It isn't as if what goes onto the track is whole. There are plenty of bits that come off a typical banger that go back into the market to keep some classics going. It's something that Mr. Wilperson neglected to pass on in his critique on the sport, not to mention that for every misinformed driver that races a classic that might have been better kept for restoration, there's at least one person that is up to his eyes in debt trying to restore something that might be better off wrecked. I've hears that the classics on the Banger racing track often are stripped for good parts, to keep other cars of the same type (but in way better shape) roadworthy. The carcas then often gets a Ford engine of another old block in it so they can race the remains. In that respect Classic banger racing isn't that bad at all. Allthough there still always be people around who do care about cars at all.
@classicczech this is very true. i had a deal once swapping rover p5 interiors,lights,etc for rolling shells with a guy who restored p5's and he had some shells that were just too far gone. a lot of banger drivers also have a mint classic car or 2 tucked away in a garage.
You know, regardless of the car I'd rather it go down in a battle than be freshened up and only driven on weekends or to shows, real cars are treated like cars, not jewels.
Ideally I'd drive a car on more then just weekends, and not every car is fun to drive. I had a Honda Z600 that stalled like crazy and then theres the VW old Van which is darn roomy but slow and handles awful, fun to ride in but not to drive.
@Ryoku75 you have a point, but some of the pre 68's should be kept and restored, i meant just think of the value in another 20 years time!! in saying that, i agree, all the shit cars be it, british, yank, russian ctc should be fucked up as much as possible. i mean, who the hell is going to want to see an austin princess at a car show in the future??
@TG1986IRL Who knows, VWs are ridiculous in prices over here and they weren't bad cars but yeesh, they aren't that good either! Especially type 2s which drive like crud!
