  • I know, apples and oranges and all that happy horseshit..but Curve were consistently SOLID...not one bad song out of the bunch. They were my soundtrack to the vast musical wasteland of the early 90's.

  • do not want to hear about fucking Shirley Manson and talentless Butch Vig....

    Going deaf,

    FrankC32

  • 1st Curve track to ever tickle my ears, way back in the early 90s'...as soon as I heard that ethereal voice, I was hooked for life...Curve sound is like a drug...hard to get enough!

  • Hi all __Dean Garcia of Curve has new music on a new label. __ Check it out at __ XDRecords . net __ youtube . com / user / XDRecordsOfficial _ ♥ ~Neferast~

  • garbage were initially nothing but a pale copy of curve

  • @goldbugnzplease, Shirley Manson was a pale, anemic sub for fucking Toni!

    Nowhere near as sexy....

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • @goldbugnz ROGER THAT!!!

    Cheers!

  • Watch a higher quality video of Curve - "Coast Is Clear" at youtube.com/watch?v=bUjIS62y1bA

  • garcia's guitar layering and halliday's ice cold vocals... we will never know a genius combo like this again. Wish i'd gotten to see them live.

  • @scarrenboy I know this comment is old but I just want to add I was able to see curve live in oh I think it was 1998 right around the time Chinese Burn came out and I must say it was a awesome live show. Not many bands can reproduce the same sound live as on there albums......Curve was one of those bands. <3 Toni and Dean R.I.P Curve, lost but never forgotten......

  • What can be said? They were incredible. Sexy sounding music , beautiful front woman... Produced with such a rich texture . Christ, they don't make 'em like this anymore huh? This band could have conquered man, uff! Even if they did not become as huge we are still blessed with a record of them anyway. Timeless absolutely genius.

  • Lush and Curve kind of appeared around the same time when everything was being subsumed under the term 'shoegaze', so the comparison seems natural. Garbage was a little later, and I always thought Shirley Manson borrowed heavily from Toni Halliday.

  • indeed.

  • FAAAAAARKIN ELL

  • Was really into Curve in the early 90's - they rocked!! You can in no way compare them to Garbage. Both have their own unique sound - I'm of the opinion Curve beat Garbage hands down, though!!

  • So true, so true, so true! Garbage did a couple of songs that were okay, but they were so not Curve...

And, don't even bring up Evanescence....they make me cringe...

  • In no way can you compare Garbage with Curve. Curves production is awesome, Garbage was just standard good pop. Almost every Curve album and EP is brimming with awesome tracks. Pure Class

  • This is music, filling you completely, how to describe, so dense, like a catchy pull..

It even reminds me of Lush (sorry. I'm sure to gain some haters hereby, I just wanted to escape the boring Curve - Garbage discussion:-)).

    Anyway excellent!

    Thanks 23Daves for posting !!

  • Musically there are some parallels, but I think Lush is really boring.

  • I think Flood produced the album "Doppelganger".Like a late model Sisters of Mercy with a chick lead singer...

  • god damn. I wish people would continue to make and like such music nowadays too. curve deserved international success, but finding them on those old indie top 20 compilations is enough for me

  • A mate of mine had a girlfriend who looked very much like Toni Halliday. She was a nurse. I love this track, and their songs.

  • Thanks for the upload, I heard Chinese Burn on The Chart Show years ago and only recently re-discovered Curve.

I just wish they would get back together and make some more astounding music.

Is it me or is the video out of sync with the sound? Check out 2:27 - 2:33 for example.

  • This takes me back to free format radio (KDHX) in St.Louis my sophomore year.

Heard it and instantly fell in love with Curve's typical 'wall of noise' in front of Toni's lyrics.

Garbage and Evanescence owe Toni for her influence, big time.

  • Garbage hell yes, but Evanescence?!?! Thats an insult to the greatness that were Curve.

  • I can't remember why I lumped Evanescence in with Curve. The two are so different.

    Won't happen again.

    /man was Curve good.

  • can't see the comparison between Curve and Evanescence... or Garbage. If anything, the opening riffs remind me a little of Lush, but less jangly guitars.

  • first saw Curve on some T.V programme with ?gaz Crowley or summat, also saw Tool and Radiohead there. Curves music was Great and Toni, well i was just a hormonal teenager!! Great band

  • classic!!!!!!!!!!

  • This has always been my favorite Curve song.

I heard it on a shitty Details magazine compilation in the early 90's. Thank you, shitty magazine.

  • lol, that's how i found them as well. 1991, i think. i bought the ep cd the next day.

  • oh man, that took me back. I never picked up the Frozen EP so haven't got this track. But what a sound and what a voice. Remember a time back in the day when students either had Curve or Nirvana on their shirts. I once put some Curve on and a younger friend commented that he didn't know I liked garbage, I replied that I didn't.

  • Ohhh man did I love this band. The basslines are the greatest. I love youtube. Thanks for posting this and helping me to remember.

  • Curvs musice was and still is amazing. Even to this day I still play doppelganger. The problem is they were about 4 years too early with their sound. The music company just didnt know how to market it.

Then garbage came along a few years later with glossy videos and a similar sound (witha softer pop edge) and stole Curves thunder.

  • @curveypolly, I was referring to plain old garbage, small "g", like rubbish, not Shirley Manson's band called Garbage, capital "G".

Still no comparison, but I wanted to clarify my comments.

I respect Shirley Manson, but she ain't no Toni Halliday! No sir.

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • @frankc32 Totally agree with you...

  • @Newwave77rise,

    word up...

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • @curveypolly, NO ONE steals Dean's and Toni's thunder.

It just rolls...as does the whisper of the Sandman...

I am sick, and I always will be...

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • @curveypolly My girlfriend is a huge Garbage fan. I have no problem with Garbage at all. I did, however, introduce her to Curve. I wish they would have been revisited more widely when record companies figured out marketing. Toni Halliday > Shirley Manson

  • @curveypolly, this says it FUCKING ALL!

@anthonydorazio, I hope you fathom this reality.

    Deal...

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • I love Curve! All that energy hitting me beneath my skin and making my body want to move along with their form. Damn, I remember seeing them play what a fucking hot evening. Then they disappeared...

  • Im suprised anyone can even compare curve to evanescanace

    curve is cool

evanesance is some christian rock put to goth imagery, its bullshit music for bullshit people

  • I'm w/you 100% on this one, xxtiaan, no question. I am sick and fucking tired of people dissing Curve, especially for lame bands like Evanescence. Evanescence is fucking garbage compared to Curve.

  • @frankc32 haha Garbage is garbage compared to Curve :)

  • @seifukusha, thanks, but I am only echoing the previously-stated opinions of curvepolly and xatiaan; they deserve the credit, not me.

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • @frankc32 Have you heard SPC ECO, Deans new band with his daughter Rose and some guy named Joey on guitar? Its really incredibile music.

  • @seifukusha, I cannot say that I have heard this music to which you refer.

    Can you provide links/further data?

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • @frankc32 spceco . com for starters google it theyre getting rather popular. on youtube. com / spceco as well!

  • Comment removed

  • @seifukusha thank-you re SPC ECO! ... Come on over and check out Dean's new label, XDRecords . net ♥ youtube . com / user / XDRecordsOfficial ♥ ~Neferast~

  • @KDSRRGurl1 I dont know what you mean young lady. Curve rock

  • @seifukusha Hehehe... I got it.. ~:D

  • @seifukusha, LOVE IT!!!

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • @frankc32 Im very happy to hear that..new single coming soon, youll dig that,

  • honey, u can get off those pills. We need to unite. i am a tortured musician too. If u ever need a band fill in, contact Wincy at Daily Strength on the web. Tortured psych clients/musicians unite for the ethical treatment of humans, i will call it PETH-people for the ethical treatment of humans, & it can stand for the sound i make when i take those corporate peso pills. Stay strong honey,& the rest of the band too...

  • were you born deaf?

  • were you born deaf AND BLIND!

  • WOW. I've only gotten reactions like that from people who felt like Toni's often accusatory lyrics were pointing a finger at them. From any objective standard Curve was and is brilliant. Nothing like them before or since.

  • Alex, you looked this up only to berate it? bloody troll...

  • I don't really "Backlash" against Garbage or Evanes or the others. BUT when people point to Garbage and Evan as doing this "new thing"...they are dead wrong, Curve was there long before, and everything they've done was birthed by Curve first. This "sound" is Curve's alone as far as it's creation.

  • Curve is a band with more aesthetic impact than any band of the 1990s. I would say that no one could copy Curve, that they are fierce originals. They are so consistent when they deliver a song and I can just sit back and release into it as it draws out tension. I never tire of Curve and I've listened to them consistently for YEARS OVER AND OVER.

  • Curve was a band almost 10 years before groups like Garbage and Evanscence and they stole all there ideas from Curve and that is why there is such a backlash from Curve fans. And after watching this video here is the proof. Curve rocked, while those other wannabes are more like Britney Spears.

  • I was a huge fan of Curve, saw them tons of times, eagerly awaited the videos on the Chart Show on a Saturday morning (if they showed them) but what you're saying simply isn't true. Curve were just too ahead of their time; plain and simple. Sure Garbage had a similar sound, but give them their dues, they produced some good songs. Granted not as good as Curve but that's life. Maybe Curve's dark indie pop wasn't as commercial enough.

    Sad but true...

  • dude tom curve was around since like '93. Garbage about '95. Get your facts right. I enjoy both bands anyways. I ain't a person to sit there and be like there fucking copy cats. Music is music. If it sounds good i'm gonna listen to it.

  • Curve is one of the very few bands I know that makes music that "fills the room".

  • The thing i like about curve is the fact that their music has a much darker vibe when compared to MLBV, Garbage or Megecine

  • Wow I didn't realise there was such an anti Garbage backlash. I think the bands are similar on a broad scale, but if ou look closer they are very different. I love both but admittedly prefer Curve for the beautiful dream like 90s electro/rock sound that they had going. Love it!

  • they sound so hybrid no one can touch them

  • music

  • holy crap!! i didnt even know they made a vid for this song, thanks!

  • i miss curve.

  • Pure beauty...

  • SHe is great! I have all her cds, "Debut", "Post", "Homogenic", ect...

  • This is great video !!

  • sorry, curve=good, nirvana=god i wish i was in mudhoney.

  • lol. funny, but true.

  • alinsand... Is only 24 years old. LOL !! Do not even speak of Curve. I saw Curve four times live in San Francisco. Are you going to summer school, too ??? Child-Moron !

  • Ah I get it now...

You live in a 3rd world country....

    Sorry. Not my fault...

    Get Help!!!

  • Apparently your head is all full of SAND.

The "latest" four letters? Did you mean "last?"

Anyway I won't sink to your pathetic level.

I AM a fan of both Garbage and Curve. Check out my favorite videos for proof. It is possible, there Sandy. Have a nice day....

  • "Apparently your head is all full of SAND."

    Ha Ha Ha!

I still don't want to be a s**t like you!

    I don't care you're a G fan or C fan. You're ZERO!

Too bad you used the same word ("pathetic") again. Also you used the same "trick" with the last four letters. Lack of imagination...

    Bye bye

  • alinsand; what an idiot...

Garbage/Curve one has nothing to do with the other. I'm so fucking sick of the Garbage/Curve controversy. There is'nt one.

Curve were a layered sonic assault with Toni Halliday's aloof and dark vocals backed by Dean Garcia's throbbing base.

Garbage on the other hand are a slick, tailored affair performed by veteran musicians fronted by Shirley Manson's venemous voice.

What does one have to do with the other?

    Conclusion: Get a Life!!

  • I think it's useless to remind you what you really are: the latest four letters from your username say it all!

You said: " I'm so fucking sick of the Garbage/Curve controversy."

To be honest I NEVER heard this comparison form a Garbage fan. But I always heard this from almost EVERY the Curve fan...

Read any comment (even from other vidz of TheC) and you'll see those "weepers". Pathetic!

So, like a great Garbage song, I can say: SHUT YOUR MOUTH!

  • up next to the stage during this concert tour, tony and i touched hands (through a chainlink fence) during her performance of this... one of those things you never forget.

  • Each person in this band is amazing. They worked so well together. It's so dissappointing that they broke up...I love the effects in this video and the way this band makes it move..

  • cant say enough about Curve ! Love em

  • I saw Curve in '92 at the Ibeam in SF play to like 75 people. It was far and away the best live music I ever had (on that side of the stage)

  • hey bitches, little teenager americans rocked out to curve. represent!

  • With you, Laurenfern. They had fans in "flyover country". Terrific song. I probably still have the interview they did with "B Side".

  • Curve is the absolutely AMAZING.

So very underrated, and sadly almost forgotten.

    It's sad they broke up.

  • This website rules!

  • They sadly split, for what seems for good, early last year. Dean is certainly still heavily involved in music...links to this can be found on the official Curve website.

  • Wonderful!!!!!!!!! yes keep Toni and Curve coming. God this shows how backwards the USA can be. Curve escaped popular attention in the early 90"s. Does this sound likeearly 90's? Heroin Dance. Make me stop.

  • yet people in the US fell for that rip-off act, Garbage. They should have been sending royalty checks to Curve.

  • Yes that is quite true, even though I do like some Garbage. Garbage took CURVES sound ideas and met them with grunge marketing and politics. Garbage will never be on par with Curve! Bring on the Curve again and reclaim your dynasty babe. Curve with Belew or Fripp, some Squarepusher, and a dose of Eno and we have the decription code to polymorphic 500 gigabyte encryption !!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree 100% percent Curve are amazing and it sucks they stopped trading. Garbage is derivative.

  • Thanks for uploading this one. I wonder if they are still in music business...
