I love both of these sets of writers equally, i can see that seth is being a hypocrite, especially, given some of the people, (inc. all Mexicans) that he, and his shows have ripped on in the last 13 years. Im really reminded of the episode of southpark, where they say that family guy is goin to show a picture of muhammed on tv, Seths pissed coz he didnt have the kahunas, to beat Southpark to it! I do love american dad tho. Will the first southpark of this season be a Whitney one? FREE ALL HUMOUR
I like the tortured look on Seth's face as he watches the clip: "They've gone 20 seconds without a cut-away joke, or referencing Dazed and Confused. I just can't follow it..."
we always are taught to fight intolerance and violence that occurs around us, but what about the intolerance and violence that comes from islamic extremists?
how can we justify to limit free speech, which is probably the greatest success of western civilization, just because of a bunch of intolerant murderers
they will only learn that intimidation works and continue threatening people's lifes because of their hurt religious feelings like some big ignorant pussies
Penn was the strongest mind there, and Seth is such an arrogant child, all his answers come from a base egotistical place, and he doesn't see the big picture, and doesn't GET Matt or Trey. You can hear it in their commentaries for their shows, Matt and Trey really ARE some of the most thoughtful, moral writers today. And for Seth it's "I wouldn't do it" and it ends there.
Penn is totally right. It wasn't about making the joke really. It was about arguing that it's stupid how you can make fun of one thing but suddenly say the other is off limits. By touching this subject, they did dare to touch a moral people in general are afraid of. Seth however, has no understanding of these morals.
Matt and Trey did it because nothing they do is off limits and to say, well we cant do that...makes everything and one they ever ripped on justified to complain about that too. Its either all ok or none of it is. Seth of course decided he would tuck his dick between his legs and kneel down to the "terrorists" who say dont do that or else. Matt and Trey stuck a middle finger up to Islam and everyone else, its what they do best :) and thats why we watch their show. They are the kings of satire.
I'm impressed by the mature conversation going on here on this video page. Rare on the internet. Good work to all of you. lol Maybe there's hope after all.
It was a semi-joke but I think the point that Mat and Trey were trying to get across is freedom of expression an Ideal that most Americans I believe hold in high regard and freedom isn't free my friends. When your freedom is threatened you should fight for them in anyway not just violently but through all forms of communication. Freedom is not a guaranteed ideal...it is payed for with the blood and you have to keep fighting for it.
I kind of felt differently, I like Penn but I felt like that was a little bit of a betrayal of his friends...I realize he's just looking out for their safety and I'd be as devastated as anyone else if something did happen to them but their point stands. Either it's all ok or none of it is. The US is taking a dangerous turn by letting special interests & minorities dictate what can and cannot be said. And backlash can go both ways, just a reminder to any zealots.
He appeared to be more concerned over Matt and Trey's safety than the censorship, though. Of course Penn is always going to take the side against religious fanaticism...I don't know, maybe I misunderstood him.
Exactly. Respect is earned, too. Islam could earn a little respect by easing up on the fanaticism. And let's face it, terrorism isn't as dangerous as certain elements of the media make it out to be. You're more likely to be killed by a bee sting. And as Americans we're technically always in "danger" because Islamic fanatics have declared war on us a long time ago. We don't have to bash Islam at all. We pay taxes to a "heretical" government.
of course, people have to either hate on south park or family guy 2 hilarious shows just because of their biased opinions. why cant you just love both shows? i dont care what you think of the creators both shows are great. end of story.
Some of us really just don''t like one or the other. I've never liked Family Guy. It's cool though, I realize a hell of a lot of people do like it so it's not going anywhere. Can't argue against ratings, the proof is in the pudding, so to speak.
Moral element? They've made fun of every other religion. I'm pretty sure those that threatened, had no problem shitting on Jews, Christians and Catholics or any other religion that isn't theirs (like all do), so why are they exempt?
@eternalcrumpet You would too, if you were to critique a show that is miles ahead of you. Family Guy is only in it for cheap laughs, while South Park can be funny, intelligent, and deliver a great story.
I'm really disappointed in Seth, he has just proven what people have been saying about him for years - Family Guy, American Dad, etc. are only about gags and cheap laughs. The fact is South Park is hilarious, while still pointing out serious moral and social issues in today's society, and then even offers solutions to those problems. I hope some day we will be able to see 200 and 201 completely uncensored, I'm dying to know what Kyle, Jesus, and Santa said in the end about censorship
I lolled when McFarlane said he didn't know how he'd react in that situation, because, going by his logic, he'll never write a joke that funny to receive death threats. Which is a real shame.
Does McFarlane not understand that how funny the joke is or isn't is totally irrelevant?? First off, humour is all subjective, so what's funny enough to be shot over (going on his stupid way of thinking) to one person will be totally different to another! So who's to say what's funny enough to get killed for?? The issue is about FREE SPEECH, not humour, you dick.
Good God, the 2 who aren't Penn really are fucking idiots. McFarlane makes a stupid point. Penn points out why he's wrong. He makes the same point. Christ...
She just, clearly, doesn't know what she's talking about or where she is...
Seth is just taking up on the opportunity to talk shit about south park. He simply can't accept the fact that south park writing is far greater than that of family guy. Matt and Trey have said that they view everything as worth making fun of, and when you say that well we'll make fun of everything BUT that, that's when you're being a biggot, and I agree 100% with them.
I love how Penn takes every opportunity to throw in Seth's face that Matt and Trey are more talented than him. Seth can start three more shows and not one will be as good as southpark.
Good god! Seth McFarlene it wasn't just them trying to make a joke it was them bringing back the biggest controversy for the 200th episode! I think they were also standing up for free speech also.
I have the answer to if people can show Muhammad... YES! If you want to depict Muhammad go for it don't fear what might happen. It's called free speech people.
Id so bang that hot blonde woman, she can give her opinions all she wants. As long as she just lay there, while I do all the work saying, "Uh huh... whatever you say".
This was Seth's chance to take the high road with regards to the ongoing South Park vs. Family Guy feud ... but nope, he simply proved himself to be bitter and inferior. Again.
I do like Family Guy, though. To some extent anyway. But if you'll only offend people that aren't likely to harm you (like the disabled, ethnics, fat people etc.) but pussy out once there may be a serious ramification, then you just look like a bully.
wow why does everyone get so butthurt about everythin nowadays learn how to take a joke ffs we used to live in an ok world and now we live in a world controlled by pussies and not th good kind either
@poppers112233 just because you claim to be a 'muslim' doesn't mean you speak for 1.5 billion muslims. If you accept the prophet being insulted there you aren't a muslim
@MusicIzMySavior How fucking dare you question my faith just because I don't wish to force it on others. Just because someone draws Muhammad doesn't mean an ordinary Muslim like me has to condone it or even look at it, I can always just switch the channel if I find something to be offensive. It isn't right to force others to unwillingly abide by your own rules, all that does is kill free speech and make us Muslims appear as narrow minded dickheads like you.
@poppers112233 You aren't a muslim, I am questioning your so called faith when you admitted you eat pork, do not pray, drink alcohol, etc those are not actions of a MUSLIM. MAJOR MAJOR sins in Islam. Muslim isn't a tag you buy online, its a Religion you practice. If you do not follow the tenants of islam you are not considered a muslim full stop thats according to ISLAM.
of course it goes to far, it illustrates how americans are actually pussies, and scream like a little schoolgirl and start giving away their freedoms the moment some1 issues a credible threat of any kind.
of course americans cant handle that kind of truth.
hell, freedom of speech is the first thing they sacrificed...
@Whisper6911 yeah I was so upset at how this ended. I have an iranian pen pal who was so excited because this is a much bigger deal for her than for us for obvious reasons. And when she saw them cave in to everyhting they spoke out against it broke her heart (and mine). The only thing I take solace in is the fact that this was the doing of the producers and not trey or matt.
I love both shows. But South Park is a very unique show with cunning satire. What i like about it is it doesnt go conservative or liberal and makes fun of both sides. You can learn a lot from watching south park. Family guy is funny but more hit or miss.
You know what, anyone ho jumped up for joy about 9/11 and was happy about van Gogh's death, GO FUCK YOURSELF. Shove Mohammed up you fucking ass you bunch of cum licking pieces of shit. Your religions a fake. And kiss my ass. I would love to shove a handgranade down your fucking throat.
@rangers94ism .what the ell do you mean your religions fake>evry religion is pathetic bullshit moron.9/11 was no big deal, thousands die evrywhere int he world all day, nobody gives a shit.
<< Muslim and not offended... It is the same dumb stuff on all of our TVs.... Even worse than the "Muhammad" on SP: Larry King and the selected panel discussing how "bad" and violent Muslims are....LOL... They need to make fun of the crazy Saudi King, that would make my day..
well, no wonder seth missed the point, he's show is just for the laughs. It's just plain retarded with a mix of some smart humor. I like Family guy but it's a show with waaay lower writing skills than south park! South Park is original (the main character's aren't a american family like in every freakin animated adult serie). It as humor, moral, mystery, drama and much more.... Seth's work is just comedy and it's a cheaper kind of comedy lower than South Park's
@DiogoAlmeida95 I think you clearly do not watch enough Family Guy, there is plenty of intelligent humor that points out the good, bad, and misunderstood parts of American society and culture. Also, the main characters in South Park are all American as well. I enjoy both shows.
@RichH231 hahahahahahaha Family Guy was my favourite show for ages! you think I didn't watchesd it enough? dude, I said Family Guy's humor was 'retarded with a mix of some smart humor' not just retarded! And yes, I know South Park main characters are americans but you know, the main character on SP are 4th grade kids! that's pretty original, Family Guy main characters are a family, just like the simpsons, goode family, american dad, king of the hill, bob's burgers, cleveland show...
@DiogoAlmeida95 Agreed. S.P. contains incisive social commentary and critique, which transcends doing gags just for laughs. There's always - or at least most of the time - some kind of serious point or criticism in their satirizations. And they've satirized just about every major religion, movement, political orientation, social trend, etc. - the ones that are relevant / in the news or whatever, so M & T's attitude is: "We should not be afraid to represent / critique Islam."
stupid muslims only made it worse by having a thin skin and making a big deal out of it now every other idiot myself included feels obligated to make fun of the barbaric crybabies known as muslims
@100crawma Well you do that. The frustrating though must be, that no matter how hard you want to destroy Islam, and hate it. It will just backfire. I am a converted Muslim for 4 years now. Why? People talked a lot about the Islamic Religion and the dangours within it. I wanted to know about these dangers, yet I found nothing but peace. So frustrate all day long. More Muslims will come.
@DuxJerome Well, I'm just looking at myself. I was a non religious person, 4 years ago,and since the media has been talking about Islam in a negative way, I wanted to stand my own in discussions regarding this subject. With a very hatefull look I went into the Quran, and I came out of it thinking that this was exactly what I needed. So I converted. To me, talking about Islam in this way, will just make people convert, as they will look in to it themselves.Which to others is frustrating
@DuxJerome Well, depends on what you consider to be boring. I mean the Islamic religion, basically teaches us Muslims, to live a clean and righteous life. We, or at least I really don't care about what other people think. All we know is that we will defend ourselves if we are attacked, and trying to pay our rent to God, by helping other people. It can be boring at times. But I have to grow up some time, even though we might not want it. I figured 24 years old is a good age to mature.
My question is: Are these radical Muslims American, or from the mid-east? If they're bound by American laws, then they are the ones in the moral "wrong" becuase they have to capitulate to freedom of speech. If they're not Americans, they hypocrites for critizing (and watching) and American show, and then complaining about it.
lol all you YouTube smart people. you dont work for either show but you feel as though you can dissect them like fucking TV critics. who cares? people like one show, people like others, people like both. your youtube comments wont change that.
just like seth - to think that everything HAS TO BE a punch line.
No, some people in the comedy business actually create intelligent jokes that appeal to real issues in society. If Matt and Trey died over this - it wouldn't be because they wanted to die to get this joke out.
They would DIE over this because THEY STAND UP for free speech. And if you don't have the balls to stand up for our liberties then get the fuck out of America.
Vote Matt and Trey 2012!! or Ron Paul - either way is good
Seriously, family guy can be funny, but it's quite dumb, almost like a guilty pleasure @ times, and that's OKAY but it doesn't compare 2 the wit of South Park, South Park is funny and effortlessly has something 2 say, Trey and Matt have balls, seth really is just a matt greoning wanna-be when u get down 2 it.
I can't believe that West community is so freaked out about pissing off muslims that "we" absorb they rituals to not presenting images of Allah or Mahomed. It's crazy. For me case is simple. If you are muslim, don't watch it.
My favorite thing about this whole controversy is that Matt and Trey weren't making fun of or depicting Muhammad in any bad way. What they were doing is showing how dumb the situation is, like they do with many of there episodes, that one can't show, speak of, or even say the name of Muhammad. They weren't making fun of Muhammad they were criticizing the people who blew it out of proportion. Nobody cared that in the very same episode they showed Buddha doing coke and Jesus masturbating.
Doesn't make it right. My point is they should be allowed be pissed if people are being disrespectful of their beliefs. Fact is just because it's satire doesn't make it alright, it's still disrespectful and we all have a right to be insulted and act out on that. Just so happens muslims hold their beliefs very close and take them very seriously, they've stood up and said "No" and people are listening. I point out i'm not religious so people won't think i'm giving a bias opinion.
Every segment from this interview that I see has that blonde bitch saying "Yah, my opinion is a little bit different" after Penn talks. Of course your opinion is different, you're a fucking idiot.
agree'd....why should islam get special treatment and remain untouched when catholics, jews, mormons, (i really don't want to incl. scientology in here but I will for the sake of example) and scientologists get poked fun at and satirized by south park. Nobody's innocent to them, and that's what makes it a great show :D
@c4w18 Why should Catholics, Jews, Mormon's, etc. be targeted? They shouldn't. If you were to relate such a thing to, say, a person's colour we'd have a name for it: Racism. I guess you could call it Religism... Fact of the matter is these people are standing up for their religion, sure they're going too far but in fairness if they didn't no one would give a fuck and would do it anyway. What's happening by constantly poking fun at every other religion is lack of respect. I'm atheist btw.
@Lazoo23 But there are countless episodes and jokes making fun of blacks, mexicans, whites, indians etc. on south park. What they do is basically treat everyone equally, they do that by treating everyone like shit, because most people are pretty dumb and deserve to be treated like shit
@Lazoo23 I guess it's something called satire. They highlight and expose the most ridiculous things about any subject, NOT just religion....it's their job to point out to people in a comical way that some of the things they take seriously or let happen are completely ridiculous. If you don't understand it, how can you make a judgement on it? And does the fact that you're atheist reinforce your point? I think it's a rather irrelevant factor in this discussion.
The point of South Park is to make fun of everyone. If they make an excuse for Muslims, because people are "afraid of being attacked," then that in itself is insensitive.
i say this was one of the best episode ever! also: poor taste that they treat mohamed that way? mohamed never did anything degrading nor ever did anything but being there. remember the scene at the super friends hideout? Jesus watching porn and buddha doing cocain while muhamed just... stood there? and the muslims were offended? everyone in the world has the right to be offended by south park EXCEPT muslims in my opinion.
@iTziLeg1Tz People still believe that..? Its pretty well understood now that the US is a terrorist state using covert military and economic terror tactics via the CIA and private contractors to create the worlds first global empire. Look up the CIA orchestrated coup of democratically elected Mohammad Mosaddegh of Iran, 1953 (Time Magazine man of the year 1951). The game of empires, same woman different dress.
All of these three are missing the point, it WASN'T Muhammed, it was Santa. That was the point of the joke, that we have this big taboo of showing Muhammed but then we find out that it isn't him thus retroactively discrediting any offence that would be taken. It was a way of showing how stupid this taboo is.
Seth said, "Is the joke so hilarious that we'd want to risk our lives?"
If you're as staunch an advocate of free speech as Matt and Trey are, then YES, you fucking coward. It's not about the humor of the joke. They're not Muslims, so the rules of Islam do not apply to them. Kudos to South Park for not backing down and forging ahead, even though Comedy Central eventually caved in and censored it. Pussies.
Penn is right when he says this whole issue says more about Islam than Matt and Trey.
I have respect for Seth McFarland but he clearly does not understand the point of why this has so much meaning to Trey and Matt. It is not about whether the joke is funny enough to compensate for the fear that will be created of losing their lives. The point is that Trey and Matt shouldn't have to stand down from ONE particular group because of a threat when their comedy has been equally shared on every religious group. If everyone made threats, there wouldn't be any comedy.
I guess Muslims have never heard of the "Streisand effect." By threatening to kill everyone who insults Islam or depicts Muhammad, they have multiplied the occurence a thousand fold.
@memorialcupof2008 … I think "Family Guy" guy will show up on any show that they'll let him into. If you'll set a camera up in your kitchen & leave the back door unlocked you might see him for breakfast…
Whole debate is fucking bullshit. Muslims have the privilege of being allowed to practice their religion in USA. What they DONT have is a right to dictate the conduct and laws of the country that's hosting them. If I went to Iran or Saudi and I didn't like people burning flags or constantly rallying against the west, would I have a voice to stop those actions? It's like if I was in someone's house and they're listening to Eminem. I'd have no fucking right to tell them to turn off their cd player
@SUPPORTOUTBREAK3 You don´t know why he is a coward? Every so often he makes fun of the peaceful religions but when push comes to show he is revealed as a cowardly bully. When he says "is the joke worth it" he really says "I will only make fun of people who will not push back". That makes him a coward and bully. That said; Family Guy sucks! It´s retarded TV. Cultural reference jokes was funny for a seasons. Now braindead teens with weed keep the show alive.
@AndyAce83 He doesn't even write the shit. He pretty much only wrote the first season. There's a difference in saying it and believing it. So what if Family Guy sucks that had nothing to do with the way he acts. There are plenty of people out there that hate South Park and like Family Guy. Everyone has a different sense of humor.
@SUPPORTOUTBREAK3 I give up. If you can't see the cowardice of this person and understand that this person is showrunner and decides lots in family guy still then fine; you deserve Family Guy. I have waisted enough time on you. Yes, everyone has a different sense of humour and some peoples are better than others. (i.e stoner jokes is dumber than jokes about how children is not as good and innocent as we like to think). end
@AndyAce83 Damn, 30 seconds to write a comment and that's wasted time? Your the one that replied to my comment remember. Seth is a cool dude. But I agree to some extent that he is a bit of a coward in this video.

MusicIzMySavior 1 month ago
@MusicIzMySavior How fucking dare you question my faith just because I don't wish to force it on others. Just because someone draws Muhammad doesn't mean an ordinary Muslim like me has to condone it or even look at it, I can always just switch the channel if I find something to be offensive. It isn't right to force others to unwillingly abide by your own rules, all that does is kill free speech and make us Muslims appear as narrow minded dickheads like you.
poppers112233 1 month ago 3

Family guy is funny but more hit or miss.

sabriyak 2 months ago
well, no wonder seth missed the point, he's show is just for the laughs.
DiogoAlmeida95 2 months ago 62
@DiogoAlmeida95 I think you clearly do not watch enough Family Guy, there is plenty of intelligent humor that points out the good, bad, and misunderstood parts of American society and culture. Also, the main characters in South Park are all American as well. I enjoy both shows.
RichH231 2 months ago
@RichH231 hahahahahahaha Family Guy was my favourite show for ages! you think I didn't watchesd it enough? dude, I said Family Guy's humor was 'retarded with a mix of some smart humor' not just retarded! And yes, I know South Park main characters are americans but you know, the main character on SP are 4th grade kids! that's pretty original, Family Guy main characters are a family, just like the simpsons, goode family, american dad, king of the hill, bob's burgers, cleveland show...
DiogoAlmeida95 2 months ago
@RichH231 I also love both shows, but in my opinion South Park is just fucking miles away ahead of Family Guy
DiogoAlmeida95 2 months ago
@DiogoAlmeida95 Agreed. S.P. contains incisive social commentary and critique, which transcends doing gags just for laughs. There's always - or at least most of the time - some kind of serious point or criticism in their satirizations. And they've satirized just about every major religion, movement, political orientation, social trend, etc. - the ones that are relevant / in the news or whatever, so M & T's attitude is: "We should not be afraid to represent / critique Islam."

@100crawma Well you do that. The frustrating though must be, that no matter how hard you want to destroy Islam, and hate it. It will just backfire. I am a converted Muslim for 4 years now. Why? DuxJerome 2 months ago
To me, talking about Islam in this way, will just make people convert, as they will look in to it themselves.Which to others is frustrating
michaelyouth 2 months ago
If you found what youve been looking for, god bless you.
But if every world citizen would "convert " to Muslim, wouldnt that be fuckin boring...
DuxJerome 2 months ago
@DuxJerome Well, depends on what you consider to be boring. I mean the Islamic religion, basically teaches us Muslims, to live a clean and righteous life. We, or at least I really don't care about what other people think. All we know is that we will defend ourselves if we are attacked, and trying to pay our rent to God, by helping other people. It can be boring at times. But I have to grow up some time, even though we might not want it. I figured 24 years old is a good age to mature.

just like seth - to think that everything HAS TO BE a punch line.

Nobody cared that in the very same episode they showed Buddha doing coke and Jesus masturbating.
dolfan1389 3 months ago
Doesn't make it right. My point is they should be allowed be pissed if people are being disrespectful of their beliefs. Fact is just because it's satire doesn't make it alright, it's still disrespectful and we all have a right to be insulted and act out on that. Just so happens muslims hold their beliefs very close and take them very seriously, they've stood up and said "No" and people are listening. I point out i'm not religious so people won't think i'm giving a bias opinion.

agree'd....why should islam get special treatment and remain untouched when catholics, jews, mormons, (i really don't want to incl. scientology in here but I will for the sake of example) and scientologists get poked fun at and satirized by south park. Nobody's innocent to them, and that's what makes it a great show :D
c4w18 3 months ago
@c4w18 Why should Catholics, Jews, Mormon's, etc. be targeted? They shouldn't. If you were to relate such a thing to, say, a person's colour we'd have a name for it: Racism. I guess you could call it Religism... Fact of the matter is these people are standing up for their religion, sure they're going too far but in fairness if they didn't no one would give a fuck and would do it anyway. What's happening by constantly poking fun at every other religion is lack of respect. I'm atheist btw.
Lazoo23 3 months ago
@Lazoo23 But there are countless episodes and jokes making fun of blacks, mexicans, whites, indians etc. on south park. What they do is basically treat everyone equally, they do that by treating everyone like shit, because most people are pretty dumb and deserve to be treated like shit
tommunist10 3 months ago
@Lazoo23 I guess it's something called satire. They highlight and expose the most ridiculous things about any subject, NOT just religion....it's their job to point out to people in a comical way that some of the things they take seriously or let happen are completely ridiculous. If you don't understand it, how can you make a judgement on it? And does the fact that you're atheist reinforce your point? I think it's a rather irrelevant factor in this discussion.
c4w18 3 months ago 3
The point of South Park is to make fun of everyone. If they make an excuse for Muslims, because people are "afraid of being attacked," then that in itself is insensitive.
Wuhhhht 3 months ago
i say this was one of the best episode ever! also: poor taste that they treat mohamed that way? mohamed never did anything degrading nor ever did anything but being there. remember the scene at the super friends hideout? Seth said, "Is the joke so hilarious that we'd want to risk our lives?"
If you're as staunch an advocate of free speech as Matt and Trey are, then YES, you fucking coward. It's not about the humor of the joke. They're not Muslims, so the rules of Islam do not apply to them. Kudos to South Park for not backing down and forging ahead, even though Comedy Central eventually caved in and censored it. Pussies.
Penn is right when he says this whole issue says more about Islam than Matt and Trey.
Batman8657 3 months ago
I have respect for Seth McFarland but he clearly does not understand the point of why this has so much meaning to Trey and Matt. It is not about whether the joke is funny enough to compensate for the fear that will be created of losing their lives. The point is that Trey and Matt shouldn't have to stand down from ONE particular group because of a threat when their comedy has been equally shared on every religious group. If everyone made threats, there wouldn't be any comedy.

What they DONT have is a right to dictate the conduct and laws of the country that's hosting them. If I went to Iran or Saudi and I didn't like people burning flags or constantly rallying against the west, would I have a voice to stop those actions?
