As far as jumping far enough from an ancestral form and into a brand new species, we've not cataloged it happening. But we haven't been watching very long, genetically speaking. We know the Simian Immunodeficiency Virus has been around for a long while but not exactly how long, and we know HIV is its direct descendant and WAY newer on the scene.
Each person's body is like an island in the Galapagos, One guy ate raw monkey meat, bleeding gums mixture, one SIV became a new variant. History now.
I hear your argument man. I am sure there is some truth with the law of the jungle and survivial of the fittest darwin points. Most of the puzzle is unsolved, but in God I trust. Amen
On a lighter note, I am sure that the Jesus fish would have made friends with Darwin fish. Jesus being a man of forgiveness and understanding.

Primordial tide pools were the most likely of labs.
Darwin's grandfather was a missionary. Darwin traveled the globe with him when he was a boy.
He noticed the same creatures in far distant places, and saw how they varied in special (specie) ways to feed on differing diets, etc. Island creatures display this to an extreme. He noticed it all as a young teen. And it gestated. He wouldn't publish his first papers on the subject, for fear of excommunication.
He's thought of a an demonic atheist among fundamentalist Christians.

all truth should be examined and studied
just as fossils should be studied as acurate as possible....
the use of one jaw bone to form a monkey man , is bad science

I know one Hassidic (orthodox) Jewish dude, and some of his family. They don't feel freaked out by Darwin. It seems to be thought of as just science just doing its job, and explaining (or attempting to explain) the physical world. But the fundamentalist Christians I know, including my closest family, are seriously offended by Darwin.
Basically, evolution within a genus is ok, but not with a new species.
So new species must pop into our universe from someplace else? Complete & as is?

@davematherly virus are programmed to mutate....but remain a virus....adaption..........the do not replicate into bacteria
jumping from one species to another....just the strong preying on food....
monkey to human is a short jump.....still a primate
no different then horse and donkey
the common flu....you can give it to your wife...then get it back as a different strain.....but still , just a virus

changes can happen and creatures could go from say mastodon to elephant
just like a horse can breed a donkey
or a donkey and a horse
male of one and female of the other..........forms 2 different creatures...........both quite steril
possibly one could be born that could reproduce....but they will not make a cow
normally chromizones are damaged
we could all be a lab experiment
pushed along just to see what happens
mostly we travel down hill

with physics in mind...God would be a being of energy... which is not unscientific at all...our brain works on energy.....no energy....no thought....
energy is everywhere, so in fact God could be just that

We know when the power dies down all physical functions cease.
We don't know if brain shutdown leads to hallucinations of being with dead relatives or if it actually happens.
I suppose we'll only learn this from experience.
Until then we can postulate, guess, take a firm stance on the matter, or just let it be.
I cannot pretend to know, one way or another.
