why do they always put menus in english and then give us games in japanese? -.- its annoying

@EXHellfire English is studied for 6 years in schools in Japan, so you'll often find English words in menus or status screens for games, you'll also see the number of hits you've made on an enemy in a Tales of game or other fighting game displayed in English.

@EXHellfire On some games they do use Japanese for the menus, others use some English, I guess it just depends on what the developers feel like using.

Things like New Game or Continue are pretty simple English, so Japanese gamers would know what they mean.

Sometimes they just use English to give the menu a little more style.

@Jeffrey6978 Sofar I am ^^ I get like a quarter or half, in general, of a sentence. I'm learning it really to be able to play Tales games, well the one's without the translations. I just got all the english Translations for Destiny remake, so I'm going to start paying it shortly. Which is why I came here XD to make sure my translations started where they should.

There are some parts where things happened a bit differently, but don't worry the overall story is still pretty much the same.

Tales of destiny was originally on the PS1, and is in english.

There is however an online translation of the dialog and several FAQs available for those who feel up to importing it.

Play-Asia, YesAsia, and eBay are good places to import it from.

I recommend the Director's Cut, it's available in 2 versions, regular, and Premium Box, which has several extra items in addition to the game.

Also, you'll need something like Swap Magic to play import games on a non-JP PS2.

I have a JP PS2, so I haven't used Swap Magic personally, but I've heard it works well, ask about it in the GameFAQs forums for Tales of Destiny (PS2), there are alot of importers there who use it.

Play-Asia, YesAsia, eBay, etc.

I recommend going for the Director's Cut rather than this version, since it's got many new features, also the Premium Box is quite nice if you have a little extra cash.

Also, make sure your PS2 is able to play NTSC-J games, if it can't, get Swap Magic or a mod-chip, I recommend Swap Magic, since it doesn't require you to mod your system.

I really want this game ported over here it sucks that all these other companies are taking chances releasing games i/e Atelier and odins sphere why cant namco with all there big money take a chance to release this and tod 2 in like some sort of package deal and see how it plays out i mean they ported tales of legedia for gods sake and that imo is the worst tals of them all i just dont get it.

Good point, I mean, Atelier Iris and Odin Sphere are both 2D. Why not Tales of Destiny 2 (PS2) and ToD (PS2), and, Tales of Rebirth.

haha good upload man, i already pass the game it was great. i already pass de PSX version so y didnt have problem with the history, and for the extra ecenes, a friend help me, is realy good what you do for those who cant play it.

But for this who dosnt understand japanece, you can allways look out for a walktrought, they help a loot, i know is not the "same" but al last you can undestand the situacion, the history and most of the conversation

It's taken me over three and a half years to get to the point I'm at now (still not totally fluent, but good enough to understand most of the dialog in the games I play), I started out with a website called YesJapan (I highly recommend it, definitely worth the monthly fee they charge), and since then have read several Learn Japanese text books, and seen a couple of Learn Japanese video series.

The remake is still pretty new, it came out November 30th, 2006, it's too early to expect an English version to be out.

Of course, Namco seems to have a problem with translating 2D Tales games anymore, so it might not get an English release...

Everyone but Lilith I believe, according to wikipedia, she was voiced by Yuka Imai (the voice of Rutee) in the original, but is now voiced by Chie Sawaguchi in the remake.
