this song still makes me cry... I was watching a re-run special with JD on PBS a few years back. He sang this song... It kills me because my dog was also dying and I heard this song on that special... that was the last night i had with my dog. That is the quickest way to make a grown man cry is to take away his dog, and this song reminds me of that last night of a life-long bond.

@darkhallucination I almost wish I could be normal and know what it's like to feel that way about animals, but due to abuse, I hate dogs. I feel no compassion for them. I wish I was normal sometimes, cuz people see me as a monster for not loving animals. I just don't. I feel nothing about them when they die. I don't seek to torture them or anything, but I only care about humans.

@LanceHertford Before your time on the planet is over I would try to change that. If a creature has the same senses as we do you can assume it experiences life in a similar manner... Imagine being something that only exists to live, it doesn't care about money or damaging the earth; then imagine it being tortured needlessly. I don't have anything against eating meat, but at the same time nothing alive deserves to be tortured... Including you. Animals are simple, as we should be.

@torgoth74 Well, I think for me, it's not unlike women who get raped by men, and their feelings toward men. I cannot help it. It doesn't mean I want to be this way. Also, I definitely can't stand watching a dog being tortured. That look on their face of not comprehending- being confused like they did something wrong- THAT I can identify with, having been raped as a child. So, don't feel much for them, UNLESS someone is torturing them. Then, I would be moved to do something.

I grew up listening to John's music. I learned how to write songs and play guitar through him. This song in particular was an inspiration for one of my newer songs called "Everything For Love". My grandfather passed on Easter Sunday, 1984, I was 5 yrs old, but, this was the song he used to sing to me when I was most afraid and needed comfort...I didn't understand the words, but, the love he sang it with enthralled and soothed me. I am a grown woman now, 2 kids of my own, and recently started a new relationship, this song makes me realize what my grandfather was wishing for me when I was a child and he sang this...he wanted me to find a love that makes me feel this way.
