1st things 1st I. Thomas was the best point in the 80's on the east, I'M FROM DETROIT SO I'M FOR SURE A FAN. jordan is the illest. in those days you had to have at least 1 legend and 3 all stars to compete. classic shit
Are you kidding me with that leap at 1:00? There is no doubt in my mind that Jordan could have been a gold medalist in the long jump, the high jump, the 100 meter, and 200 meter dash. Allegedly he ran a 4.3 40-yard dash. He also is the only guy I've seen that would grab the ball with both hands off a steal and a breakaway and then start his dribble. I don't think the refs ever saw that before either because they never called a travel on it.
Lots of good/great players in this game : MJ, Pippen, Gilmore, Oakley, Dantley, Thomas, Dumars, Laimbeer, Rodman. Thanks for posting. That's a real bad shot by Jordan with 0:07 left in regulation (5:49), and he probably should have been called for an offensive foul.
Great Video, people forget about one of the all-time scoring machines in Adrian Dantley. This is where he played fof a contender in Detroit and scored less, but when he played in Utah, he put up some gawdy statistics, averaging more than 30 points a game (four years in a row) while shooting better than 56% from the field, at just 6'4"! This is Michael Jordan at his physical best, his younger years when he would go out and obliterate his defenders, both offensively and defensively. Vintage NBA!!
And he did it in a "MUCH" physical defensive era. These dumb ass kids today actually think shooting 45%--46% is pretty good LOL!!
That's how "LOW" the standards have been set for today's players/game. They had to change the Defensive Rules to accomodate perimeter players that enabled them to score more (Ask Kobe) & implement a 3 Sec Rule that opened up the lanes to make it "EASIER" to get to & score around the lanes due to the Big men NO LONGER being able to stay in the paint..
Black, I'll admit that today's basketball player may be a better athlete (not all), but by no means is today's player A BETTER PLAYER. Don't argue with today's fan either, I had to learn for myself that I'm a bigger fool to argue a point with someone who is a complete idiot when it comes to knowing the game. Here are my All-Time All-NBA Teams (1st and 2nd):
Because I'm only 36 years old, I don't rank Wilt, Russell, Oscar, Jerry West, Walt Frazier, John Havlicek etc. because I didn't sse them play regularly, and I feel that ESPN Classic, Hardwood Classics, Vintage NBA and the highlights are not enough evidence for me to make an honest assessment.
U "HAVE TO" rank 'em..they're some of the BEST that ever did it..their resume & accolades speak for itself. I'm younger than U, I'm 33 & I didn't see them either, but I know awesome TALENT when I see it.
U said it yourself: "today's basketball player 'May' be a better athlete (not all), but by NO means is today's player A BETTER PLAYER"
There's "ALWAYS" been ELITE guys with Marginal or Low physical ability that were some of the best in the game..i.e. Duncan, McHale, Nowitzki & Bird..
In 1983, the league AVERAGE for FG%, was 48.6% & 75% in FT's, & 23.8% in 3's as a 'bail out' shot.
Tree Rollins "AVG'D" 4bpg & Moses Malone "AVG'D" 15rpg in an era with LESS MISSES!
In '83, A. English took 1857 shots, M. Aguirre took 1589 shots, G. Gervin took 1553, which shows you the UNSELFISHNESS of the league in this era, compared to the NBA in 2008.
Kobe in 2006, took 2173 shots! He missed 1195 (45%), which is close to how many shots these other guys took in a single season!!
everyone remembers MJ from the second threepeat, sometimes the first. But the late 80s Jordan was by far the most exciting version. Kobe, as great a scorer as he is, didnt have nearly the speed and explosiveness that MJ had as a youngin.
i'm surprised nobody mentioned that dunk at the 2:31 mark jordan almost jumped over that dude...if they guy didn't have his hands extended up like that jordan would of cleared him easily. he had to be 48 plus on that jump right there
Thanks for the three videos in a row . The one against SAS is amazing. At that point jordan made it look like 40 points was a bad day. He's just unique. By the way great way of putting the video together.
I think only 1-4 times. Not sure, but definitely not more than 4. They mentioned the # a couple of times during games over the years when he's had 4-5 fouls.
i know it is annoying to keep saying it, but look at the dunk at 58 sec. literally only two dribble from the other half of the court. the speed and the body extention, the power and the grace, all in one and it is unbelivable. not so sure anyone else in the league now could do that.
The Pistons and Bulls were both two up and coming teams. This was 87 though and the Celtics were still the team to beat in the East.

Old school B Ball is the best....and nice to see Adrian Dantley in this vid. He was probably the most underrated player of the 80's.
hitman2070 2 years ago
One could make an argument for that..
blackadam06 2 years ago
Yeah Dantley averaged 24 a game for his career... 6 time All Star too, and hardly anybody knows about him. The dude was a scoring machine.
hitman2070 2 years ago
Yeah he was a BEAST in the post..U COULD NOT check him with one player down there..
blackadam06 2 years ago
yes i agree i also think alex english was very underrated in the 80's as well
JCR1992 2 years ago
underrated scorer but the pistons won as soon as we lost that sucker dantley
ramzeze3 2 years ago
Blame that on he & isiah not ever gettin' along LOL!!
Isiah wanted to bring in his boy Mark Aguirre & went to team owners & management & pushed for that trade. B4 U know it, Dantley was gone LOL!!
blackadam06 2 years ago
I think Alex English has that title.

Exactly..
Kobe patterned his game after the MJ circa 1996-98 because there's NO WAY he could ever do the things "THIS" MJ did from a physical standpoint.
I've said it before & I'll say it again, kobe right now, is a "Poor Man's version of MJ circa 1996-98..but those AREN'T MJ's "PRIME" years..

I forgot how good Adrian Dantley was. He use too lead the Pistons in scoring when he played for them. A true class act.
