Used to love those unexpected hits in the 70s, you never knew what you were going to get next. One hit wonders then gone without so much as a by your leave. None of the 'celebrity' nonsense you get today with nonentities who think they're famous if they happen to be caught on cctv.
One of those novelty songs that you either like or dislike, and I like this a lot. Thanks for posting it - it brings back happy memories of nights out with the lads back in good old Sunderland.
@scotsmaninusa No he's not, he's a session musician called Paul Atkinson. He's played with mostly unknown London based bands, Bees Make Honey, Jucie on the Loose etc. but has backed some big names in his time too Etta James to name but one. He was playing in Swing and Rock 'n' Roll bands for years, but seems to have lost his pazazz more recently which is a shame he's only 60 pretty young for a rock drummer!

I don't know why so many people rag on this song. It was better than a lot of depressing and characterless songs that often get in the top 40. People take themselves too seriously these days in order to be able to understand what rock'n'roll really is about: letting your hair down and having fun!
Yes, me too! To my mind, that was the best part of Yellow Dog's 1978 hit "Just One More Night". Unfortunately, however, the 'telephone bit' was conspicuous by its absence from the TOTP footage [above]. Shame.
This guys name kenny young - read up about him on wikepdedia...amazing resume!! doesnt make the song quite as corny after you imagine how many millions he made from writing shit and most not so shitty from songs like this! haha
At the time I hated this bloody awful song. It was like marmite you either hated it or you loved it. but wow!!! how great to find it and what a trip down memory lane. thanks for posting

yeah too rite, as Keith Richards once said, 'Rock n'Roll shouldn't be analysed, or even thought about deeply!'

Listen to the Hihats on the drums after the instrumental section goes into the next verse(1.55), simple but tasty. Classic song!

I like this and the follow-up "Wait Until Midnight" was even better but failed to make the Top 50.
