@aGwEENapple Exactly and Prince is biracial yet he calls himself both black and biracial!! You don't have to be either or you can be both. Especially if you raised with only one side of you're family, The African American side. The term mulatto was created to distinguish biracial people from black people, and basically tell them their blood was only partially tainted by their African American side. But because their half european their only half special. It's really old school slave mentality!!
@DanteWhite who are you to say whether or not he's black?? If was raisd by the african american side of his family and he's half white. Then let him all himself black. Actually who knows he might be a third generation biracial meaning his grand parents are mixed or half wife but because of genetics he ended up inheriting more European features. Some times genes skip generations they did in my family. But he's still black his parents are black so who cares!! Mulato is derogatory term okay!!!
@DanteWhite There are plenty of black people who are as light as him and are not biracial so he's probably not just has maybe a trace of European ancestry but that doesn't mean he should identify with white people especially when he was raised in a black family with black parents!!
@Bonitaymorena i am mulato/mestizo one part of my family is white the other is part native american and part black and i dont consider the term derogatory i know it makes reference to a mule and stuff but doesnt matter if i identify myself as something i wont identify myself as white or as black or as native american i am mixed and that is how identify myself if i say im white no one will believe me if i say im black they wont believe me either people just say im latino(not a race) which i am
@DanteWhite I agree that if You want to call you're self a half donkey than go ahead but you're not doing you're self any favors. Just reinforcing those stupid Jim Crow laws that where in America, Latin American and the Caribbean in the past. It really sickens me when people will try to claim any other part of their ancestry but black just because people will say.. "ohh how can you be only black you're so light skinned?" This guy and you can tell those people to fuck off!!
@Bonitaymorena is just that i dont even know what am i supposed to call myself i like black african culture and identity i really like it but some people might think im trying to be something im not if i call myself black cus i dont look black at all my hair is wavy almost straight my facial features look like Caucasoid and my skin color is a light tan plus i was brought up in hispanic culture and family i know i have black in my blood but is that enough to call myself black???
@DanteWhite It's okay hun just call you're self black don't listen to those ignorant people or care about what they will think of you. It's you're choice and they don't have the right to tell you you're not black enough. So who are they to judge!! Of course it's enough it's like when dominican or brazilian people acknowledge their african ancestry! Why not it's their culture too. Italian or Irish americans do it all the time and they barely have any traces of the culture left in their family.
Black people come in variety of colors of the brown spectrum okay. Hell their are some black people who are fully black but like i said because they have a tiny trace of european ancestry they come out looking really light skinned. My cousins are like that, their father's father is Jamaican(Irish) &(black) and they look like my color. Except one is a little bit lighter. But my cousin's son looks fully biracial, he's really light like his grandpa, my uncle! Unpredictable Genes!
This is cool! I loved the fact growing up that there were other than white kids into wild music. I wish more people would open their minds and listen to stuff that the mainstream doesn't feed everyone.
I'm black and people are shocked when they find out that I listen to metal and punk. True I still dress in Dickies and Chuck Taylors and I still have tendencies to speak in ebonics but I love rock music, period. Quit listening to hip hop back in '03 and trying to catch up with the history of rock
MUSIC IS MUSIC doesn't matter who or what kind it is. EVERBODY will listen to ALL kinds of music ALL the time & influence each other. Its not black or white-its music. From a hispanic into "punk" music.
i get it now the interview makes alot more sense. jackal from y.d.i one of the hardcore singers and was black. be yourself and come on down and mosh. it's good to hear the black punkers stories in the scene and their history.
What are you talking about? Are you implying that if black's want to belong that they shouldn't listen to rock? Maybe because they are sick of the generalizations and the expectations of being black. Maybe rock music holds a lot more substance than mainstream music including pop and hip hop. These black rockers aren't complaining, they are sharing they're story.
Ok so... my ex and I were suppose to be in this doc....and James flaked on comin' to our city at the last momet... Still bitter about it but I'm happy with the outcome none the less. Great doc.
I've been listening to rap and rock since I was 10. I just kept it in the closet. But now that i'm a 21 y.o grown man. I don't care what others think of me listening to rock. Good music is good music.
you talk all this color shit like its 1408 instead of 2008. worry about your self and your family. are you rich...what about your family? if you say no then we have something in common. you like rock music...so do i. see another thing in common. you like good food and hot chicks? so do i. we have more in common than color. lets wake up and fight the real enemy...ignorance!
I saw this a few years back at this cultural center he presented the film himself and answered questions at the end..A lot of weird yet SEXXXY chicks showed up
isn't he kinda young to be into a punk sence? i mean didn't the punk sence pretty much die out as late as 87? with big record deals and all the good clubs are closed down. well not to beat a dead horse, just saying he is kinda young.
He IS hot. Even though I'm not super into the punk scene, I'm still going to purchase the film because -as a black person who is also often alienated from the mainstream- I support what he's doing and find it awesome. So...Yeah.
Black Rock was unaccepted by Whites and Blacks so Black people went into Music styles they were more accepted at such as Disco and Funk, thats why there's so much of a stigma on Blacks doing Rock music nowadays, even though Blacks started it.
I don't think whites stole music from any race. I just think black rock musicians can not find a big black rock audience to appreciate rock. I think since whites make up the majority of the population they will always be a bigger white audience who appreciates jazz and rock more so than blacks. I have a question for you: At rap /r'n'bconcerts why do you see a big black audience , but at rock concerts, the black audience is almost non-existent?
Punk is not about color, it's about attitude pure and simple. Punk belongs to everyone who has this attitude even if they don't agree with each other. Everyone posting here needs to think about it. For the same reason no one ever pointed a telescope at the sun...
