@karlc37 Hey, I came across this and saw you were the bass player on this song. I really like the album Chimera. I'm sorry to have learned he passed about 6 years ago.
I just crept up on this CD... I will NEVER forget, just hanging in Milwaukee one weekend, picked up this CD and was HOOKED... I still have it, most of it is on my MP3 player now, and it is still CLASSIC.... Everyone who hears a track from this thinks it is BRAND NEW... Thats how slept on... RIP. J you were a GREAT!!!
this was a talented ass brotha! I played the hell out his two cd's. Hurry this way again, You should be mines, La la song, thinkin' about you were my stuff! He died to soon..but it was God will, not my will amen
He was also in a movie,"Out of Sync", with LL Cool J. There was a scene in the movie at a club and in the middle of the dance floor was a guy playing a saxophone with a white Kangol on. That was J. Spencer.
This is music! Why can't i Have grown up with this kind of Music! This was a nice callaboration of hop hop and jazz b spencer. i'm 14 years old, im growwin' up with music coming from people like soulja boi!.... R.I.P spence, R.I.P
It's obvious you didn't listen to the album because most of it talks about blending HIP HOP WITH JAZZ. Listen and take some notes before you speak youngster. I lived it while you're just reading the history book thinking you know it. The album's called Chimera don't download it, go buy it, read the linear notes and educate yourself.
I am not correcting you about what he rapped about.
You said that he blended Jazz with Hip Hop, not Rap. But Hip Hop is a culture, containing more than just the music. It also includes B boying, tagging, beat boxing, and scratching. Rap is simply just the music.
Just found out today he's no longer with us. After some research, found out he passed away back in July/2005. I feel awful. He's one of my all time favorites... RIP
Wow! I'm just finding about that J. Spencer died. I remember him for his hit "Hot Pants". Although it may be a little late, I'm in shock. May he R.I.P.
I liked this track the moment I first heard this way back in 1993, the perfect hybrid of hip hop and jazz. J Spencer was very overlooked as a jazz artist, but people who know what his talents were appreciate what he contibuted to music, R.I.P., music misses you.
Jeffrey Spencer McCormick, who under the moniker J. Spencer got to live his dream of being a professional musician, died July 9 at his Pleasanton home. He was 36.
jeff and i grew up together in oakland, and both ended up in the music industry, we were always trying to support and encourage each other through the ups and downs. i really miss being able to call and talk to him.god speed my brother.
I am the acoustic bass player in the video. J was very respectful and a professional to work for. RIP J

One of the unknown pioneers that blended Jazz with Hip Hop (not Rap thank you). Even today his album Chimera is still a head bobber.
