  • perfect sir, just what i had in mind when i first heard the song.i salute you.

  • This will be a priceless treasure for your progeny, Bob. Make as many of these as you can before you start to get old ! ! ! You Belong to me is a stellar song!

I've known it most of my life but had overlooked getting it onto my 1952 playlist prior to your encouragement. It's my subscribers who complete my channel ! !

My mate was born in 1952! It's amazing how the music remains timeless & beautiful while we mates become more & more shopworn over time.

    Isn't life funny?

  • Great work of art, I enjoyed it.

As a broadcast engineer for the Navy, I worked in many commands producing both documentaries (Combat Camera) and news stories (Navy Broadcasting Service).

I lacked the talent to make video stories myself but I watched it being done hundreds of times. This is as good as anything I have seen done and that is saying a lot since there is great talent in the Navy.

    Thanks - Doug

  • Thanks back atcha, Doug. I'm sure you have a lot of good stories you could tell. C'mon, try the water.

  • I now call my Wife: my "Home-fire"...This piece of Art here on YT, is very Dear to me Bob. Just wanted to say hello and Salute you Sir, one more time.

  • Thanks for your document...we have a good tool (youtube) to teach to the coming generations what it is history.

Thanks as well for your slow English, that allow us to understand your tale. I heard this song played in my dad's player...and it comes to my mind so many memories...

    Regards from Spain

  • Gracias, Jesus,

During my flying years I visited many wonderful places in Spain. My wife and I visited Madrid. I'm glad you like the video.

  • What a delightfully story. You Sir, reflect so amazingly what young America needs to hear from a time, it meant something to serve this Country. Bets wishes to you and your Family and thank you.

  • Thanks, Alex,

The easy part in writing it was that it was all true.

    Bob

  • You bet Bob and thanks again, I'm making sure everybody I know watches it and learn something priceless from you....

  • What an honest and touching inner diary. It moved me to tears. How Jo Stafford's song inspired you and took you down that yellow brick road of happiness. For others, that same song brought back memories of youth and unrequitted love, moments of reverie and regrets. It's all part of life : pains and joys of growing up. Thanks again for your posting. A friend from Hong Kong.

  • Thanks for your kind words, clubikon.

I love the songs that were popular when I was young, and I have begun to make videos in homage to some of those with special lyrics. My first is "Lyrics 1 - While We're Young". Maybe you might enjoy it on Youtube.

  • I was a Student Naval Aviator in south Texas in the mid 80s, and your story brings to mind many of my simulator instructors--mostly old Air Force guys; one was an F-100 River Rat and another flew Dog Sabres. What a GREAT bunch of guys!!! Another fella I was lucky enough to get to fly with later on had been a B-47 pilot.. This is a WONDERFUL story (not to mention that I LOVE Jo Stafford, and this song in particular...My wife sings a swell version of this song...

  • Glad you liked it, keden7. Dog Sabres were my first operational aircraft. I flew them for six years (1300 hours). They fit me like a glove. I hated to give them up, but the 104s made it worthwhile.

    Bob

  • What a captivating account!!! I clicked on it because I am a Jo Stafford fan. Now, while we have never met, I am a fan. I am a fan of anyone who wears the uniform of our nation! May those home fires continue to burn brightly!!

    God Bless!

  • Thanks, whynot12970. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

    James

  • I see you're an Aussie, James. I flew for 33 years and never got there, one of my few regrets. Thanks for your comment.

  • Beautiful story and family. Thanks for the forward Elaine.

  • Such a heartfelt story, I enjoyed it immensely....thankyou so much for sharing your memories....Elaine x

  • Lady Myrddin and serenityrider, thanks for your comments. I made that video as a birthday present to my wife last year. Now I dont know what to do this year!

Making videos has turned into a hobby for me. I hope to make a series of them about song lyrics, and the first is already on youtube (look under mrbobarr). Id be interested to know what you think of it.

    Bob

  • Glad you liked it, Sandra.

  • Bob Arr, It's Denny again. An OLE OLD Crew Chief of the fighters you flew, then getting recalled to active duty in the Air Force during the Berlin Crisis with you guys of the 151st, I got to see Russsia and more of the world with the best. Interestingly after joining the Gemini Space Program in St Louis, MO as a Design Engineer I was priviledged to join you in the early 1970's with the TENN AIR GUARD. I can say, "I have served with the best!" Hats off to all!

    Denny

  • Denny, thanks for the kinds words.

Someone named John seems to have started an avalanche of interest about this video, which I made for my wife's birthday.

If you guys want to have an online reunion, make a comment, and let everyone see you're still kickin'.

    Bob

  • Bob Arr,

What a treat to hear your voice, share the moments about your career with the Air Force and Air Guard and even more to share part of your heritage! Having been a crew chief on both F-86's and F-104A, Tail No. 880 in your video brings back many great menories. As on OLE Air Force First Sargeant Ben Starr, father of Bart Starr, used to say, KEEP ON - KEEPING ON! BOB YOU REPRESENT THE BEST!!

    The happy wonderer,

    Dennis
