  • Absolute legend. Wish i had the chance to see this man play!

  • R.I.P

    William Ralph 'Dixie' Dean

    1907-1980

  • people including dixie say tg jones was the best player in the team dixie played in at everton.

  • @thetoon99: T.G. Jones was definitely a class centre-half for both Everton & Wales IMO.

  • Ye, and the balls were like 10x heavier than what they are today aswell!!

  • Reminds of Gangs of New York ending! lol...But this if anything describes what it means to "know your history" as we say, every toffee fan should know this legends story!

    NIL SANTIS NISI OPTIMUM

  • LEGEND!!!

  • why you watching it then ali . nob.

  • The greatest centre forwad ever to play the game. End of....

It's a disgrace the way he is over-looked.

    Nil Satis Nisi Optimum...

  • such a shame...alot of people tend to ignore pre second world war feats. and sky are trying thier best to ignore everything pre 1992.

but dixie will always live on and he was the best english center forward ever

  • Goosebumps.

When's the documentary out & will it be uploaded to Google Video or the like?

  • Check out the extended trailer!!!

  • how would he be held in the same esteem as pele yi right he was good was dixie and a outstanding goalscorer.put players like pele were better and fellow english players of around that time finney, matthews and oh yi there the small matter of the best ever coming from england duncan edwards.

  • how proud to be blue does that make you

  • Great video that. Thank you for posting it, made up to see that footage. A genius and a gentleman. A crying shame there isn't more moving images of him available. All Evertonians , and genuine football fans, should get hold of John Keith's book and audio cassettes on Dixie. Unfortunately, his star was fading by the time was broke out, so I don't think that greatly diminished his career. I had the pleasure of meeting his daughter - an absolute gem. I'm sure he was suitably proud of her.

  • It's not that the War finished his career - more that it seemed to divide football history. Post war is often seen as better than Dixie's era (in the same way that the Premiership is seen as better than the 60's, 70's and 80's) but the truth of it is that great footballers are timeless.

  • I agree with what you say. I think part of that was the relative paucity and poor quality of film footage in the media at the time. It's maybe difficult for the modern day fan to truly appreciate former players if there's not that much film footage of them to view. But the records speak for themselves.........

  • your a re correct people are to quick to slate legends like george best and the greatest of alltime duncan edwards they say players of the past would be crap today edwards would have ran rings around ronaldo and knowed him out with his power runs even with the 50's fittness levels.

  • an inspiration to the beautiful game

  • fantastic man

    fantastic player

    goalscoring legend

  • Its true....if it wasnt for the war..Dixie would be up there with Pele..Hes my No.1 all time Evertonian....
