do not know who you are or where you come from, but I know what you are; 0och there is someone living in the wild, hope your "bullshit" works when you are flirting with girls (but in your case probably really young male children). Your perversan deviation...
Thank you mr. Dutchman for coming to my country, you seem to be a person who can enjoy what we enjoy - the quiet outdoors and the nature. Next time though, please leave the live trees and the ants alone. Our law is very clear and we like it that way.
To those whinging lame greenies, before criticizing someone about some sustainable food gathering in the wild, ask yourselves what the cattle you eat do to ground cover and biodiversity, or go bush and find a group of moron trail bike riders or four wheel drivers and take on some real environmental vandals. Some people really need to get a life, great knife and gear test by the way.
Thanks for the review, I'm sure Fällkniven make excellent knives. I'm probably going to get one for not other reasons than nostalgic ones (I'm born in Sweden). As far as testing goes, you really didn't do anything with your knife that we didn't do as 10-12 year old boy scouts with $5 scout knifes (the very first knife you receive after you've taken your knife badge in the Swedish Scout system). I guess that's more of a testament to Swedish steel in general, than to Fällkniven in particular.
The land access laws in Scotland are almost identical to the Swedish allemannsretten. You can camp almost anywhere provided you are outside the curtilage of private property, e.g. someone's 'obvious' garden area, and as long as you behave responsibly with regard to fires and wildlife, etc. Scotland is far more similar to Nordic countries in its attitudes towards the land than it is to the Anglo-Saxon notions of land ownership and so-called right-of-way.
@Petegrin1 I guess the grass is greener on the other side ;) I loved sweden, and did not get a lot of rain when I was there... besides, it's about the same climate as here lol
@zyhano What did you say not to do when batonig so you wouldn't damage the knife/handle? Would the knife hold up to batoning heavily and often like almost everyday?
@pop2u1 don't hit the ground. there is sand and rocks that will damage the edge. I would not know if it could up to it every day, there might be some edge damage, but if you can field sharpen the knife it's no problem. It is steel, so it should be able to handle a lot.
Just a little tip about firebuilding, if you don't mind: I notice you placed your lit tinder on a pile of dry pine cones. Those do make an excellent firestarting material but not if they're below the actual fire. Also leaving the tinder basically out in the open and then adding twigs on top of that would be a no-go in less than ideal conditions. You'd want to build a pile of twigs and some branches with a hole in the middle for placing the tinder in so the baby flame is somewhat sheltered.
@jackknife68 well, if the law is altered, it will not be because of me. I don't think I brought the reputation of tourists down, if anything at all, I at least showed some of the beautiful scenery of sweden to potential travellers.
@justyoustupid, He's a tourist on Holidays self reliant on his food, he brought in his canoe, abusing a right given from the nordic people also to guests. It's like shitting in your livingroom, while being invited.
Nice Vid, but please for the future a little more respekt to the nature. In the part one you erected a big lean-to with lots of fresh cut spruce, instead of using your tarps also plunder the antsnest and making extra blackspots in the land with your campfire, destroying the small plants and lichens. Also your crowded in a big group, so you have to use the windskids and grounds.
@jackknife68 thanks. I made sure that the spruces came from a lot of different trees that I did not take down. only some low hanging branches. they will grow back one. The ant's nest was very big, we took only a little and did not plunder it. We restored it afterwards, the nest can handle it. No ants were harmed in the process. The group was mostly spread around.
@555Nato jah, wat kan je ervan zeggen... het boeit me niet zo, dit soort discussies heeft geen zin, ga liever tegen de grote bedrijven aan staan schreeuwen, die maken pas echt de boel kapot
@jackknife68 to give you a little update, the lean-to is still standing there in almost perfect condition I heard a couple of days ago. A friend sent a picture. It's still usable. So in essence, I built a sustainable shelter. How's that for environmentally friendly?
Nice video, great knife. One thing though (and not to scold here...) but why start your fire against that lichen covered rock? Generally not a good practice. Some of those lichens take many many years (think hundreds) to grow even 1cm. No need to leave fire scars on the wilderness. If you were truely in a survival situation and it was necessary it would be a different story, but just camping we all need to be careful of our impact on the wilderness. We all love these places after all!
Very nice vid. Tack ska du ha. (Yes, i´m swedish). I use a A1 for heavy work and a small Kershaw folding for the nittygrittys. (And maybe even an axe) - But "my precious" is a "Njord", have you tried it?. Very cool hiking there, though. I can rent you a nice house for base if hiking in Småland sometime, just give me a hollar. Ha det så bra. =)
@70Perra thanks a lot bro! Njord, ah man, I'd like to own a knife from that northern light series, but I have other priorities in gear :) Thanks for the rent offer, I'll keep it in man! Ha det så bra :D
Gear vid. I have this knife and I love it. Do you have the 3g version or the vg10. I have the vg10 and I have experienced some very minor edge rolling and microchipping. I
have never hit the dirt or sand in fact I've not even battoned with it yet. Like I say, it was very minor edge rolling and microchipping and it was eseally corrected with a lansky sharpenner and a little stopping on my leather belt. Love this knife.
Do you find that the F1 is more of a flat grind with a convex bevel? And do you find the original edge too thin? I own an F1, have some videos about it. I'm not 100% positive about the blade geometry myself. I think I must test it against other convex knives properly soon.
what is your technique for sharpening your F1's edge? I have used a cutting into the stone method, and also circular motion, but I am still not able to get my F1 back to hair shaving sharp like when I first got it out of the box. thank you
@kaziklu79 Not here.. we did not destroy it, took a small part, and restored it as best we could. Having the ants etc on the plastic made it easy to put them back on the hill and close the hole.
@zyhano dont worry i reported you destroying that ant habitat... being sent to the proper channels. HA jk some people need to get a fucking life on here seriously!!!
your supposed to take the birch bark make it to a ball and then take pine sticks since their allways dry even in rain then make a kinda birds nest of the pine and then put the birch ball in it you will build a fire in a 1-2 minutes
@ivageivage yeah, lots of different methods. But you're not supposed to do something the same all the time. Diversity in building fires is what makes you able to get the mechanics in different circumstances. With gasoline I can make fire in 5 seconds..
But I'll ttry that method next time ;) We used what we had lying in front of us: chips of wood made by felling a dead tree, a good batonning opportunity
Very good job. You make some good points. Like not hitting dirt, or letting the handle hit the wood (I damaged mine that way). Mine got micro-chips the first day I used it, but I was very hard on it batoning cross-cut through hard, dry, wood. I have hit dirt with it (I do that in the spoon vids), maybe that caused some chipping, I'll be more careful from now on.
I really like the survival kit you show in the other vid.
@BLUNTRUTH4U thanks man! I actually used your cross cutting technique over there, worked very well thank you. Also used an axe for heavier work, but the cross cutting is great. the woods I worked on were soft generally speaking, with a very twisted grain pattern. The twist is probably heaviest on the knife, the wood itself no problem.
the survival kit, you mean the sheath system? yeah, I'm very happy with it, used it all the time over there
Thanks for sharing, I have been looking at the F1 myself. take care

Haven'T you have read the allemannsretten ? Don'T wonder, if the swedish law will decrease this right in the future ! This is not survival !
You did everything a tourist on a simple canoetrip could do, to bring the reputation of tourists down.
nevertheless i like your vid, it's well made and shows a lot of this great swedish invironment.

zyhano 8 months ago
@zyhano showing some beautiful scenery is one part, the other think is, everythink you did is forbidden by the allemannsretten.
In my opinion you are totaly wrong, with your attitude. Even putting a hand on the antsnest is a real nogo !
You are making camping in one of the beatyfullest invironments europe habitates, the nordic people are real open to tourists with their nature.
In Canada just being outside and staying on prepared campgrounds you need permits, don'T let it come to this
