you should also hit down into the ice a little bit behind the puck to create bend with the flex of the stick making the stick whip through impact much faster which will create tons more power and puck speed. He does do this in the video but doesn't mention it.
you actually get a harder shot if the puck is closer to your back foot.. it feels weird and you wont be able to raise the puck very high, but it definitely is a lot harder.

this guys will never got a high shoot becase they must have the puck nearlly from legs :)
