Wow! You have spoken the words many adoptees can't express without feeling guilt. I applaud you and your courage! I am an international adoptee from Italy and always felt alone. But recently when I started to research my roots and found so many like myself. We can comfort each other and hope that people will recognize our pain. Unfortunately, it is now happening in Greece and children are abandoned and not allowed to stay with their biological families and that is the only answer? I say NO!
No every adoptee feel the same, Carmen is adopted and she never wanted to met her biological parents and never want too and she get annoyed when her adoptee parents said want to meet her real parents she got enraged and said no. but again thanks to all this I WOULD NEVER ADOPT :D
out about this issue. Prior to this, the viewpoint of the adoptee has not been heard. How are we to know or assume for that matter that he is alone in his experience or feelings? I don't think this is an issue of just frustration...I think he has a very genuine and real concern about the emotional health of the international adoptee. Kudos to you Peter for your willingness to have a voice when there appears to be much opposition! This is an argument that needs to be heard!
While I am neither an adoptee or an adoptor, I do think Peter brings up some points worth considering. If someone is pledging to care for a child, that also should include their mental health as well. I have read Mr. Dodd's book and considered it to be thoughtful and insightful. He brings up some very relevant points. It is true that not all international adoptions end up negatively, but all sides of the argument should be heard and considered. Peter has been very courageous in speaking
It sounds like his problem is unfortunately he was part of the trend adoptions in that time period, that's not an adoption issue, that's a people issue. If people are adopting for the right reasons things as trivial as nationality don't matter. It sounds like he's just picking something to focus his frustration on. (Children aren't trees)
It appears that this video montage was edited by either Mr. Dodds or someone using his name. None of the balancing arguments appear on this video.
The analogy of transplanting a tree from the Bahamas to Canada is erroneous. If placed in the right environment and with the right care, the palm tree can flourish and grow. It appears that Mr. Dodd's negative adoption experience has jaded his perspective of how valuable ANY adoption should be.
OMG - I don't know where to start. This guy is a TOTAL MORON. He has know idea what he's talking about. Just being an adopted person does NOT make you an expert on international adoption and this man is pulling his statements out of thin air. As a mother to an amazing daughter who was adopted from Russia I can assure you that her experiences thus far have been nothing but positive. Those of you that don't understand why we don't adopt here in the USA - how many children have you adopted?
THERE'S NO SUBSTITUTE FOR FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE..HE'S NOT A MORON. UNLESS U ARE INTERNATIONALLY ADOPTED, YOURSELF, HOW MUCH DO U REALLY KNOW??? BTW, I AM INTERNATIONALLY ADOPTED...
My heart cries out for all those defenseless children who get snatched out or sought out for adoption agencies for money. As an Ethiopian if you ask me 4 years ago I wouldn't know anything about how adoption runs. But in a year I got consumed by it after I researched and see how big corporate control the most powerful politicians. Continue to do harm to children pretending to do good. Thank you . please continue let's fight this injustice.l
Peter Dodds is a man with great courage and conviction to share his truth and stand up to the international adoption industry. After watching this video, I read Peter's autobiography titled Outer Search Inner Journey. The book is a page-turner and an amazing story!
I am so glad that OUR daughter knows her roots and that she is NOT in the dark as to where she came from. She is part Native American and so proud of that heritage!
As a child raised with great love by my biological parents, I've always had the narrow view that adopted children were lucky to get adopted. My thoughts have never gone beyond that point. In listening to Peter and the salient points he makes on behalf of internationally adopted children and their birth mother, I have a whole different view and understanding. Wow, I can't imagine their plight. Peter, thank you for sharing yourself and enlightening me on the subject.
If all German guys are this handsome I'm moving to Germany!
