  • I have the same amp~

  • YIKES!!!!!!!

  • Haha i liked the metronome beatbox thing

  • loving the improvised metronome <3

  • i need this tab

  • The E string is the 4th string isn't it?

  • terrible tone

  • nice backing track! oh wait that's just you going : tst tst tst ch tst tst tst ch tst tst tst ch

  • Thank you soo much for postingthiss:D I can't seem to learn by looking at notes and so on T_T and I watched this and am able to learn it!:D

  • You can do whatever you want with 12 bar blues! Influences like Jimmy Page and Buddy Guy. Tapping is also good!

  • i've just started learning and looked through loads of these types of vids and i've got to say, you've created one of the good ones. not too much talking over the bass playing, simple instructions, clear image. real scratch beginners like me need more of this kind of stuff!

  • This video is just what I wanted. My friend is learning the Bass. I have shown him several times, "The 12 bar Blues", to learn as a starting point for all blues & rock. My friend never listened to the "Blues" and has not memorized this simple pattern, and keeps forgetting the changes. I am sending him this link, so he can practice on his own. Sometimes just the simplist video lessons are what is needed. Thanks for the effort.

  • i have the same amp !

  • Neat thanks

  • Awesome, im just learning the bass and the only part i cant get is that last little ditty.

can you do that slower, i got to figure it out.

  • Actually,, the 12 BB is in fact not really blues the way you're defining blues. Of course, blues CAN technically be in any time signature, but 6/8 is DEFINITELY not the most common. The 12 BB is called what it is because it's the changes of what jazz musicians define as the 12 BB. The variation is what makes the 12 BB your own, and it's why many jazz improv. students begin with it. Just playing the changes themselves isn't musicianship at all - it's the bass beginner's step to musicianship. =]

  • i have a question, why does every one do arpegios for the 12 bar blues, why dont people just walk within the chord?

  • @Ichliebegermany Us bassists have it a little different; we go by the changes of the 12 BB, and use the entire scale, not just the chord constuction to improvise. In your question though, the arpeggios he is playing in this video are simply broken down chords. So in fact, he is playing the chords, just the arpeggiated variation of them rather than just playing chord tones or scale tones. Chord tones are VERY basic, then you learn your arpeggios and scales, which each add levels of complexity.

  • LoL... it orite but i can do a better 12 bar blues one..... err why the heck did u use just one finger for a d and e .... LOL this is coming fromm a 11 yr old bass plyer

  • @Basslegendable LOL sorry i just skipped it to that partt and saw that u was using one finger but after that i watched the whole thing and realized you was using one finger so the othe ppl cud see it, lol

  • Dude great lesson, however it would be nice to see the chords put up while you were playing...great lesson.

  • MEOW????

  • wow, you're very very very good to teach

  • No,no,no.Blues is never in 6/8,you have no idea what you are talking about.I mean please...

  • that was cool dude

  • wow this is terrible

  • Comment removed

  • @472694 6/8 is the most common time signature for blues actually. However, blues can be played in many different time signatures including 5/4 and 7/8. That's one of the great things about blues and jazz. It has a very malleable structure that, even when done in a unorthodox fashion, can still be very intuitive to play along with.

  • @472694 What are you doing? You started your comment with question without a question mark. That means you just copied and pasted from wikipedia. Your attempt at correcting someone just became being a douche bag. You are actually writing to people who do not care what you think at all. I have taken it upon myself to inform you about your douche baggery. I've never seen a comment so up its own ass before.

  • Nice and slow simple to follow.... Thanks.... Jack new to bass

  • 1:33 whoa he's feeling it!

  • I LOVE YOU <3

    - nice post!

  • Nice!!! Thanks!!

  • Good job bro...thanks.

  • i love the jazz beatboxing

  • @Mooser1512 haha, it's called scatting. =] Listen to the queen Fitzgerald and you'll hear scatting at it's finest. =]

  • delivered as promised--nice

  • This is simple to follow man great job!

  • That beat boxin is very interesting

  • You made dat so simple man for a beginner myself thanks

  • hey man nice video, great help. do you reckon you could send me the tab for that nifty little riff at the end? cheers

  • I love doing 12 bar blues. There always FUN!

  • can you explain what you did in the first minute of the video? i cant figure it out ive never tried to learn anything that difficult

  • Thanks, man. Slow enough even I can pick it up. I just started playing and this gives me something to practice.

  • he restrung his bass wrong....

  • @shneetlour - you restrung your brain wrong...

  • @mrsideshow no offense man but the strings should always go straight in and out of our of the nut, in yours its going sideways into the nut from the tuning machine, causing the strings to get out of tune easier and damaging the nut

  • @mrsideshow Good comeback

  • @mrsideshow you owned him

  • @mrsideshow i couldn't tell, but if you actually put the strings on facing the wrong direction, I would strongly recommend changing them, you end up putting tremendous amounts of pressure on small parts of the nut that don't have much strength, it's not difficult for those fuckers to snap right off...just saying.

  • @shneetlour how can you tell?

  • @shneetlour - hes playing it wrong

  • mouth hi-hat

  • Thank´s, good and easy exercise. Step by step.

  • dude your drum kit is off . . . JK great vid man ^O^

  • quickk ques for everyone... i play guitar but the bass just rocks so i like to check this out... im wondering is the fretting for the minor penatonics the same on the base as it is on the guitar? it looks diff from the video to me

  • Nice... is that a mouth metronome-drum machine? XD

  • LOL! 1:33

  • @UAHawaii lol hahha omfg im roflmao

  • so funny my very very first teacher show me this when i was 9. 14 years later totally forgot what the 12 bar blues was lol

  • we have the same amp

  • nice work

  • I kinda understand but could u maybe get some tabs for me? :o thanks.

btw great playing!!... and singing :)

  • its major pentatonic scale

  • There is no D in an A major pentatonic AFAIK.... Looks like he is playing an A blues scale based on the notes he is playing.

    A C D D# E G are the notes in an A blues scale.

    A B C# E F# are the notes in an A major pentatonic

  • he's playing the "boogie" line, which is basically a mixolydian scale. You probably know what it is, but for anyone else reading, it's a major scale with a flat 7.

I prefer to hit the flat 7 instead of the octave but that's just me

  • 1:31 he sings 2 guud job lol

  • Comment removed

  • Nice job! This is a smooth learning video by a fellow who is willing to share! He would be a nice neighbor!

  • great vid man

  • great video , what bass are you playing ? sounds good thinking bout buying an acoustic bass

  • i use same amp

  • dude you got soul them cryin blues vocals are off the heeezt

  • Nice job, i like the way you made your own metronome sounds, kept the time pretty good that way, anyway thanks Im just starting blues bass and it helped alot~

  • The E string is the 4 string, not the 1st string

  • @RandomGuyBlake54 yeah but alot of people find it easier to learn how to play by counting from low to high e

  • Comment removed

  • @RandomGuyBlake54

there isnt a proper way to learn something as long as you get it down

  • Wow...

  • wow upside down is mom. are you saying im your mom? then go clean your room. but seriously when it comes to subjects of expression there isnt really a set in stone way to learn it.

  • That's on the violin. On the bass its the opposite.

  • EADG

  • That D you play (-> 2:05) is not on the second string, it's the third string :)

  • beat chiki beat chiki chiki box!

  • are you playing an ibanez artcore? ive got an ibanez agb200 Ivory.. and it looks pretty similar.

  • Cool man...thanks!

  • psch u didnt have to go n show off atthe end...but the pause button helped me figure out wat u did..i may be a noob on bass playing...but im not anoob wen it comes to technology...ha ha

  • That part at the end was nothing. It was merely a minor pentatonic scale and he ended it on an octave A

  • Good job man!

  • Even though blues is easy, it sounds so cool!

  • drum machin ^^

  • Thanks for the lesson. I thought the "beat boxing" sounded great, and loved the little lick at the end. Too bad so many people don't know how to keep their mouths shut when they have nothing nice to say. Keep up the ggod work!

  • He probably thought he was good with that little run at the end. Haha

  • lol i dk why some of these people are hatin on ya man! it sounded great, and for beginners its a great lesson, no lie. its titled 12 bar blues on bass, not how to slap your bass like a bitch, so dunno why "advanced" players are complaining about it. guys, you didnt HAVE to watch it if you already knew it! chill out and just appreciate that some one is here trying to teach others and keep the art of bass playing alive! if you were true bassists then you would understand this already!

  • I've been playing bass for 6 years, and I think this is a great video for beginners :). Slap bass is very fun to play, but it's best to learn things like this before going and doing complicated techniques. Good video.

  • Mamma mia! E string isn´t the first, but the fourth string on bass. The numbers are:

    G - I

    D - II

    A - III

    E - IV

  • Nice acoustic bass, I've got one myself. They're great to just grab and play

  • Thanks man, my friend's been riding my ass to learn that. I liked how you spiced it up to.

  • is he play 1-3-5-6 ?

i think basic 12 bar blues use the pattern 1-3-5-7b instead of 1-3-5-6 , doesn't it?

  • I believe so, yes.

  • Cheers dude!!!

  • It's in 12/8. It's real basic. It's fine for what it is. Who can count?

  • This guy fancies himself as a teacher when in fact he badly needs one. This guy is a moron.

  • you're the fucking moron---he posted this so I could learn bass....simple simple notes for me...fuck you for being a fucktard and jealous that he can play & "play" better than you. He's touring the US w/ his band right now...you're still in your mom's basement jacking off to your own shitty bass line

  • Comment removed

  • sounds like 4/4 to me...

  • hey man screw bass you should go into beat boxing

  • what the hell damnit a piece of holy crap of bass to you have ? .. it sounds horrible .. and you have bad strings ... omg ... and the real 12-bar-BASS-blues is just the simple 3-2-0-2-3-2-0-2-3 ... omg jesus ... nap ...

to all bass-jammers : DONT LISTEN TO THIS CRAP !

  • you're just a jealous fuck

  • 3-2-0-2-3-2-0-2-3? what the fuck are you talking about? The 12 Bar Blues is a chord progression...

  • hmm what kind of bass is that?

    nice walking btw

  • not bad bud

  • muito bom man se e d+

  • What the hell?

    I didn't learn anything!

  • Excellent

  • thanks for the vid... really helpfull.. awesome lollapolooza shirt too...

  • lol habits

  • Beatboxing bass player! Now I can finally improv on something here on youtube!

  • lmao, what's with that "tss tss tss chi tss tss tss noise?

  • cool. but you fail at playing bass and making up a drum line at the same time lol. tss tss tss chi tss tss tss chi.

  • lmao.

  • I think he's making a vocal metronome not a drum line :) but it's kinda cool and strange in the same way

  • thanks for posting its nice to see someone trying to share or teach to those who are just starting......fuck off haters

  • you are stupid!!!!!

  • And you are more

  • lawlaawllawl i agree

  • Good video man !!!

Im a guitar player and ive been playing along with this vid for a while now.

Its good to see people playing the basics and not trying to impress everone on youtube whenever they play.

  • but seeming you are obviously working for the spelling police maybe you should make sure your own house is in order before making your comments about

Must leave you and your dictionary to go put the spelling world to rights. Knob head I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man now fuck off and stop posting me you cyber stalker (oooh another red line under cyber and oooh) get your osd sorted out you twat

  • Gotta love the internet kids thinking they can correct other people's grammar when they themselves have terrible grammar themselves.

Good video btw, I'm learning bass and this something easy to play. :]

  • '...when they THEMSELVES have terrible grammar THEMSELVES.'

All I can say is Lol

    Nice video dude :)

    btw: nice voice^^

  • lol he runs out of breath and the music slows down...goof job

  • exelent drum efect!! lol

  • Dude I have that same amp! lol

  • Nice...I liked the way you used your mouth for the metronome to get the beat. Great video. I just got my first bass and this helped a lot.

  • dude you suck

  • sounds good :)

Do you mind if i use exactly the same as you just played for my own music? i know a lot of people are thinking `just use it!` but i like to ask :)

  • muy chucha

  • get a matronome your vocal sounds are so annoying

  • wtf is a matronome? I believe you meant a metronome. But yes, he desperately needs to obtain one, or use one if he already does have one.

  • A mAtranome? Really? The "E" and "A" keyes are not even close to each other. And if you don't know how to spell something, then the red zig-zag line is a dead give away...

  • its keys not keyes Mr. pedantic the red line is a dead give away you twat

  • Yes he is really irritating like you fuck off dickhead

  • Well If your typing k-e-y-s its pretty easy to accidentally put an extra E considering its RIGHT NEXT TO THE S! Hows about you think before you post?

  • that didnt really need explination...

  • Nice choice of amp man i also got one 25 watt i believe not really sure. thats my practice amp. My other amp is a 350 watt hartke man i love it so much i messed around with the eq and it has the most amazing tone! great lesson too man great job really helped me.

  • I really dont understant why people write stupid coments. Its all most as if they are trying to make themselfs feel better. I learnt heaps from this vid. Thanks man!

  • nice!

  • Nice, Humming really drives it home.

  • that was clean my freind. great job =)

  • lancelot2207 has much sadness in his heart. I truly hope that one day he can find whatever it is he is searching for...

  • that coment was directed to lancelot2207 by the way :P

  • I have been playing bass for 23 years and I really like your approach to teaching. Lancelot2207 probably only plays the skin flute well anyway. Good stuff - keep it up.
