Word of warning: The Digital Stream box has a TERRIBLE tuner, very low sensitivity.  It also tends to overheat easily. You are better off using the internal tuner of the TV, because it will pick up both analog and digital broadcasts. The converter boxes will only do pass through, which means they only do digitals when on, and then let the analogs go through when they're turned off.

Because you have a flat screen TV Vizio you do not need a converter box, the Vizio comes pre-ready for Digital TV. All you need is an antenna of your choice!

Unhook the antenna cable from the back of your converter box. Uplug everything from converter and throw it on the couch. Screw your coax from antenna onto the back of your tv where it says "off air" or "dtv tuner". Go into the tv's menu and select search or find off air dtv channels. Then instead of having a degraded picture thru the Standard definition converter box, you will now have High Definition thru your tv's "over the air/ OTA" digital tuner

tuners are different, some work better than others, first box with coupon walmart,averaged around 12 channels, sansui 19" in the bathroom, about 16-18 with the built in tuner, replaced original box(it quit) with new RCA from walmart, with weather /antenna position, i get up to 37 channels, BUT, the rca has different features,cant scroll ahead to check the next day to see whats coming on later?

Go to Home Depot and buy an antenna..put it on your house and point it in the right direction SoCalFreeTV com You are watching over the air broadcast TV..I get nearly 100 channels in my area..Los Angeles TV metro..

I wonder if he knows that digital tv is over the air now and he just built an antenna.... You are no longer able to get analog cable as of Feb 09, but can still receive a few channels over the air.

Follow some of the home made antenna design projects here on Youtube using coat hanger wire (Really does not matter what type of wire) and get even more channels! Mount in Attic if you do not want the bother of adding any lightning protection. But yes, any HD TV made after 2007 has an Antenna ATSC tuner builtin, unless it's some computer monitor that has HDMI only for external input along with the computer interface.
