I just read that onions can make the shelves smell bad and it is hard to remove the odor. Have you had that problem? Can the shelves be soaked in vinegar?
@Lybastolen no marinated, although they advise you do use cooked if you are doing pork or chicken, turkey. but generally you just marinate it and then dry it..
Looks like the first dehydrator I was given. I wasted a lot of time trying to scrub that sucker clean, but once they're marked, that's it, dude. And that crappy color they go, yech!
Last year I sun-dried over 500 pounds of Roma tomatoes. We also did sun-dried corn. Refried beans, from cans, dehydrates well though it has to be spread out on a pizza tin and covered with screen before put in the sun. I don't like the electric food dehydrators--- they take too much electricity.
thanks to your inspiration i began a massive campaign to store up some food. i found an unlimited supply of drums, from 55 gal. to 30 gal. as well as 5gal. buckets all food grade and from a local bakery. these are all taken in trade but the dude is very lenient on me because he knows my intentions and sympathises with our cause. i work on his small engines and do his welding. nothing major without more than enough compensation.encourage your audience to engage in as much bartering as possible
I have dehydrated food for years, I have meals that I make for backpacking or camping such as taco salad with refried beans hamburger and salsa and corn chips I crush down. I love my dehydrater it has come in handy with many meal ideas for camping trips and no need for a cooler and worries about your food going bad while out.
I recommend the Excalibur dehydrator... I have the 9 try model and it rocks... Its a little expensive but for mass dehydrating it was worth it to me...

I like to dehydrate canned sliced peaches.
Buy the gallon sized sliced peaches and dehydrate them for 12 hrs. They come out like hard candy wedges. Yummy on a hike.

Do you slice them even more or dry them straight out of the can?
LoveRise 2 years ago
Straight out of the can. I just drain the syrup and throw them on the dehydrator. No soak in lemon juice because cooked fruit won't turn brow on you.
The juice tastes good in mixed drinks too so there is no waste.

Thanks that sounds great! I like the idea of using the juice too!
