  • what program are they using

  • @mbukman13 cubase 6

  • 00:30

  • Love it guys, keep them coming.......Need more honest music producing people like yourselves to help us amateurs......

  • when you talk about the bass sitting between the kick and the snare do you mean in the EQ, like setting the herts and such?

  • Nice Rusko hair

  • You guys should do something about how to place hi hats and make them shuffle nicely. Of course loops work well, but sometimes you can't use loops.

  • @mcparky2k6 I just happenned to stop it at 30 seconds while on a buffer fail!

  • guy on the left is wearing an orange polo shirt. OOPS that's obvious.

  • Guy on the right looks like Rick Howard the pro skater. Big time.

  • OMG I'm watching my favorite producers teach Dubstep production. This is friggin awesome. <3 u guys.

  • Dodge & Fuski - "Shmedium Polos" COMING SOON!!

  • it's a good tutorial for mixing drums and I like their music. i guess they dont use a drum sampler [like Battery or whatever], just lay the samples themselves into audio tracks.. ive been making music with cubase for at least five years and im really happy for some reason that these guys dont mention ab-ton live at all. anyway, keep rocking, dodge and fuski:)

  • LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!!!(no homo)

  • you gyus kings of dubstep!! wanna see you in russia!!!!!! thanks and mega respect for this!!!!

  • This is really good, they go in depth & keep you interested. I've been making electronic music for about two & half years & this gave me the advice I needed to beef up & make my average sounding drums sound tighter & more professional.

Thank you Dodge & Fuski! :D

  • um..theres 12 audio channels of drum samples sitting there...this is actually a very BAD "drums tutorial" guys. what does a "master finger drummer" use to play and sequence his drum patterns??? no response expected (steinberg probably wouldnt like your answer?). where to you load your samples and how do you play them and sequence them????

  • @8messa...How is this a bad drums tutorial? Its dubstep, its normal to have extreme amounts of drums, you can route them all into one mixer strip if you wanted to, but if you want a more manageable mix on the drums then you'd obviously have individual strips.

  • I've watched a lot of dubstep tutorials and this is BY FAR the most entertaining to watch. You guys need a radio show or something, I love the banter.

  • This was extreamly helpfull !!!

  • Thanks a lot for making these tuts, not many producers as big as you take the time to do this sorta thing. Really appreciate it!

After watching all your tuts I managed to make this:

    /watch?v=6L8OmSLTrvo

(or you can just click on my name)

Its not great but I think these tuts have really helped me improve!

  • funny thing is before i watched this i've beeen using the vengeance sample packs...

  • So British it hurts... 0.0

  • anyone know what they used to load up the drums in the first place? was it a vst like battery or something built-in like groove agent one?

  • @neeharavi They're using samples so they just drag the sample into an audio track.

  • @OfficialGlowbox ahh fair enough, dont really know how cubase works hence the confusion... cheers :)

  • @neeharavi I use Logic but I've used Cubase a little bit and I think the principle is the same on most DAW's. Just make a new audio track (as opposed to a software instrument track) and have one for each drum, so you can apply EQ and effects to each drum individually, and then use buses, so for instance I send all my kicks to a kick bus and all my snares to a snare bus etc... and then I send all my drums to a drum bus as well. Im sure there's tutorials for everything i've just said.

  • @OfficialGlowbox yeah that makes sense, gonna try the bus technique since it sounds more organized than having individual drum hits all over the place

  • @OfficialGlowbox yeah i know about using buses, just didnt know the basic drum loading technique since in things like reason you had a specific drum machine whereas here you're just dragging samples into tracks

  • @neeharavi Oh sorry for sounding patronising then ;) i think there's a drum machine like you just described in Logic but i find using multitracks easier.

  • @OfficialGlowbox yeah im more of a drum machine guy, each to his own i guess :)

  • Thank u for posting this :)

  • Great tutorial...Explained in a way that's easy to understand. Cheers.

  • If you repeditively tap to 30 seconds in the video it looks like hes choking on cock

  • If you hold 7 it looks like hes jacking off

  • the keyboard is a Korg M1 right?

  • Give us an example....then explain...too much talking!

  • You guys do it real nice. Thanks for the tut. Heaps of tricks

  • wow, thanks guys. a lot of good info inthis. i'm glad i clicked on this.

  • "some people layer their kicks with hi hats" What? Are you serious? i've never heard of that. I've heard of layering with another more high pitched or EQd kick. i'm going to try that trick.

  • @DeefexNYC i always put a hi hat on my kicks. got that idea after listening to a lot of mala tracks.

  • subscribed and pulling up a chair :)

  • Love the videos mates! Great tips :)

  • Nice one Guys .. Keep up the gd work !

    Tom

  • You guys are awesome! You break it down very clearly. Thank you.

  • I love how honest you are about how you produce your music and what your using. I am the same way, if someone shows interest in music and what I'm doing then I will show them everything I know. So many producers beat around the bush about what software and samples they are using! Thanks Dodge and Fuski, much respect for you guys keep up the good work!

  • i can picture them arguing in a condesending tone about there seperate opinions

  • @dodgeandfuskitv

what kind of studio speakers are those ???? I NEED SOME SOOO BADLY

  • @TimMattaMusic Mackie HR824 mk1

  • @mtehbob thankyou :D!

  • Thank you guys so much for doing this. I've been making mashups a lot but really didn't have much (if any) gameplan in terms of how to start out production wise. Your tutorials have been a great help with getting me on track. Cheers to you.

  • Can someone help me please?Does anyone knows if you got to sidechain in a drum and bass track?I mean are you actualy sidechaining the bass on the drum loop or something?Thanx :)

  • @Wondien I can help u if u want just email me cosmicshelf at gmail dot com.. I know a lot about sidechaining

  • What Program Are They Using? :o

  • @Bensthebest103839

They use : steingberg cubase sequencer.

Look also into ableton life, apple logic, pro tools,fl studio.

  • I get the feeling that they hate each other secretly lol

  • @Sniffting No - they're just British

  • @Sniffting Ha You no!

  • lol :D same monitor like me!

  • @sydebewbzgigity he said it was Cubase at first part of film

  • what eq plugin are you using?

  • what daw is that?

  • These are the chillest set of men ever...

  • Yes dodge and Fuski!! you guys couldnt explain things any clearer and have the respect of all the aspiring music producers! cheers guys!

  • also i have many different styles so dont just listen to the first tune and close it, if your to going to check it x

  • this video's helped quite alot guys, before this i didnt know about eqing. i need a proper compression tutortial aswell. everyone tells me i could be big cause i can litterally recreate everyones basses and make my own very unique ones too. just my mix downs are poo, go on my soundcloud its /raptorexperimental tell me how i can improve :)

  • yes thank you for sharing your knowledge!!!!

  • man are them booogers givving you greef...pick the bloody thing properly

  • I used to make some pretty impressive dubstep, till i took an arrow to the knee..:(

  • GUYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS AREEE THE SHITTTTTTTTTTTT

  • You guys are always talking about the vengeance samples, is there a vengeance sample pack you recommend buying?

  • Does anyone have any suggestions to where is a good place to get some nice dubstep able rides/crashes? In all my sample packs I have about 3 decent ones and am seriously desperate for some new ones. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

  • 4:30 Did he just say the sub sits between 100 and 200Hz? Pro.

  • Awesome tutorial, Dodge, I can definitely Identify with you on getting my head wrapped up in compression...

  • Keep up the tutorials!

  • could you make a tutorial that goes into a little deeper explanations with EQing?

  • god dammit i wish i was from the UK...

  • Cool tutorial guys ;) cheers for that. ^^

  • Are they in there 20s?

  • yes ! 192 comment biioootch !

  • hey guys. i totally appreciate everything you're doing. you've cleared up a bunch of stuff that i was confused on. is there any way i could get any details on which vengeance packs you utilize? i've realized my samples aren't up to par, and some guidance would be great. thanks!

  • thank you!! you have cleared up a lot of questions I had. keep on keepin on!

  • vengeance samples huh? alright looks like time to get some cuz usually i have problems with my kicks and snares that i have to Compress the crap outa them lol

  • Dodge seems like the creativity, and fuski seems like the brains.

  • You guys seem really chill. Thanks for the tutorials! They're very helpful and you guys do indeed get right to the important stuff. (As dodge put it, no hand waving advice here) Cheers!

  • Are they Mackies?

  • Is there any particular reason why you guys don't use a sampler for your drum programming? Just wondering if there's an advantage to using separate audio tracks for each drum element versus drawing in midi notes. Thanks!

  • SO FUCKING SICK!!!!!!

  • By far the best tutorials around. I have learned so much by watching ur 4 tutorial videos in a day than I have reading and doing it on my own in 4 months. Cheers!

  • the left dude has to stop looking at the camera. i LOVE you guys for doing this but STOP LOOKING INTO MY SOUL! freaks me out! just act like you guys are being interviewed by FM and look at an imaginary camera man

  • the left dude has to stop looking at the camera. i LOVE you guys for doing this but STOP LOOKING INTO MY SOUL!

  • you are my fav producers. and then i found a video of you guys giving tips and tricks. creamdream.

  • Any Vids up on Rees's and Hoover Bass???

  • finnaly someone admits using sample nothings wrong with it i use samples but not loops

  • Parallel Compression <3

  • great tutorial

  • Does anyone know how they got the syncopation on the high hats? I took the same breakbeat and sliced it at the same section but its still rather "Straight" sounding compared to what they have there

  • I like the way these guys work so far. i ve watched tons of tuts and even though i learned nothing new, ive always felt that there were easier ways of achieving a great sound. keep it simple. Will def check out future vids. u guys rock!

  • this is actually a GREAT video and i must say you guys do point out almost everything! wow!

firstly, thanks for great tips i didnt know

secondly, i only JUST heard some of ur material.. and i must say in joy i slapped the spouse! (i do not usually condone violence)

so keep up the great work yooz be doing, and IF u ever have curiosity into whos coming up FAST on some next shit. then come visit my channel for alternate fusions!

    BLESS OUTZ YO

    - JNp (The Speshaliss)

  • Thanks for these tutorials much appreciated!.

  • thanks alot tht really was a good to the point tutorial... hopefully theres loads more to come, thx again

  • I'm so glad that u could take time to impart ur knowledge...tis a rare thing...D&F for the win

  • Really helped guys, just a noob but it really helped! thank you!

  • @dodgeandfuskitv so not just using the best samples but also using the right samples with the right samples year?

  • Is the best way to go about inputting the drum samples to put them in through groove agent and then group them up and draw them on in the key tool? seems a lot of effort to drag each sample onto a audio track and duplicate it out etc etc? Im learning from scratch after moving from fl studio and these tutorials are amazing, shame theres so long between them! cheers.

  • How much did they pay you for the empty coke bottle in the background? Just kidding :D

  • Awesome tutorial guys! Quick question, What sort of monitors are those?

  • @CantUseNibbleThis Mackies from the HR range I think. Couldnt tell you exactly.

  • This is awesome guys. I'd be interested in hearing what kind of processing you use on your bounced basslines.

  • big fan. love the music =)

  • not exactly mozart but kids seem to like it

    HAHAHAHA im dying

  • Yea you guys basically rule. I love you!

  • MOAR!!

  • great tutorial, I'm a drummer who's starting to get deep into production. Any tips for recording acoustic drums. I'm going to be triggering the snare and kick (possibly have hi-hats and other trig pads) so I can apply samples to those MIDI notes. I really want to have an organic feel, bonham heavy style. Even tho I know thats gunna fly in the face of the tight sound dubstep needs, I think it could be great for making loops, applying human swing to beats. Any thoughts on this?

  • 10000% right about starting with a good kick/snare

  • Great tutorial guys, and can't wait to see you over here in New Zealand for Neon Break!

  • ZERO Dislikes..Now that's what I like to see. Come to American guys, Preferably the Crofoot Ballroom In Pontiac, Michigan. =D

  • Do you guys get stoned right before you make songs? :)

  • Could you elaborate more on quantizing (or randomization of quantize) and adding swing to audio files via cubase on audio tracks?

I know within the midi editor when using groove agent or the like you can easily added a certain % of swing/random Q (so everything isnt so robotic) and I reckon you guys are doing this to an extent from hearing your tunes.

Do you take added certain % of random quantize after placing audio files and if so what range do you find is a good one?

    You guys ROCK!

  • Fantastic video! Cannot wait for the bassline one. You guys are really awesome for doing this. Please keep them coming!

  • Thanks guys! Nice and clear, without hiding anything.

  • great video! cant wait to see more!

  • Also when you collab with someone and they use another programme, wat do you guys do ? just wondering how it all works. thanks

  • @Synthlinemusic as far as i know they export all stems in wave and send it to the other person without effects as far as i know

  • how long does it normally take for you to do the drums for a track ? or finish a whole track ? thanks for the tutorial, subscribed and everything

  • love your work guys, im a 19 yr old producer from perth, aus. this tutorial was amazing, i understood everything you were saying you explain things well. and i can relate to using the wrong samples in tunes. for a while i used hip hop snares with reverb in drum and bass tracks ahaha

  • great vid. audio is a bit muddy but i'm sure you guys are aware of that haha

  • Can't wait for #2. Would help if you add some info on ableton/fl/logic/reason/etc pluin equivalents

  • Looking forward to #2 and onward, great tut, also big ups on using Cubase, personal favorite DAW

  • Comment removed

  • Didn't quite get it. What programs are you using? Are you guys using Cubase 6 just for drums and stuff or are you creating full songs with it? Is there any other programs you use for creating music? Please answer, thanks. BTW - your tracks are SICK, new tracks coming soon?

  • @locksh We use Cubase 6 for everything tune making wise. This was just the first tutorial, which focused on drums. We're gonna be doing a bassline one very soon watch this space ;)

  • @dodgeandfuskitv

The main reason I wanted to watch this wasn't so much the tutorial, but to learn how to pronounce Fuski's name.

    I wasn't sure if it was FOO-Ski, or FUH-Ski.

Thanks to you guys, now I know. ^_^

Great tute btw, even though I use Ableton.

  • Great vid!! Please do more on bass design and patterns and making them fit and work. Chopping and arranging :)

  • What kind of software do you recommend using for new producers getting into making music? Obviously you guys are using Cubase here, but have you sampled, say FL Studio or Logic Pro? I don't have any experience with Cubase, do you think its worth investing in if I've already become somewhat attached to FL Studio?

  • AWSUM! glad my pestering you on aim paid off haha

    thanks!

  • This was great guys, you spoke in a language I could understand! Can't wait for the next tutorial!

  • Bassline Tutorial?

  • @AnTiCamPr watch this space... (and subscribe) ;)

  • could you do a tutorial on layering different sounds to make thick basslines that don't come across as messy or maybe one on how to make a drone/swell type sound for background ambiance to fill out the mix ??? thanks for the vid. looking forward to more :D

  • hey guys, i just want to say how much we all appreciate you taking the time to make these videos and helping out young producers, it shows how much you guys are dedicated to your fans. one thing I might suggest is in the next tutorial, could you try recording directly from the computer so we can see what you guys do in more detail. And record through a mic so we can hear you clearly, no criticism to you at all keep making amazing music and im sure you guys will only get better :D x

  • @GAZOFNAZ we're gonna use Fraps next time for video feed. regarding audio the video camera we have doesn't have a direct/mic input and cubase locks out other audio devices in windows when it's open so we can't record audio inside the computer. only real solution is getting another computer plugged into the mixer and recording via that & syncing back up but to be honest we tried it before and the editing was a nightmare... we'll look into options though

  • @dodgeandfuskitv oh okay, well no worries im sure they'll turn out fine. btw is there much of a difference to working in ableton instead of reason for what you guys are doing??

  • @dodgeandfuskitv

Just so you know fraps is ingame related only, or am I still using an older build. Better to get camtasia or anything related, it also captures your audio created with Cubase.

    Keep this up!

  • @dodgeandfuskitv you can get around that problem by deselecting the option that says "release driver when application is in background" on the devices tab at the top.

  • Hey guys. Im trying to recreate everything you do in this video(s) and it would be very nice, if you could actually name the samples youve used. For example, you can see the Kick if a "hard" kick from Vengeance Essential House Vol. 2.. but not the exact number.. you know what i mean? its quite hard to figure it out, since there are so many kicks (for example) could you name them and write them in the description? that would help me sooo much

  • do one for bass? :D

  • Nice and concise tutorial, nothing particularly new for me, but I'm looking forward to future ones. It would be great if you did one on mixing, especially with how you mix the drop to get it really heavy. And a tutorial on leads wouldn't do any harm either.:)

  • i was wondering if you could make a Pt2 to the drums tut and talk a little about reverbing drums and fx channels, stereo/mono? the advantages/disadvantages?

  • Fantastic! Do you haven the cymbals and high hats sidechained to the kicks? Is there reverb on the drum bus or on any of the individual channels? Cheeeers.

  • Thank you so much for doing this. It's always great to see how other producers do their thing... helps tremendously.

  • Great video! You hit almost every point that other masterclasses include/stumble through and you even included important caveats that many miss. All in a short video and you guys are entertaining to watch. Only things I can think of that you missed are 1) general compression advice for samples that need it and 2) send FX

    Looking forward to the others!

  • So do you guys write all the drums and EQ it first, then you go with the bassline and all the other stuff?

  • So do you guys write all the drums and EQ it first, then you go with the bassline and all the other stuff?

  • Quality video this guys, thanks very much for all the help, when is the next one out?

  • awesome!!! hey Dodge, get the booger picked outta there :)

  • seriously amazing work guys! need to get a bit better with screen casting but @leaguemate hit it right on the head. anything from you all is truly appreciated!!!!

  • @dropthatbassline They asked what we futured tutorials we'd like to see.

I merely answered that question. Since they're proffesionals and im really from it, I believe any tutorial they do will learn me allot. However i have been training for a long time and my biggest issue is binding/making leads with wobbles. Im not asking that they show me how they make a lead for they're sick tunes, but how you make a basic lead and get it to fit with modulated basslines.

  • seriously amazing work guys! need to get a bit better with screen casting but @leaguemate hit it right on the head. anything from you all is truly appreciated!!!!

  • thank you for doing this, keep em coming, please!
