Usually on account of the distance away from seismograph recording equipment . Fyi .

I would think that the "uptick" in activity is caused, at least partially, by Post Glacial Rebound Effect. The fallout accelerated ice cap and glacier melting. There is no reliable info on the last 50 years of Earthquakes to compare to earthquakes in the present because the art of locating earthquakes became truly sufficient about 20 years ago and has been perfected in the last decade. No other decade that the 2000's is as specific.
But the fact is 2011 so far looks like it will be the most seismically active year in our history.

I'm impressed Dutch that you knew about the quake we had in Cumbria in England,considering 99% of the English people don't have a clue about it.I don't know if you know but Cumbria is the least populated area of England so it didn't make many news channels.The thing is the biggest & the oldest nuclear plant in the UK is there & i know that its not built to withstand any seismic activity.

@ged8802 there were 2 actually mate one around Keswick,Cumbria then just 1 week later one in Ripon,N.Yorks the one in Ripon was felt right the way up to the southside of S/land there was a women on the N/East news from there talking about her sons computer nearly falling of its desk.Thats where the epicentres were though if you google it you'll get all the info.

I would think that the "uptick" in activity is caused, at least partially, by Post Glacial Rebound Effect. The fallout accelerated ice cap and glacier melting. This redistribution of massive amounts of water is causing the "thin skin" of the Earth to flex in order to "shoulder" the burden now flowing to areas where it was not previously.

I think you forcast on United state is wrong , the New madrid isn't a single fault , it's connected to the St-Lawrence rift and the Logan fault line , and the earthquake you saw (and the one that we don't saw) are from the rift
There sign of harmonic activity on the rift , so magma is buiding up under
A rift need magma to expand , if it expand , we will have an earthquake . Then , the New madrid will go off , the energy will be transmited to her .

@disasterlover 1st, I have little knowledge. You seem very knowledgeable~ if anyone has made a connection to the fault in our Gulf of Mexico & the New Madrid fault, I totally missed it. I am asking for confirmation or denial as to this: When we experienced the BP Oil 'Spill' (near New Orleans) the oil gushed from a fault~that fault goes due North to Yellowstone~~the New Madrid goes South near New Orleans~ so if one goes, they both go. There is no reliable info on the last 50 years of Earthquakes to compare to earthquakes in the present because the art of locating earthquakes became truly sufficient about 20 years ago and has been perfected in the last decade. No other decade that the 2000's is as specific.
But the fact is 2011 so far looks like it will be the most seismically active year in our history.

Saturn will align with Earth in next month. and obv. elites carrying out bigger plot than we can comprehend, at times :/ so look closely to political world actions and maybe we will get a clue, when and where it could possible. POSSIBLY, strike.

Anyone who lives around a fault line should be prepared for earthquakes, regardless of sensationalist videos on YouTube.
Some subscribers to this channel go further than being personally prepared for the insecurity. They engage in religious propagandas, saying something like "The end is nigh! Pray to Jesus! Repent!" This kind of messages don't contribute to the actual preparedness for physical disasters.

Some additional information according to thebarcaroler : solar activity has come from zones 5/29/11 that correspond to the New Madrid area, Italy/Greece/Turkey, the Philippines and I believe Argentina was the 4th. Also on 6/2 is the planetary alignment with Saturn as well.

Also, when I was little I remember 5.5-6.0 was a HUGE deal. Now society thinks it's nothing. Society doesn't talk much about earthquakes unless they are 7.0+.
