Do these on the BRIDGE pickup (or a combo of the BRIDGE + NECK) if you want them to sound great. The neck pickup often makes things sound too bassy and flubby.
Michael angelo batio basically uses the same tone in his songs. Maybe you should look at some of alter bridges live songs, or creeds for that matter when he has a solo. My favorite guitarist.

yea, Petrucci is the one to check out ! Tremonti attempts to be at Petrucci/ Vai level as a player but you can tell his skills are just not there yet. He is technical, but not polished.

@stix471 thats actually a common misconception as you should always use distortion when sweeping...maybe not always but a lot of the time because when you play on a fully clean tone the strings you hit really soft won't ring out as much but when distortion is on you will hear all of your extraneous string noise and be able to fix your technique to clean up your sweeps.
@MrJiggles4 this is true.. however distortion does hide mistakes in hitting notes as well. without distortion, yes you're right you wont hear the other strings ringing but you also have to be dead-on accurate with hitting the notes, otherwise they will buzz/not sound out properly.
@greensp4rk in short, practice with both tones but never use the tone the guy in the video has, cause no matter how clean your sweeping is it sounds like balls with those settings.

He frustrates me so much. He's clearly not a bad guitar player by any stretch, and he has a fairly decent understanding of music and what's going on, but the music he writes is so boring, its like he's just playing for a pay check. I'm all for guitarists playing the game and making a living, but now and again you think he could slip in some interesting stuff into his music.

Bumblefoot (pre Guns n' Roses) ,Guthrie Govan, Steve Morse (pre Deep Purple), Scott Henderson, John Mclaughlin, Andy Timmons, Brett Garsed, TJ Helmrich, Mattias IA Eklundh, Mike Keneally, Brent Mason, Carl Verheyen. Sure, not as successful as Mark, but to me all are much much better musicians. Just see what you think.

@jitsa I get frustrated with Mark's playing because I know he can technically play the guitar at a rather decent level, but I don't care for the music he writes. Aside from "Bullets" by Creed I haven't really liked any of his music. There doesn't seem to be much thought in his playing to me.
guitarists you might like? You can look at my previous posts on this video, I listed a few. If your into the harder rock style, check out John Petrucci of Dream Theater, he's a good place to start.

You don't need to shred like petrucci to write something intricate and technical...i say that even tho in am a dream theater fanboy. Yeah. There is a lot of delay but there's also no denying that the man has some skills. To anyone that's ever played you can see that he has put a TON of time and effort into his playing and it shows beautifully. He makes some incredible music and I'm glad to see that his soloing is at the front of the current wave of rock music. Play on Mark.
