  • This band was too dangerous for people who "like" music...

  • this superb video just changed my life. can you imagine if they were on conan today? would never happen. people don't know what good music is, when all they do is listen to mainstream radio. you have to delve into the history of the shit. this music right here is far better than anything being put out today. the intro alone kicks the ass of every fucking "rock" (or other) band/ musician out today.

  • hey man i was born in 85 and i remember this.....from conan... laugh!...but no really they were always here in colmo because of the UM campus i guess....at the bluenote..anyways being so young this was the first post grunge era band i really liked.....im just so glad someone had recorded and then uploaded this ........

  • When they play Dublin..pls reply..they are awesome

  • God I miss kickass rock music like this! The 90's were so fucking amazing for rock music!

  • So glad they're coming back

  • When I first listened to the album 'Up In It' I knew I found something special. Between the Whigs, Dinosaur Jr and The Wedding Present the music of this era was soulful like the music of the 60's and 70's.

  • Reformed, cant wait!!!!

  • Brilliant

  • This video screams early 90s, killer though!

  • they are back together, woot!

  • I can't believe there are 6 jerks who dislike this.......hopefully they 'like' everything coldplay

  • Goddam! i was born in 92 ....too late to live trough this

  • Qu'est-ce-qu'on propose à nos gosses aujourd'hui?Justin Timbercake?Et pourquoi pas Justin Pt'it biere pendant qu't'y es, BORDEL DE MMMMERDE!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the kind of songs that helps me run faster when jogging :-)

  • The Afghan Whigs were a great underrated American band. They were genuine and they deserve to be restored to favor!

  • Great performance! Thank-You for posting this!

Love Greg Dulli. Does anyone know what they are up to now? Please let me know :-)

¡Grandes!

  • I'm a remedial fucker, but I pressed "like" anyway...

  • 1990's had some great music

  • Tune.

  • FUCK AYE.

  • Great song!

  • this guy might have one of the most badass voices ever. this band is awsome.

  • @NUKEM16

Greg Dulli absolutely is the most badass singer ever.

  • @lamentconfig100 great talent.. too much into to drugs and booze

  • Yes, someone, official video please.

  • @kdwestbrooks & @DerDickeTyp, are you guys Retarded? ; ) I'm only kidding...

But i find this so much better than the albumversion, even with the lesser sound & video quality!!

  • F**king great song... but why nobody upload the "official video" ???

  • wow - what a great song

  • At least Greg lives on in his other band Twilight Singers and his solo work. But man I do miss that blistering rock that they could crank up.

  • Afghan Whigs re-enact World War II on guitar, bass and drums.

  • @MacHazzer

I would like to add something to that; it's 90% thanks to Steve Earle. Dulli and McCollum are great but Steve really makes a difference. Their music just stands out from the rest because of the changing rhythms all the time. He should be teaching kids how to drum at the University for Talented Young Drummers.

    That's at Mars.

  • @MacHazzer Actually 90% thanks to Greg Dulli, since by Earle's own admission, Dulli either showed him the drum parts himself or told him exactly what to play. But i'm not putting down his talent, the dude can play.

  • @Radb707

Ok, I thought Greg sort of sketched a rough for them, and then the song created from it, was made by all of them. But it turns out he was some sort of creative tyrant. Greg Mussolini. "La mia strada o l'autostrada."

  • Damn it all, I would always be too young to enter which ever venues the Afghan Whigs would play in the Bay Area. Still, great FUCKING band.

  • Thank god I was born in 1972 so I had the chance to live my life with bands like this.

    AMAZING LIVE!!!

  • this band changed my life

  • They were great live at the 9:30 club!

  • first Whigs experience was the rare video for "Sister Brother" on a Sub Pop video sampler over 20 years ago. After having seen them live 3 times during the 90's, I still can't get enough of their live sound. The female vocalist they brought on tour to sing My Curse (not the Scrawl singer) was so incredible that it's burned in my mind forever.

  • This album has also changed my life!

  • I am in love with this man. I don't mean to be funny and say "OMG IM GAY FOR DULLI", I'm being completely honest. He is an artist in every sense of the word; a musician, writer, etc. I would love to meet him and just talk. Every recording, performance, etc, from the Whigs, to the Singers, to the Twins, is dripping with true, raw emotion, chronicling everything good and bad about life.

Once again, he is a fucking genius.

  • @bloodsugardynamite

lol, I couldn't agree with you more. Go gay for the Whigs!

  • Definitely the best live television performance I've ever seen. If only the Whigs had continued to evolve past Gentlemen. In any case, Up In It / Congregation / Gentlemen is the strongest first three albums any band could wish to put out. The Whigs make me proud to be American!

  • lol conan

  • This lineup was Godhead.

  • oh also, at about 4:02, that smile is pure gold. as if to say "we just rolled in here and showed 'em all how it's done." i imagine, it that way at least...

  • my god...one song in thousands compels me to comment. nothing makes me want to cry and hulk-out simultaneously like this shit right here. i never feel more alive listening to music than i do listening to The Afghan Whigs.

  • @kylehereKC

I need to find more Afghans Whigs fans, b/c I don't know anyone who is. Please find me on Facebook. Dulli has touched my life in so many ways. I am Shelly Ress.

  • Should have more views. Thats how you fkn play live. .

  • gods.

  • does anyone know how they named there band. whats whigs mean ? is that the same as wings? i'm confused and i'd like to be educated

  • @bhtggherg Definitions of whig on the Web: * a member of the political party that urged social reform in 18th and 19th century England; was the opposition party to the Tories * a supporter of the American Revolution * a member of the Whig Party that existed in the United States before the American Civil War wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

  • The Whigs were and still are very underrated band. Dulli ROCKS! Still one of my favorite bands.

  • Awesome video. Dulli and Conan were so young....!! The music set looks crazy too.

  • Listen to the song and then press "like". Unless, of course, you are some kind of remedial fucker.

  • This is their greatest....OMG I LOVE this song!

  • most underated musicians

  • Tonight I go to hell for what I've done to you .

  • Ladies and Gentleman: (especially those of you who were just born when this aired) This is a real band! No auto tune or trickery...raw power and talent! I hope your generation is saved very soon from what you are being fed.

  • @toddhbinkley sadly i think the people you addressed your comment to are watching justin bieber and lady gaga videos rather than this.

  • @starsweet4 I was born in 89 and I love this shit.

We're not all doomed, just a lot of us...

  • WHATS THE FUCKING DATE?!

  • One of best bands from the 90's sorry Nirvana.

  • 3 users like suck dick for drug money

No ?

  • It's like if radiohead were serial killers

  • this made me a badass

  • the fucking shit!

  • i remember watching this and falling hard for M.r Dulli

  • Great live performance!I was glad to hear his vocal's cut off when he stepped away from the mic,it let me know it wasn't a lip sync episode because it sounded so much like the studio at first I was worried. These guy's were great;other band's meet in high school or in college but Afghan Whig's meet in jail haha.

  • Whatever happened to the Whigs? I used to see them when they were the Black Republicans.I then saw them as the Whigs at Mac and Joe's in Oxford'OH.Also... Where are the Liquid Hippoes?

  • @myturbodog1

for post-Whigs Dulli goodness check out The Twilight Singers and The Gutter Twins - not so sure about Curley and the rest.

  • Staggering Statistics (Curley's band) are also great @maddiehope1066

  • fucking crackin' performance. Love the energy in this tune.

  • i think they are from ohio

  • The Afghan Whigs were a motorcycle gang in Florida I do believe.

  • I still can't get enough of these guys!

  • fuckin class!

  • beznadzieja

  • why is thier band named " the afghan whigs???"

  • @dukhtareafghani They had to change it from the Black Republic, I guess it's a sorta oxymoron.

  • @Boabyo

Ohhh Okayyy .... butt whyy is it *The afghan wigs* do you know ???

  • @dukhtareafghani Dunno, man. Guess it's the impossibility of having an Afghan liberal, but I really dunno.

  • @Boabyo The changed their name from The Black Republicans to The Afghan Whigs.

  • @dukhtareafghani It's apparently a Florida biker gang.

  • @HolyCrispyCrap2

Oh ok. but what i don't understand is why is their band named Afghan wigs ??

they are not afghan ? are they ?

  • @dukhtareafghani

The Beatles were no creepy little fuckers too, and the guys from REM are not always asleep.

Maybe they thought it was a pretty cool name.

  • @MacHazzer Having followed the band, and all things Greg Dulli, for a while I can tell you that there has never been a full explanation of their name. In fact there are several stories that Greg has told about the band's name. I _do_ know that it has nothing to do with Afghanistan or anything type of political thing.

  • It's pretty amazing that someone actually has this incredible clip as old and obscure as it is. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • so hot.

  • i love this band sooooooooo much grunge soullllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll baby

  • Great lyricist. Anyone know where they are now? Very very under rated band. I think they got lost in the shuffle with some of the other amazing talent emerging in the mid 90's. Way better than the bullshit coming out now. These guys had a SOUND!

  • @mrpicky510 They called it quits in 2001. A couple of the guys have been in a couple of bands, mostly ungeard-of, Greg's been the most prominent, has a band called the Twilight Singers and paired with Mark Lanegan for the Gutter Twins. Both also pretty sweet but not as good as the Whigs.

  • definitely one of the best bands ever

  • Kinda sounds like John Lennon don't he?

  • @rubbersole79 No.

  • awesome

  • Great rendition! Gotta miss the claps from the studio version, though...

  • Awesome band, I can't tell what their best album is.

  • Great song!!!!!

  • Definitely in my top 5 ...superb album

  • Gentlemen...best album ever

  • Well........it just might be a contender...... amazing album indeed......

  • and it don't sleep, and it don't breathe, it's locked it's jaws and now it's swallowing, it's in our heart, it's in our head, it's in our love, baby, it's our bed....

  • i must admit when so inclined I tend too lost than confront my mind!

    GENIUS!

  • Best version of this song hands down.

  • Amazing band...Dulli is unbelievable.

  • love everything then and now greg dulli is doing! as underrated as mike patton

  • is patton underrated? where? at the moon?

  • well said. do u like the Gutter Twins?

  • The album that changed my life

  • This is literally one of my absolutely favorite albums ever. My background as a musician (guitarist) is NYHardcore/ Crossover. I'd always listen to these guys while driving out from Brooklyn to the Catskills to go snowboarding in the early-mid 90's.

  • Walkintalkinjohnnycashblues...man, these guys wwere a great rock band, now, though the drummer could have lost the suit....and the geetar player could've done less soft shoe, and the singer could've been less pretty and had less grease inhishair, the bass player is the new entwistle, and they rule anyway. OWN. ANYWAY. Goddamn.

  • thankyou so much for posting this. i love the AWs and they are just soo forgotten i hate it! =(( why cant people listen to good music anymore? such a great performance
