I don't remember the speech in the beginning of "Good Night And Good Luck" mentioning the whole "telling the masses how to think", but it doesn't surprise me that it's there.
I've tried looking for what Penn was talking about, and I haven't found it either. I wonder if this like when got The Shawshank Redemption and Jacob's Ladder mixed-up.
Tnias, your right of course, it just surprises me that's all. its a massively common way to spend time apparently.
bizarrely i cant watch this video now because its redistricted in my country. i thought this was pennsays talking about his daily life (and his bass playing "relationships") i remember the video.
Rob Zombie is a hack. Anyone who rips on Carpenters version and then tries to make his "own" version is an ass. All Zombies films are the same, boobs and ass!
You realize that Carpenter and Co. approached *HIM* about doing Halloween, right? Of course you don't. The words are just tumbling out of your head and onto the keyboard.
I maybe saw about 1/3 or maybe a 1/4 of the movies from the list.
I'm glad that I at least have "In the Shadow of the Moon". Gotta be one of the best documentries on Apollo. A funny story is part of the special features, which I'm sure you found Penn (I'm assuming you have it on DVD).
I think I can agree that Slumdog was a bit contrived, but that was the beauty of the film, that it dangled a suspension of disbelief so deftly. At the same time, hearing the jarring, familiar WWTBAM music placed to firmly in the real world.
how could you hate jacob's ladder? i love the plot; a man fighting against dying and ultimately accepting it and giving in. i did think the lsd subplot was a distraction. they live was really underated. roddy piper was great and so was the news chick (forget her name, but she was very hot AND creepy at the same time). i really enjoy your "non-reviews" :)
I wholeheartedly agree with your take on The Wrestler. That movie destroyed me. Darren Aronofsky and everyone involved with it deserves a big hug. Shame they got robbed at the Oscars [The Reader? Huh?], but at least Rourke and Tomei got nominated.
In an interesting temporal paradox Penn watches more pornography in a year than it is possible for a single person to describe even if they mentioned them by title alone and spoke continuously 24 hours a day for 365.25 days straight.
Upon hearing of this record breaking feat, Film and TV star Chuck Norris reportedly said "O rly?" just prior to locking himself and a macbook inside a kleenix factory with Wifi. He could not be reached for further comment.
man i love you penn but man........Rob Zombie? Hes is one of the worst directors of my generation. That remake he made was awful. Playing "love hurts" while the kid sits on the porch? jesus wept man....
LOST and Dexter are the two best shows on TV you should check them out. LOST requires a pretty huge time dedication though now that its on season five and you have to start at the beginning.
One must see movie is 'Grow your own'. The title and movie are from England. It is not about the American meaning of the phrase. Look it up and give it a try. I'd say more about it except that I usually prefer seeing a movie with a blank slate.
nope I watched the whole thing, and it was good. I don't always agree with you Penn, but you are an archetypical american in many ways. that makes you very endearing, and in certain ways familiar. Keep doing what you do Penn.
Planet of the Apes and Omega Man--both excellent and much, much better than the later remakes. Now see Soylent Green to complete the Heston trilogy! The first Rollerball (sorry, no Heston!) is also well worth another look.
i know wrestling can be a sport but they type of wrestling in this film (from whats i saw in the trailer) isn't. Even wrestling where they cut themselves up on barbed wire is scripted.
Penn drove over Teller, in a real truck, but as you say they then (naughtily?) explain the trick, which involves squidgy tyres and MASSES of weights on the other side to balancethe weight of the truck. I forget what show it was on, though. :D
Yep, gotta agree with you on Dan Craig. I wish I could dedicate the hours to toning myself to look like that and just run around in the birthday suit.

58 movies ! ? , that is a huge amount of videos to be watching inside one year.

That's only about 1 a week, sounds pretty normal. I'd say alot of people probably watch more than that on average.

Beyond The Valley of the Dolls has to be one of the most underrated movies in my humble opinion.

"They Live!" is great fun. I loved that movie, and that great fight between Keith David and Roddy Piper.
"Invasion" I skipped. The orginal movie is better.
"The Omega Man" was the best adaption of "I am Legend", way better than will smith's movie.
I have to see "Zombie Strippers".

Amen to the Zombie comment. If anyone can save the horror genre, it will be Rob Zombie.
And House, Bones and Numb3ers are the only reasons I ever even occasionally venture towards network TV.

I was suprised he didn't actually cast Mike Meyers AS Michael Myers. Rob Zombie's films follow a 3B formula.

2. Butchery
3. Boobs
